In 1620, a group of Puritans fled religious persecution in England and traveled to North America on the Mayflower. When they arrived, the Native Americans helped the Puritans by teaching them how to plant crops and hunt for food. In 1621, to show their gratitude, the Puritans held a feast to celebrate the fall harvest with the Native Americans, eating foods like turkey, corn, and pumpkin pie - this was one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations.
