The Zlín region of the Czech Republic is located along the border with Slovakia. It has a population of around 600,000 people and an unemployment rate of 7.6%. The economy is based on agriculture such as wheat, barley, sugar beets and fruits as well as industry like textiles, leather, rubber and engineering. Tourism is also important as the region contains two protected landscape areas that make up 30% of the territory including the Bílé Karpaty biosphere reserve. There are also many historical castles and monuments across the region.
