To throw it in the eternal fire, which is the only place the ring, can be destroyed, but they have to
travel through Gondor the evil land that Sauron has taken over. Through Emyn Muil, the Dead
Marshes, around Sauron's Black Riders, and Gate, to Mount Doom, and destroy the ring. For the
other party in the story, their goal is to stop Saruman, and his army. First they get the help from
Rohan, and its king. Then they travel for the dark tower, but they are slowed down by the millions of
Orcs and corrupt men sent by Saruman. After many days of fighting, and many deaths they move
onto the tower, to find it's outer wall destroyed, all the guards that were left behind dead, and the
holes where the Orcs worked flooded, by the tree people the Ents.
Climax– The climax of this story is at the end of the first book, in this book (The book contains
books 3 & 4, which separates the two parties and there dealings.), when the two armies are
fighting, and the Orcs sneak in through an underground ditch. Then they seal it up, but again they
sneak through it again, but are defeated again. Although the Rohan army wins, they had hardly any
archers, unlike the Orcs with there poison tipped, black feathered arrows. For a while I almost

The Lord of the Rings and Odyssey are two very weird stories in my opinion. The two stories
include several similarities. The most noteworthy similarity of the two that were in common was the
use of themes. Both included similar themes such as, life, death,power, brotherly love, myth,
temptation, and journey. One thing I noticed was the use of several different themes included in both

J.R. R. Tolkien's classic novel The Fellowship of the Ring was made into a film in 2001 and directed
by Peter Jackson. This essay will be examining this specific film through a worldview perspective.
For the purposes of this essay, worldview will be defined as "a perceptual framework". (The
Transforming Vision, pg. 17) Worldviews can be specific to a single person, or generalized to a
group of people. The worldview expressed in this essay through examples from The Fellowship of
the Ring will come from the theme of Creation.
This theme of Creation is correlated with the creation of the universe by God, as written in the book
of Genesis. God created the heavens and the earth before Jesus was born; before salvation ever

Ring was and its importance to the rest of the story. The film does not begin with Frodo saving the
day, but rather the history that laid the foundation for his journey to happen. The ring was forged in

about. Bilbo's life. He is seen as a very mysterious hobbit, the neighbors have witnessed strange
creatures such as dwarves and elves visit Bilbo several times. The week before Bilbo's big birthday
bash is a crazy one. When the party arrives it is one of the greatest parties ever.
Gandalf himself has come and is doing his fancy firework show. When Bilbo gives his speech he
mentions that he will be leaving for good. Then he proceeds to put on a ring and turn invisible.
The ring he puts on is a magic ring that he stole from Gollum on his journey in the Hobbit.
He leaves and entrusts the ring to his heir, Frodo Baggins. Gandalf gets worried after Bilbo tells him

Christ figure, but he is not. Because Tolkien did not like allegory there are many others. Such as

Even before he was King, Aragorn number lessly shown aspects of what a true king does. He
showed kindness throughout the whole story. He had asked forgiveness when it was needed. Even
though some could not see him as a true King he was. He wandered his whole life looking to help.
He was just full of service. Aragorn did what he could do everytime. "A little further there is a place
where we can rest for a little. There I will do what I can for you. Come, Boromir! We will carry
them."

Gandalf and Sauron were driving 70 miles per hour down a desolate road at 2 am. Both men were
followed and stopped by state troopers Bilbo and Frodo outside of Sauron 's home. Since deer
season started, Bilbo and Frodo were looking for hunters with illegal firearms and illegally shot
game. The police stopped Sauron and Gandalf in the driveway. In the process of speaking to Sauron,
Frodo smelled alcohol on Sauron's breath. Sauron agreed to take a sobriety test, failed it, and was
subsequently arrested. Gandalf left the vehicle, and Bilbo confronted Gandalf before Gandalf could
enter Sauron 's home. Bilbo asked Gandalf if he could search the vehicle and Gandalf agreed to the

Both The Odyssey and The Fellowship of the Ring are epics depicting the maturity of one of the
heros in the poem/book. The Odyssey was translated by Robert Fitzgerald and The Fellowship of
the Ring was written by J.R.R Tolkien in 1954. Telemakhos and Frodo must overcome the people
that stand in their way to reach their full potential. Frodo Baggins and Telemakhos both overcome
impediments and by their mentor figures, reach their maturity. The Fellowship of the Ring takes
place in a fictional world named Middle–Earth. The title itself tells some aspects of the book. The

journey, good vs. evil, and several other themes that the heroes must overcome to reach their goals.
The Fellowship of the Ring has really been a great book to read. It entices the reader and immerses
them into the world of Middle–Earth. While the book is action–packed, it delivers a strong message
of Frodo's best qualities; his persistence, loyalty, and bravery. The Fellowship of the Ring is a book
that I would recommend to everybody I know. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the epic by J.R.R
Tolkien and am excited to read the sequel next

An individual's actions have the capacity to guide their actions and behaviours. Throughout Peter
Jackson's cinematic trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, the power of an individual's motivations is
vividly conveyed, as it influences many character's course of actions. The root of Saruman's
motivations is his allegiance to Sauron, "Together, my Lord Sauron, we shall rule this Middle–
Earth." (Saruman, LOTR:TTT, Jackson), as well as supplementary influences. As for Frodo, his
incentives were based on the burden of the One Ring from Bilbo, "Bilbo was meant to find the Ring.

