The Transplant Services Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is Texas' longest continually accredited tissue and eye bank. In 2005, they distributed over 7,000 grafts including bones, corneas, sclera, and skin. When a 13-year-old girl named Danni died from a car accident, her family donated her organs and tissues, allowing two people to receive corneas and many more to receive bone grafts. The Center provides tissues and organs including hearts, lungs, skin, bones, corneas, and more to improve and save lives across the United States and worldwide.

4. What is Donation? When 13-year-old Danni was killed in a motor vehicle accident, her family chose donation. A 10-year-old boy and a 28-year-old woman received the gift of sight thanks to the generosity of Danni’s gift. Many more lives were touched through the family’s donation of bone. In addition, Danni was an organ donor.

Kristen was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a fast growing bone cancer. The cancerous section of bone was removed & a bone graft was used to save her arm.

16. Eye Donation Kimberly, 28 and Bailey, 2 are both recipients of cornea transplants. Kimberly has received one transplant from a 13 year old. Bailey has received two transplants – one donor was a 6-year-old while the other came from a 48-year-old.
