Lesson plan: Field Trip to Sea World
Grade: 3rd
Objectives:
Give students knowledge of the sea and show them firsthand what life is like
under sea.
Students will learn how to look for certain sea creature on a map.
Student will learn the four oceans.
Duration: 1 day
CA Standards:
1.2 Students compare and contrast the absolute and relative locations of
places and people and describe the physical and or human characteristic of
places.
1. Locate on maps and globes their local community, CA, the United States,
the seven continents, and the four oceans.
National Geographic Standard:
1. How to use maps and other geographic representations, tools, and
technologies to acquire, process, and report information.
2. Materials:
1. Map showing the 4 oceans
2. A sea world Map
3. Pencil
ACTIVITY:
Students will go on a Field Trip to sea world. Students will see what life
is like under the sea .Students will also learn the four oceans. Each
student will receive a Sea world map, along with a Map of the 4 oceans:
Artic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and Indian Ocean. On the
sea world map students will identify where they would find the following:
The Shamu show
Where they could find Polar Bears
The Turtle Reef
The shark encounter
Closure:
When back at the school, ask for extra credit what the 4 oceans names
are.