To regain the goodness or light, is to remove whatever obscures it, such as Sauron's evil ring. In
Tolkien's world, Middle Earth, when the ring is destroyed, goodness and light is restored to the
world, illuminating the world as brightly as it was before. But as the journey of The Lord of the
Rings series tells, the overcoming of obstacles to regain light and goodness can be long, difficult,
and comes at a high cost. Even when the light is restored all of the damage caused by the evil still

The many references by Junot Diaz to J.R.R. Tolkien's universe in The Brief Wondrous Life of
Oscar Wao prove to be more than just an allusion to the fantastical works. The recurring
comparisons of the Trujillato to the power of Sauron are more than just metaphors. They are
descriptions. Diaz uses his references to describe people and situations, in real life, that have no
other way of being described. The first direct quote of Oscar de Leon is, "What more sci–fi than

Although Shelob lives in Sauron's domain, he does not have any direct control over her. Also, just as
Shelob never hesitates to prey on both man and orc, so too La Fea "cheated everyone she did
business with, including her brother" (139). Diaz uses the allusion to explain even what the sister of
Trujillo thinks, knowing that Shelob does not like to kill her prey right away, instead stinging them
and leaving them paralyzed before she actually kills them. This method is used against Beli as well;
when La Fea orders her orcs to capture Beli, she is beaten to the brink of death, but not killed. The
perfection and detail of Diaz's allusion goes much deeper than a simple metaphor, and actually
defines who this character is.
When Tolkien originally wrote The Lord of the Rings, he did so as reference to World War II, which
was ongoing at the time. For him, Sauron was a representation of Hitler; the gaze of His Eye, the
spread of industrialization and destruction from the war. For Diaz, Sauron is Trujillo, the gaze of His
Eye, the domination he exerted, as well as the anonymity of his secret police. It was one thing for
Diaz to make the comparison of Trujillo to Sauron, but he now affirms his argument by adding

I will be applying this criteria to Gandalf, a wizard in the series The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R
Tolkien. Despite not having wounds in his hands, feet, side and head Gandalf did sacrifice himself
for the good of his friends when he battled Balrog, a fire demon, ultimately perishing but later rising
from the dead as a pure white wizard rather than his previous gray form. Furthermore, Gandalf is
good with children as he not only is in charge of 4 children throughout his journey but he is also

Corruption Of Power
Power is wanted by many people across the universe, and those that gain it are privileged to many
advantages in life. Power can be a good thing and a bad thing, mostly depending on what type of
person gains the power, but in the end, everyone is the same. Great power has the potential to lead to
corruption of the individual, leading to great overlooked weaknesses.
One example of this phenomenon would be the story of Tom Riddle, who, through power's
corruption and pure dark magic, was transformed into a snakelike abomination that struck fear into
the hearts of all. As a young boy, he sought power over the other children in the orphanage at which
he stayed, often bullying them both physically and mentally, at one point even hanging a boy's pet
rabbit from the attic rafters. As he grew older, he fell further under the seduction of power, leading
him to transform into the monster known as Lord Voldemort. In the end, he became obsessed with
eternal life, performing many deeds in pursuit of immortality, which included the drinking of
unicorn's blood and the creation of several Horcruxes. Because of all the things he had done to
preserve his life and gain eternal power while doing so, he lived 13 years of his life as a spirit–like
entity, only possessing the ability to possess animals. In the end, having been depleted of his
Horcruxes, he perished by the wand of the only wizard capable of doing the job, Harry Potter, and
consequently, suffered the rest of eternity as a pathetic minuscule form of a human, trapped in limbo
forever.
Another example, can be made of Saruman the White, who when confronted with the opportunity to
gain great power under the Dark Lord Sauron, chased his chance to rule part of Middle Earth. He
served Sauron with complete allegiance, using Isengard as the main birthing site of Sauron's forces,
namely the Uruk–hai. He was the servant who publicly commanded Sauron's forces, and is the one
that led the opposition against the Fellowship of the Ring for most the War of the Ring. In the end,
his fortress of Isengard was vanquished by a squad of Ents, led by Treebeard, along with hobbits

The Lord of the Rings has many themes throughout its three books, but the one theme that I find to
be most prevalent is that of ecology. Nature is, if not the strongest, then one of the strongest images
Tolkien uses in The Lord of the Rings, he shows us a world that he calls "green and good" and we
see the people of Middle–Earth fighting to save this world. In this paper we will be looking at one of

We can feel the conflict shaping, surrounding these two opposing views. We can see the brewing of
a war. On one side, we have Treebeard and all of the Ents and on the other side are Saruman and his
army of Orcs. In both book and film one thing is quite clear, in Saruman's bid for power and
destruction he chose the right army. Orcs are the antithesis of harmony with the natural world. They
are violent creatures meant only for destruction and war. Orcs are unnatural creatures, counterfeits

"strange–looking, weather–beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall." This isn't the
description one would think of when describing the heir to the throne of the Kingdom of men, but at

It takes time for a person to developed, no one knows who they are from the very beginning.
People/characters go through events in their life that changes them for better or for worse. In The
Lord of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien we encounter many character that shows growth but one
character that develops for the better is Aragorn. The first thing we are told about Aragorn is from
Gandalf letter to Frodo "Not all gold glitter" which tells the reader to not underestimate him, but
when Aragorn is first introduced in the story, we assume he is just a ranger and nothing more, he
doesn't seem like someone which much help or of use but it turns out that he is actually Isildur heir
which makes him the rightful king of Gondor, and as we later see in the novel one of the biggest
help they could of find. Aragorn's character grows so much from his motivation to protect middle
earth, his interaction with the people around him and finally his acceptance as role of king. The first

Ring, there are many hints at it's consciousness, from the statement that the ring has a will of it's

J.R.R. Tolkien has shown to the readers throughout the novel is that, power corrupts all who seek it.
