This document lists and defines various names and titles for God found in the Old and New Testaments. It describes God by names that reveal his attributes as the eternal, self-existent one; the Almighty; the Lord and master; the provider; the healer; the banner; the one who sanctifies; our righteousness; our shepherd; peace; presence; the most high; the Lord of hosts; the one who strikes or judges; the first and last; the everlasting one; the rock; the strong one who sees; the branch; the comforter; the door; and the savior.
5. Jehovah-Jireh
The LORD will provide
“And Abraham called the name of
that place Jehovah-Jireh: as it is
said to this day, in the mount of the
Lord it shall be seen.” (Gen. 22:14)
7. Jehovah-Nissi
The LORD our banner
The battle is the Lord’s. We have no hope
for victory without His power. The ulti-
mate portrayal of Jehovah-Nissi is Christ
paying the wages for our sins on a cross.

8. Jehovah M’Kaddesh
The LORD Which Sanctify You
“Sanctify yourselves, therefore, and be
ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. And
ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I
am the LORD which sanctify you.”
(Lev. 20:7-8)
9. Jehovah Tsidkenu
The LORD Our Righteousness
“In his days Judah shall be saved, and
Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his
name whereby he shall be called, THE
LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
(Jer. 23:6)
10. Jehovah Rohi
The LORD My Shepherd
Rohi means to “tend a flock,” which
includes meeting the needs of the
individual sheep.
11. Jehovah-Shalom
The LORD Is Peace
“And the Lord said unto him, Peace be
unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
Then Gideon built an altar there unto the
Lord, and called it Jehovah-shalom.”

12. Jehovah-Shammah
The LORD Is There
“…And the name of the city from that day
shall be, The LORD is there.”
-- Ezekiel 48:35b
13. El-Elyon
God, The Most High
“And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I
have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the
most high God, the possessor of heaven
and earth.” – Genesis 14:22
14. Jehovah-Sabaoth
The Lord of Hosts
This name has military overtones,
referring to God as our Commander. Yet,
the name goes far beyond military
implications to speak of God as the
Creator and Head of all the hosts of
heaven and earth.
16. Alpha and Omega
First and the Last
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning
and the ending, saith the Lord, which is,
and which was, and which is to come,
the Almighty.” -- Revelation 1:8
17. El-Olam
The Everlasting God
(Applies to both time and strength)
“Hast thou not known? hast thou not
heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord,
the Creator of the ends of the earth,
fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no
searching of his understanding.”

18. Sur and Petra
The Rock
God conveying in the most simple way
His shelter and protection, power, and
perpetual nature. Both Sur (OT) and
Petra (NT) speak of God’s stability,
power and ability to meet every need.
19. El-Roi
The Strong One Who Sees
“And she called the name of the Lord
that spake unto her, Thou God seest me:
for she said, Have I also here looked
after him that seeth me? Wherefore the
well was called Beer-lahai-roi…”

20. Semah
The Branch
The name Semah is a Messianic title
which speaks of Christ as the spout,
growth or branch which shoots from God
the Father, Who is also the Tree. It tells
us that Christ is of the Father, and in the
Father. (That Christ is God.)
21. Paraclete
Comforter
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy
Ghost, whom the Father will send in my
name, he shall teach you all things, and
bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.”

Door
“I am the door: by me if any man enter in,
he shall be saved, and shall go in and
out, and find pasture.” -- John 10:9
