Nike Vertical Relationship
A simplified example of Nike's Supply chain with the upstream portion focusing only on the
supplier for sneakers in figure 1 (Laudon and Laudon, 2017)
Vertical relationships refer to the traditional linkages between firms in the supply chain such as
retailers, distributors, manufacturers, and, parts and material suppliers (Coyle, Langley, Novack,
Gibson., 2012). There are 3 types of supply network relationships; Vertical integration, partnerships,
and market trading. The first example of a vertical relationship is spot trading. Spot trading is the
purchase or sale of a foreign currency, financial instrument, or commodity for immediate delivery
(Staff, 2017). It may also be known as cash trade. Spot trades are becoming more important to
companies as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vertical integration is a response to inefficiencies that arise when there is market power in both the
upstream and downstream markets. It then suggests that market prices will be more than the
marginal cost of production in both upstream and downstream markets as firms exercise market
power (Joskow, 2010). There can be backwards and forwards integration. Forward integration is
when a company is based at the beginning of the supply chain, but controls stages further down
from it. A business that is at the end of a supply chain but takes on upstream activities is known as
backward integration. Netflix is an example. They also manufacture content. (Amadeo, 2017)
Target is an example of a store which uses vertical integration. (Amadeo, 2017) It owns the
manufacturing, controls the distribution and is also the retailer. It can then offer a product as its own
brand name at a lower price. Business would find this important as they don't have to rely on
suppliers and are less likely to face disruptions. They can avoid labor disputes. Another reason
companies would vertically integrate is, so it has economies of scale. This allows the business to
produce in bulk for less. (Amadeo,

Health And Good Food At New Zealand
The customer is a main thing from the business, without customer, the business will not run. As an
entrepreneur, we have to observe what the needs of the customers become. When we think about
societal changes, recognize that the customer's needs and wants evolve, with that evolution there is
an opportunity for the emergence of new ventures started by entrepreneurs, we also want to
anticipate societal change and recognize that entrepreneurs who anticipate such changes are going to
play a more successful role in entering and growing and scaling their new ventures in these space
(Green, 2015, p. 70). Nowadays, people more concern about their health, they start to exercise and
consume the health foods. New Zealand has struggling to reduce the obesity in adults and children.
Based on these conditions, we can evaluate the needs, wants and fears of the customer. Health and
good food become the answer to solving the problem that customer face like the risk of serious
health conditions that causing by eating habit of bad foods. With hydroponic products, people can
try to alter their consumption through foods to get a healthier life and longer life expectancy. The

Smithfield Food’s Vertical Integration Strategy
Smithfield food's vertical integration strategy 1. What are the most important elements of Smithfield
Food's strategy? 1. They chose the food industry – in particular the red meat sector. 2. Their core
business focus was on mainly pork, and beef to a lesser extent. 3. The company opted for an
aggressive growth strategy which is primarily based on amongst others a geographic expansion: o
They carried out 32 acquisitions since 1981. o They expanded into foreign markets – Smithfield
made acquisitions in Canada, France, Romania and Poland. Acquired meat processors in Poland and
Romania; including a hog farming operation in the latter country. 4. They followed a product

They saved local farms and brought jobs to this region. They also shouldered the risk of hog prices,
thereby protecting the farmers. Smithfield was also able to satisfy customer demands of better
products at lower prices. The local farming community showed their tacit support by their eagerness
to do business with Smithfield as there was a two year long waiting list in 1998 for farmers wishing
to enter into contract farming! o The company should be proud of its business model. A business
model refers to how and why the business will generate revenues, cover costs, and produce profits
and a positive ROE. Annual sales in 2006 of $11 billion from $1.5 billion in 1995 and an average
compound growth rate of 24% during the decade speak volumes. However attention is required in
addressing the following: Concerns from the industry observers on contract farming – more
specifically their "debt laden" nature Allegations of unfair labour practices– low pay/ low quality, in

