Your Values and Setting Goals
● “Now just wait a minute, Sean,” you might be thinking. “I
don’t know what my end in mind is. I don’t know what I
want to be when I grow up.” If it makes you feel any better
● I’m grown up and I still don’t know what I want to be.??
● By saying begin with the end in mind, I’m not talking about
deciding every little detail of your future, like choosing your
career or deciding whom you’ll marry.
● I’m simply talking about thinking beyond today and
deciding what direction you want to take with your life, so
that each step you take is always in the right direction.
Begin with the End in Mind—What It
Means
• You may not realize it, but you do it all the
time. Beginning with the end in mind, that
is.
• You as you would like to be one year from
now.
Example:
If you were a good sport and actually tried this
experiment, you probably got in touch with
your deeper self. You got a feel for what’s
important to you and what you’d like to
accomplish this next year. That’s called
beginning with the end in mind.
THE CROSSROADS OF LIFE
● Let’s take a look at the first important reason.
You’re young. You’re free. You have your whole
life before you.
● You’re standing at the crossroads of life and
you have to choose which paths to take.
What About Friends?
● The need to be accepted and be part of a group is
powerful.
● For example, to be accepted by the kids who do
drugs, all you have to do is do drugs yourself.
What About Sex?
● If you wait until the “heat of the moment” to
choose which path to take, it’s too late.
● Your decision has already been made.
● You need to decide now.
WHO’S IN THE LEAD?
● The other reason to create a vision is that if you don’t,
someone else will do it for you
● Without an end in mind of our own we are often so
quick to follow anyone who is willing to lead,
even into things that won’t get us far.
MISSION STATEMENT
● Have confidence in yourself
● Be kind, courteous, and respectful to all people.
● Set reachable goals.
● Never lose sight of these goals.
● Never take the simple things in life for granted.
● Appreciate other people’s differences
● Ask questions.
● Strive each day to reach interdependence.
● Remember that before you can change someone else, you must first change yourself.
● Speak with your actions, not with your words.
● Make the time to help those less fortunate than yourself or those who are having a bad day.
● Read the 7 Habits every day.
Personal Mission Statement
● A personal mission statement is like
a tree with deep roots.
● It is stable and isn’t going anywhere
● It is also alive and continually
growing.
● You need a tree with deep roots to
help you survive all of the storms of
life that beat you up.
● The events you can’t control, you
have to move.
UNCOVERING YOUR TALENTS
● An important part of developing a personal mission statement is
discovering what you’re good at.
● Everyone has a talent, a gift, something they do well.
● Another truth is that we all blossom at different times. So if you’re a late
bloomer, relax. It may take you a while to uncover your talents.
The Great Discovery
● The Great Discovery is a fun activity
designed to help you get in touch with
your deeper self as you
● It prepare to write a mission
statement.
Getting Started on Your Mission Statement
There are four easy methods to help you get started writing your own mission statement. These are
just the suggestions from me.
● The Quote Collection: Collect on to five of your very favorite quotes onto one sheet of paper.
The sum of these quotes are your mission statement.
● The Brain Dump: Do a speed writing with fifteen minutes. Do not stop writing and read your
draft after that. Also you need to find what else do you need to make it inspire you,.
● The Retreat: Plan large chunk of time, and take your time. construct your own mission
statement using any method you see fit.
● The Big Lazy: If you are very lazy, be all that you can be!!
THREE WATCH-OUTS
● Negative Labels: When you label someone you are pre-judging them; the means making
conclusion. You can’t stand it when you are unfairly judged by someone.
● It’s All Over: Don’t think that it is over, it may seems that when you lose it but its really not.
Don’t give up!!
● Wrong Wall: Your lives don’t always require a 180-degree shifts in direction. Small changes
can make huge destination differences.
For The Goals
Once you have a mission in place you will want to set goals by planning. Goals
are more specific than a mission statement and can help you bread down your
mission into bite-sized pieces. If your personal mission was to be accomplished.
Key #1
● Count the cost before you start you goals.
● There are times that the cost is more than
what you could do, you will end up giving it
up.
● Start with little goals then go to bigger ones
when you are ready.
Key #2
● “A goal not written is
only a wish.”
● Write your goals down
because it would give
you more urge to do
the task.
Key #3
● Just do it.
● Once you are
committed to
the task, the
power to work
will increase.
Key #4
● Certain moments in life contain momentum.
● It’s like when we encounter new beginnings,
we will have the power to do many things.
● Setbacks and tragedies are often good
springboard to start something new.
Key #5
● There are certain things in life that you can’t
do alone.
● Rope up, people around you are there to
help you.
● Remember that they could give you more
strength than you could imagine.
Conclusion
● After you did the steps, do it. There are
times that you have weaknesses, turn them
into strength. Make setbacks as
springboards. Live your life at the best.
