1. Online based survey rather than
I have decided to paper based
do a random
sample.
Non gender specific
(both male and
female)
Due to the fact that it is such a small
Sample of 10 sample I cannot generalise my
people results for everyone, however I can
get an insight into what the
audience wants
2. Before asking my target
audience questions regarding
the creation of my music
magazine I needed to
establish how popular
magazines are in the industry
and therefore how often I
should distribute my
magazine, from my findings I
think that it would be best to
do my Music magazine
monthly due to the fact that
the majority of people asked
said that they only read
magazines sometimes.
On the other hand 20% of the people asked anonymously do often read magazines however due to the fact that
this is the minority of my sample rather than the majority it would be too risky to distribute my magazine
weekly.
3. I also wanted to find more
about my target audiences
music preferences so that I
could see whether a pop
magazine would be easily
incorporated, as you can
see from the results there
is a variety of different
genres, the three most
listen to are rock, indie and
pop, this positively affects
my results as pop
originated from rock
therefore resulting in all
genres being able to be
incorporated within my
magazine.
Although I could make a magazine with a variation of genres I think that I am going to stick to the stereotypical
pop music magazines, with artists that attract the female gaze, as I think that this would be a better
representation of ‘’Pop’’ music.
4. Here I have looked into who my
target audience like most as a
artist/band, I can then look into
the styles of each and see
whether they can fit into my pop
magazine. For example in
particular Ed Sheeran has a very
laid back costume and is included
within the Pop genre to an
extent. So I can incorporate this
into my photos for my magazine
in order to make them look more
professional and more engaging
to the audience. Similarly one
direction is a major band involved
within the female gaze so I can
therefore have a look into the
styles of photographs in which
they take and use on previous
magazines and advertisements.
5. I then asked a question regarding my magazine, I wanted to know whether they prefer magazines to be very jam
packed full of information or simplistic. 80% of the sample said that they would prefer the magazine very
simplistic therefore I will need to use this in order to design my magazine and meet the audiences wants. I think
that this is a vital question as it determines the house style of what certain people enjoy reading, in this case it is
clear that the defiantly like the less exaggerated magazines such as Q.
6. I then decided to ask
a question regarding
the content of the
magazine so that I
could establish which
parts of other
magazines should be
incorporated within
my music magazine.
The top two
responses were
interviews and artist
profiles closely
followed by top
singles of the week.
The least picked
option was get the
look articles as these
are based around
fashion magazines.
I think that for my double page spread I should do an interview regarding a new video or single that my artist is
releasing so that there is a combination of interviews artist profiles and new singles.
7. The target audience decided that a band would be better for the main artist within my magazine, however 40%
also thought that a solo artist should be included, in order to resolve this problem I have decided to use some
solo artists within the contents element of my magazine as I think that this would therefore create a balance
between the two, meeting everyone’s wants.
8. I then asked a
question
regarding the
Mis En Scene
of my artist,
for the main
image for my
magazine the
sample
decided that it
would be best
if I had my
artist dressed
casually in
jeans and a
jump or t-shirt.
I am also going to incorporate the Smart causal Mis en scene as I think that this may possibly be used for my
double page spread image of my magazine. This therefore allows me to show different costumes for my artist
therefore giving me different scene scenarios.
9. I then asked
a question
regarding the
different
props that
could be
used within
my magazine
photos, and
if I do
decided to
use props
the most
popular
selection was
headphones.
Due to the fact that my band is not going to have images taken of them performing I think that microphones
are unlikely to be needed, however if I use my idea of a chilled out image for the contents page then I may use
headphones in order to show how they are relaxing after shooting a video.
10. I then needed to establish a price for my magazine, establishing what the target audience would be willing to pay.
The most that they would possibly pay is £3.00 therefore I need to ensure that my magazine is affordable for the
target audience and not too pricey.
11. I then asked a
question regarding
the colour scheme
of my magazine,
and the most
popular colours
where the neon
colours such as pink
and yellow, another
colour that was
popular was white,
therefore I may
choose to use this
as my background
for my front cover,
other colours that
were also very
popular were
purple and blue
therefore I may also
be able to
incorporate these
within my
magazine.