OUTSOURCING
Transfer some of what are traditional internal activities and resources of a firm to outside vendors,
making it slightly different than the traditional make–or–buy decision. Outsourcing is part of the
continuing trend toward utilizing the efficiency that comes with the specialization. The vendor
performing the outsourced service is an expert in that particular specialty, and the outsourcing firm
can focus on its critical success factors – its core competencies.
5. SUPPLY–CHAIN STRATEGIES
For goods and services to be obtained from outside sources, the firm must decide on a supply–chain
strategy. One such strategy is the approach of negotiating with many suppliers and playing one
supplier against another. A second strategy is to develop long term, "partnering" relationships with a
few suppliers to satisfy the end customer. A third strategy is vertical integration, where firms may
decide to use vertical backward integration by actually buying the supplier. A fourth variation is a
combination of few suppliers and vertical integration, known as keiretsu. In a keiretsu, suppliers
become part of a company coalition. Finally, fifth strategy is to develop virtual companies that use

People grow, and plants grow, and our knowledge grows. Tas well as theories grow and the
population grow and the dependency we have on the world we surly embody grows. Hello, I am my

and acres of crops. Which indeed, grow. So, I've always been surrounded by everything–agriculture
and yet, I have noticed when going to the city, skylscrapers growning out of the urban concrete
fields. also growing with something new: the trendy greenhouses growing vertically skyscrapers.
I've also heard the bickering about our limited amount and potential use of the land, and as an FFA
members we have been taught that by weyou already know that by 2050 agriculturist will need to
produce enough food to feed 9.7 billion people (www.fao.org). Our population is only ever growing
and it seems like our land acres continues tois shrinking. However, as agriculturist yearn for
innovative tactics they've have realized that the best choice it to just grow up.So perhaps our best
choice as innovative agriculturalist is to just grow up. In 2014, Dickson Despommier, had an idea

Managing A Business Model : Porter's Five Forces
Manage for Success – Two Companies Approach Porter's five forces provide a methodology to
evaluate the external markets. Its consideration of substitutes, threats and power of buyer and
supplier assists with the development of an integration strategy. A thorough analysis can isolate
attractive opportunities in support of building a profitable business model. These strategies can
leverage vertical and/or horizontal integration of new business entities. These entities are designed
to help with growing market share, increasing efficiencies and/or reducing costs. Online business
using the internet has experienced significant growth over the last two decades. According to the
Internet World Stats (2014) the number of worldwide internet users has grown from an estimated 16
million in 1995 to 2.9 billion in 2014. This world of interconnectivity has provided a way for people
all around the globe to communicate with one another in a real time format. The internet has
removed the distance between governments, industries, businesses and individuals. This
interconnectivity has helped to establish the foundation for a globalized community. The ease to
establish global boundaries have put new emphasis on the management of systems to support these

Vertical Farming In Canada
The concept of growing food in a 30 story high building, which takes up few square acres, to enable
people the potential to grow produce is absolutely fascinating. This concept can be related to that of
spatial scale as mentioned in a previous lecture. It is able to reduce the amount of land needed to
farm, yet still feed thousands of people. Not only that but it reduces scale in terms of imports. In
Canada, we do not have the outdoor climate year round to produce fresh produce, therefore in the
winter months we rely on imports from other countries to meet our demand. With vertical farming
technology it will be able to reduce the spatial distance of food production and food consumption
through promoting a more local way of getting groceries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is able to provide these communities with better, healthier food that is produced within their cities.
This is very important, not only for social reasons, but for economic and environmental reasons as
well. In this case there is no need to invest in global imports which can be expensive especially
when the produce would then also have to be distributed from core regions to remote First Nations
communities. The vertical farms would also allow for a reduction in GHG's since they would not
have to be transported far distances. What also allows these farms to be more of a greener footprint
is the fact that these vertical farms, because they are indoors do not need to worry about common
pests and therefore using pesticides or other harmful, costly products. Vertical farms provide the
opportunity, not only to First Nations communities but urban centers as well, to local and potentially
organic produce all year. This can have a very positive effect on the social aspects of a community,
since they are working together, putting money back into their local economy, and becoming more

