Film Campaign research 
What is in a film’s campaign?
Trailer 
• The major element in the advertising of a film 
is the trailer. The trailer will show parts of the 
film which may attract an audience to go and 
see it. It will edit it together in an exciting way 
that is appealing to the audience, and also 
occasionally film scenes especially for the 
trailer.
Website 
• The website will provide essential information about the film, 
such as the date it is first showing, the actors and cast that 
were involved, and some critical responses towards it 
(although likely only positive ones). The website is often 
promoted at the end of trailers.
Television appearences 
• Many actors will appear on television chat 
shows to promote the film, for example 
Graham Norton or Jonathan Ross, or David 
Letterman in America. This will make the 
audience feel they know the actors better and 
will trust them, and by extension their film, 
more.
Posters and Billboards 
• These are images that promote the film, including useful information like the date, 
the actors and director. Although most will show the film title, some are so iconic 
they only need the symbol for the audience to know instantly what the film is. 
These posters can be put on billboards.
Magazine Articles 
• Magazines may decide to run articles about films, often used by those films to 
promote themselves. Reviews can also be used to promote films, although usually 
only the positive ones will be used on posters and in trailers.
