The great depression took time to fully impact California despite starting on the east coast, as California had a diversified economy that provided some buffer. During the depression, there was unrest among workers, including Mexican migrant farm workers who organized movements to fight for better rights and pay. Cesar Chavez led the influential "Hueulga" movement that organized Mexican grape pickers in California to campaign for improved working conditions.
2. The great depression was first heard on the other side of the United States and took a while before it gently hit California. The Californian economy was very diversified. In the mid 1800’s, California was booming rather quickly and pay was nicely distributed amongst all professions.br />Depression already hit California in the 1870’s and in the 1890’s. Surprisingly there were riots and many disagreements in the early workforce in California. In 1927 the Mexican migrant workers throughout the Imperial valley rose up in complaint. During this time in California there were several authors and movies that told the horrible lifestyle of those in the Depression.
3. Mexican workers in California fought viciously over time for their rights and pay but the biggest of which was the “Hueulga” Movement inspired and led Cesar Chavez. Chavez organized a crusade fighting the Mexican workers in the grape fields of California.
