For my promotion package for the release of an album, I will be creating a music promo
video.The song I am making a music video to is ‘New Rules’ by Dua Lipa.
Dua Lipa sings about trying to move on from an ex. In an interview with the BBC she
explained, "It's about keeping your distance from someone who's bad for you. I'm setting
some rules down so [that I] won't go back to that person."
Verse 1
The first verse of my music video will follow the narrative of this verse of the song, which explains how this break-up has
affected her and that it made her feel upset and down at first, so the first scene will follow the character in her bedroom, on
her phone where she appears very upset and distressed. Some scenes and shots I plan to include are;
 Shots of the character looking into her bedroom mirror in a very sorrowful way.
 The character on her phone- Possibly texting her ex or looking for him on social media.
 A shot of the character on her laptop/on a notepad- Starting to write the rules.
The purpose of these shots within this scene in the first verse, is to get the point across to other people in
similar situations that at first it is acceptable to feel upset and down over a break-up but eventually you
have to start to move on.This is used to give young, teenage girls an example and inspiration who are
going through a similar situation.
Chorus
The chorus in this song, goes on to list all off the rules that the character has come up with, which gives more of a positive
feel to narrative, so some of the shots I plan to include are;
 The character getting ready to go out- Doing her makeup/hair
 The character having with her friends in various scenes
 Scenes of performance of the artist/character
This scene will be a much more upbeat and happy scene compared to the first, therefore this scene will include a
lot more bright and vibrant colours, to convey the happy message which this scene is trying to put across.
Bridge
The bridge part of the song will include purely close-up lip sync, as this is a short but intimate part of the song, where the
artist is trying to convey an important message to her audience.This song then quickly goes back to the chorus, which the
scene will begin to be a much more upbeat and happy scene again.
Ending
The ending of the song finishes with the chorus again which will portray the character out with her friends having a
good time but at the very ending of the song, the chorus starts to change to end the song, which the scene will use a
depth of field of the character in a room full of people having fun , which she will then use lip sync to sing the final
lyrics of the song to the audience.
