2. Question1 ‘What gender are you?’ In total, I asked 19 of my audience to complete my questionnaire. The first question I asked my respondents was what was their gender? My results show me that 7 of my respondents were male and the remaining 12 respondents were female. By having a mixture of both male and female respondents It allows me to make some possible links between questions which would able me to give me more information about what the audience think of music videos.
3. Question 2 ‘’How old are you?’ The second question I asked my respondents was how old they were. Out of my 19 respondents,10 of them were aged between 10 and 20, 9 of these respondents were female and the remaining respondent was male. By looking at my results I am able to see that the majority of my respondents were aged between 10 and 20. However there was also respondents in each other age category which demonstrates I have a variety of different results.
4. Question 3 ‘How often do you watch music videos?’ From looking at my results I am able to see that the majority of my respondents watch music videos as there was only 4 respondents who said that they didn’t watch music videos at all. As the majority of respondents said that they watched music videos this demonstrates to me that music videos are a big part of people’s lives and more people watch music videos than we realise. As the 4 respondents that said that they watch music videos were male, this suggests that there are more women that are interested and watch music videos than men.
5. Question 4 The remaining 3 respondents chose more than one source of watching music videos, therefore they are not included in this graph. Respondent 1 - Internet Respondent 2 – Television, Internet & iPod Respondent 3 – Television, Internet & Mobile phone. ‘What do you watch music videos on?’ Out of my 19 respondents, the majority of them answered that they watch music videos via television through music channels, this may be because they are easy and accessible to watch. The 3 respondents that answered other were 3 of the respondents who stated in an earlier question that they didn’t watch music videos. There was 4 respondents that said they watched music videos via the internet, all of these respondents were in the younger age categories which could suggest that they have more knowledge of technology as they also stated that they watched music videos on either an iPod or mobile phone.
6. Question 5 Continued on following slide… ‘If you watch music channels, which channel do you prefer watching?’
7. By looking at my results I am able to see that 4Music is the most popular music channel to watch music videos on as 7 of my respondents chose 4Music. The other category that was available to chose was also selected by 7 respondents, each of the respondents that selected ‘other’ provided me with an explanation, 4 of the respondents said that they don’t watch music videos therefore they don’t have a preferred channel, 2 respondents said that they watched the music channel ‘Kerrang’ and the remaining respondent said that they watched the music channels ‘Kiss and Magic’.
8. Question 6 Continued on following slide… ‘What gene of music are you interested in?’
9. From looking at this set of results I am able to see that the most common genres that people listen to are; Pop and Indie. By looking at this information, it suggests to me that for my music video to be popular and successful I need to chose a song in either of these genres as they are the most popular that people listen to. My results also show me that Metal and Rap are the two least favourite music genres, so I should not chose a song that isn’t popular or well liked as people will not be interested in listening to it.
10. Question 7 ‘What is your own personal favourite music video?’ From looking at my results I am able to make some links between music videos. Bruno Mars is a very popular music artist as there was 3 respondents who chose Bruno Mar’s videos as their favourite music videos, the people that chose his videos were in the youngest age category, this suggests that the younger respondents favourite music videos are those that have been recently released. One male in the age category ‘51-60’ stated that his favourite music video was ‘Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody’ this also relates to the statement i earlier provided that the younger the person, the more recent their favourite music video is as Queen was released along time ago.
11. Question 8 ‘What makes a good music video?’ Both Electric Six’s ‘Gay Bar’ video and The Blood Hound Gangs ‘Bad Touch’ have funny music videos. I asked this question as I thought it would help me get a good idea of what people like to be included in music videos. By looking at my results I am able to see that the majority (10 respondents) of respondents said that including humour in a music video makes the video good. This information I shall take on board as it will give me ideas for my music video fro example to add funny scenes into my video as that is very popular.
12. Question 9 ‘Do you prefer music videos with elements of performance from the artist/band or just a narrative story?’ 12 of my respondents answered this question saying that they prefer to have elements of performance in music videos, whilst the remaining 7 respondents said that they prefer having a narrative story in the video. Again I asked this question so I could get ideas for my own music video, by looking at these results I am able to notice that the majority of my respondents prefer elements of performance more than a narrative story so when I create my own music video I shall keep in mind that I should include elements of performance, this could include simple lip syncing.
13. Question 10 ‘Do you prefer music videos that are unique or do you prefer music videos that are similar to other videos?’ Lady Gaga’s music videos are very unique. The majority of my respondents said that they thought unique music videos were much better than videos that were similar to other videos. This information will again help me when I come around to creating my own music video because I know that I will have to make my video unique and not like any other music videos out. When my respondents were asked to provide a reason for choosing their answer, most of the respondents that said ‘unique’ also said that they thought unique music videos were better as they are “memorable” and “no like any others”.
