History of Plan: Baltimore Delegation of 12 (young adults and professional ministers) attended 1 st National Encuentro of Hispanic Young Adult Ministry at Univ. of Notre Dame Bishops wanted to hear about the contributions and needs of Hispanic young adults Upon returning from Encuentro, Division of Youth and Young Adult Ministry started to dream about a Strategic Plan for Hispanic Young Adult Ministry to intentionally welcome young adults into parish life
“ Signs of the times,” or statistics of changing demographics in Maryland over the last eight years, supports the need for intentional outreach for Hispanic young adults, thus the creation of this Plan.
The momentum of the Encuentro in Notre Dame inspired the Division of Youth and Young Adult Ministry to set forth on developing a Strategic Plan for Hispanic Young Adult Minisitry in the Archdiocese.
Bishop Mitch Rozanski approved and met with committee members which consisted of parish young adult volunteer leaders, clergy, religious, and ecclesial lay ministers.
The Strategic Plan is about welcoming a community that might already be at the parish. The Plan is about calling forth leadership in the community.
The Planning Committee faced the challenge of working bilingually and bi-culturally The Plan took two years to reach completion as it was plan created by the people and not for them. Young adult committee members wanted to be part of every part of the creation process. The Plan was created
Plan is for: Archdiocesan Offices Parishes leaders pastors & PLDs, professionals & volunteers Framework adaptable to all young adult ministry
The four goals of the Plan are from “Mission and Vision”, the Archdiocesan pastoral plan for Hispanic Ministry. Ministry of Collaboration & Communion- -Parish staff does not plan for young adults. All stakeholders have been given this presentation of the Strategic Plan. Bishop Rozanski and Bishop Madden requested that Plan be presented and distributed in all regional clergy/pastoral meetings.
The Plan is not an activity, instead it calls on parish leadership to welcome and tap a community that might already be there and to call forth leadership.
Does not have to be youth or young adult ministers. Liaisons are those willing to help the young adult community help implement the goals and objectives of the Plan.
Through the Archdiocesan Hispanic Young Adult Council, parish leaders will be given tools to help implement the Plan at the parish.
