1. The efficacy of every nutrient our body absorbs is measured in terms of its bio-availability. This
means, out of a given amount of any nutrient, how much of the nutrient is actually available to
the bloodstream and hence the cells within it. There are many factors that influence bio-

begins in the small intestine and relies on proteins called sodium-dependent vitamin C co-
transporters (SVCTs). A lack of these proteins equates to a lack of vitamin C absorption and
transport within the body.
