2. In order to successfully create an appropriate trailer I have researched
and looked into the film Paranormal Activity . For the film i have also
looked into marketing campaigns and other advertising tools, including
websites, merchandise etc.
The film which I am researching is 'The Blair Witch Project', it's
distributer is Artison Entertainment. Artison Entertainment is a very
independent company which only relies on minimum budget. Artison
Entertainment only produced one trailer however the public responded
very well to it.

4. Due to the films such small budget, the films advertising team only released one poster. In
the poster you can see the main image which straight away shows the film in a self
explanatory way. For example, straight away you can see that it has been set in the
woods or some sort of grave yard, and that the main character is a girl (final girl).
Also included in the poster, there is a small section which briefly explains what has
happened for the main characters to investigate in the series of events that lie ahead.
My favourite part of shown poster is the small writing which says; ' A year later, their
footage was found'. The reason why I found this interesting is that it creates suspense
and intensifies the poster. Which then leads to the audience to consider watching the said
film to find out what happened.
I think the poster has been done very well and doesn't include to much about the film
which causes the audience to wonder themselves. The image of the girl infront of the
woods created a dark atmosphere, therefore the audience would ask why she is there
and what is her situation.
5. The Blair Witch Project released only one trailer. The trailer includes footage from the film
but also feedback after the film from the victims parents which isn't shown in the actual
film. Although the film wasn't on the highest budget, the use of black and white
cinematography in the trailer creates a very deep and dark atmosphere.
6. As well as the poster and trailer, The Blair Witch Project created their own website.
The Blair Witch Project Website
The website includes footage from both the trailer and the film in a short space of
time. As well as footage there is a page specifically for information including the
legacy of The Blair Witch Project and the aftermath. There is also an option to actually
buy the DVD on the website which advertises their product for the audience to watch it
themselves, to find out what happened.
8. The elements in which clearly relate to my chosen genre; Psychological horror. These
elements include, the trailers non-diegetic and diegetic sounds, for example the typical
horror, dynamic sounds and creaks. The diegetic wind blowing creating a spooky effect.
The Mise-en-scene, for example the forest doesn't look like a typical forest, it has its
own tweaks and added horrific effects.
