- At Agel we believe that we must promote total wellness and total body health. It is impossible to ignore the skin as it is the largest organism on the body that provide important supportive functions to the entire body. The way you look is directly reflected by what you put in to your body, but it can be even more enhanced by using the best skin care possible. To provide total wellness solutions and ignore skin care would have been irresponsible. Your skin is a dynamic, ever growing organ that is vital. It keeps the good things in and the bad things out. It helps control body heat. When the inner body temperature gets above 98.6 F, we begin to sweat and as the sweat evaporates, it pulls heat from the skin and the blood, which cools down the body. Almost everything the body wants to get rid of is dumped into the skin in one form or another. It alters them chemically to a less toxic form and then either excretes them in sweat, sloughs them off in devitalized cells, or returns them to the body to be excreted by the kidney. Perhaps the most important function of the skin is to provide the protective barrier on the outer surface of the body. This barrier, the stratum corneum, is composed of proteins and lipids, which are fatty or waxy type substances. This barrier controls the rate of water loss from inside the body and prevents water from getting into the skin from outside. The cells and components of the stratum corneum are made up of cells that are produced in the lower layers of the epidermis. Formation of these components requires good nutrition and protection from harmful environmental stress. ADDITIONAL: The skin consists of three layers. The outer layer, the epidermis, keeps vital fluids within the body and keeps bacteria out. Immediately below The epidermis is the dermis, the skin layer rich in blood vessels, nerves, connective tissue, oil glands and hair follicles. Below the dermis lie the subcutaneous or fatty layer of skin, which keeps you insulated from bone-chilling gusts.
- Antioxidants are substances that are capable of counteracting the damaging, but normal, effects of the physiological process of oxidation in tissue. Antioxidants are nutrients (vitamins and minerals) as well as enzymes (proteins in your body that assist in chemical reactions). They are believed to play a role in preventing the development of such chronic diseases as cancer, heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, and cataracts. Oxidative stress occurs when the production of harmful molecules called free radicals is beyond the protective capability of the antioxidant defenses. Free radicals are chemically active atoms or molecular fragments that have a charge due to an excess or deficient number of electrons. Examples of free radicals are the superoxide anion, hydroxyl radical, transition metals such as iron and copper, nitric acid, and ozone. Free radicals containing oxygen, known as reactive oxygen species (ROS), are the most biologically significant free radicals. ROS include the radicals superoxide and hydroxyl radical, plus derivatives of oxygen that do not contain unpaired electrons, such as hydrogen peroxide, singlet oxygen, and hypochlorous acid. Because they have one or more unpaired electrons, free radicals are highly unstable. They scavenge your body to grab or donate electrons, thereby damaging cells, proteins, and DNA (genetic material). The same oxidative process also causes oils to become rancid, peeled apples to turn brown, and iron to rust. It is impossible for us to avoid damage by free radicals. Free radicals arise from sources both inside (endogenous) and outside (exogenous) our bodies. Oxidants that develop from processes within our bodies form as a result of normal aerobic respiration, metabolism, and inflammation. Exogenous free radicals form from environmental factors such as pollution, sunlight, strenuous exercise, X-rays, smoking and alcohol. Our antioxidant systems are not perfect, so as we age, cell parts damaged by oxidation accumulate. In reference to skin protection it has been proven that by applying antioxidants directly to the skin you can protect and slow down the aging process. The top layer of your skin is the Epidermis. But, it is the Dermis, the second layer of skin that must be taken care of in order for individuals to have long term healthy skin. t is .3 mm on the eyelid and 3.0 mm on the back. The dermis is composed of three types of tissue that are present throughout - not in layers. The types of tissue are: * collagen * elastic tissue * reticular fibers

- Petroleum is used in more products than you can imagine. It is a barrier to moisture, but used because of it’s ability to make the skin feel smooth and soft for a time. It will not, however, penetrate the skin and allow a moisturizer to work. Sodium lauryl sulfate is a cheap detergent ommonly used in cosmetic cleansers, hair shampoos, bath and shower gels, bubble baths, etc. - It is probably the most dangerous ingredient used in skin and hair-care products. In the cleaning industry SLS is used in garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers, car-wash soaps, etc. It is very corrosive and readily attacks greasy surfaces. Propylene glycol is used to make antifreeze and de-icing solutions for cars, airplanes, and boats. It is also used in hydraulic brake fluids and inks used in stamp pads, ballpoint pens, and print shops.
- There are seven products in the system. These seven products were created as a recipe of sorts. Each of them created as a step toward the next with properties in each product designed to work with the properties of the other products in the line. When you are cooking and you leave out an important ingredient, does it affect the outcome? It’s the same with skin care. When you skip a step or simply decide that you don’t need do do a part of the routine, you sabotage your success and the system won’t work as well for you as it might if you would just take the time. There are really three categories to consider when you look at building a daily skin care regimen: 1. Cleanse, 2. Treat, 3. Moisturize. Cleanse: Daily Gel Cleanser, Misting Gel, Gel Scrub Treat: Gel Serum, Eye Gel Moisturize: Daily Gel Moisturizer, Nourishing Night Gel
