3. What is the STAR Chart? The Texas Education Agency Educational Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC) developed the Texas School Technology and Readiness (STaR) Chart, an online resource tool for self-assessment of your campus’ and district’s efforts to effectively integrate technology across the curriculum. http://starchart.esc12.net/docs/TxCSC.pdf

4. What are the areas of competency? The Texas Teacher STaR Charts is an assessment tool developed around the four key areas of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology: Teaching and Learning Educator Preparation and Development Leadership Administration and Instructional Support Infrastructure for Technology

5. Purpose of star chart The Teacher STaR Chart is designed to help teachers, campuses, and districts determine their progress toward meeting the goals of the Long-Range Plan for Technology, as well as meeting the goals of the district.

6. Why is the texas star chart important to me? The Texas Campus STaR Chart is a tool designed for use in technology planning, budgeting for resources, and evaluation of progress in local technology projects. All applications for state funded technology grants require a completed campus or district Texas STaR Chart profile to be filed with the application as an indicator of current status and progress and as a formative and/or summative evaluation tool. The online assessment may be used as a basis for dialogue with staff, administrators, technology directors, school board members and community leaders to plan for future growth. Statewide reports are used to report on progress toward fulfilling the requirements in No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D that all teachers should be technology literate and integrate technology across the curriculum. The legislation also requires that all students should be technology literate by the time they leave the eighth grade.

7. How does the district use this information? The Texas Public STaR Chart is an online tool to allow all stakeholders to view the technology readiness of all campuses across the state. The search features enable a variety of reports such as all campuses that are Early or Target Tech in one or more focus areas. Reports may be organized by district, ESC region, legislative district, or campus type. Data is currently available from the Texas Campus STaR Charts completed in 2004, 2005 and 2006. 9. Who needs to complete the texas star chart? WE DO!! The Texas Teacher STaR Chart can assist in the measurement of the impact of state and local efforts to improve student learning through the use of technology as specified in No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D. It can also identify needs for on-going professional development and raise awareness of research-based instructional goals. Technology Instruction is now mandated by: NCLB – all students must be technology literate by the end of 8th grade NCLB – all teachers must be technology literate NCLB – technology must be fully integrated across all curriculum areas by Dec 31, 2005 Texas SBOE has mandated that all enrichment TEKS will be taught (K-8 Technology TEKS are enrichment TEKS) Texas TEKS for secondary courses all have technology expectations SBEC now requires technology competencies of all beginning teachers Technology applications textbooks are available for adoption