A Brief Note On Grupo Industrial Bimbo ( Bimbo )
Executive Summary Grupo Industrial Bimbo (Bimbo) has been successful as a baking company for
the past several years. With their focus on remaining positioned as just a "baking company," they
have acquired and partnered with several different companies to defragment the industry and expand
their product lines and capabilities. This paper will explore the current successful strategies that
Bimbo is utilizing, the threats that Bimbo is facing, and finally give some recommendations on
moving forward as a company. Bimbo has been successful over the past several years due to three
main strategic elements: analyzing the external environment, utilizing their best resources, and
vertically integrating parts of their supply chain. They have analyzed their external environment
through overcoming barriers to entry, utilized their best resources by engaging their human capital
and reinvesting in their factories to produce at a higher quality, and vertically integrated the flour
mill into their factories to ensure quality control and the protection of proprietary information.
Grupo Industrial Bimbo is also facing threats all around. These threats include changing
consumption habits, the switch from mom–and–pop stores to large supermarkets, and the
competitors in the baking and snacks industry. The consumption habits are a threat because
consumers are switching from largely processed, pre–packaged food to healthier, fresher options.

Apple Vertical Integration Essay
I can start with the fact that Apple Inc. is a vertically integrated company. It is a package of every
things from hardware to software, over to online services. It do all this to proof its products that
distinguish market from PCs to smartphones.
In this essay, I will discuss how Apple used vertical integration strategies, both backward integration
and forward integration to planning its competitive position within its industry.
First of all, vertical integration is when the company need to develop its business and expand it to
areas that are in different points on the same production channel like when a company owns its
supplier or distributer in order to get more control in a particular sector, as well as to increase profits
through greater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can say Apple vertically integrated because its four companies in one, so all key parts of the
supply chain under its controlling. It's a hardware company because its designs its own hardware, its
software company because its own and developed its software such as iOS operating system, Apple
is a service company because it prepare its products like the iTunes an iCloud also Apple as a retail
company it retails of its apps online through Apple Store. This is unlike Samsung used Google's
Android operating system in its cell phones.
Apple followed this approach, therefore all profit go to Apple and increase its income but also there
are disadvantages to this strategy when a company fails to keep their finances they are only
influence itself and that lead to loss more money.
Apple has followed both backward and forward integration for many reasons. To control its
manufacturing process of its hardware, to know its customers and to control innovation supply
chain. A backward integration target is to develop the inputs and that way give more control on
Apple's supply chain. Apple followed forward integration to increase its market share by changing
the method that following in distribution. For many reasons Apple decide to have own retail stores,

Pros And Disadvantages Of Vertical Farming : Advantages...
Introduction
Many communities in the northern portion of Canada's provinces and territories do not have access
to fresh produce (fruit and vegetables) year–round. Produce shipped to these locations is expensive
to transport, especially when items are out of season, and have a shorter shelf life due to additional
time spent in transport. Vertical farming is an urban farming technique used to maximize agricultural
output in a smaller area than traditional agriculture requires (Crops Review, 2015). Epting (2016)
supports the statement by stating that urban farming can yield up to five times the amount of
vegetables than traditional faming can using them same amount of land–base. Edible plants that

Natural lighting is the cheapest source of lighting, however, depending on the facility natural light
may not be sufficient for optimal plant growth and artificial lighting will be necessary. Even though
there are drought tolerant plant species, the majority do need regular watering so a water delivery
system must also be included in the design. Each system must also include a vertical containment
system where the plants will reach mature. To fully mature, plants need to be pollinated. In a
controlled environment, like vertical farming, pollination cannot occur naturally unless beehives are
part of the facility, so it must be done manually (K, 2011). This can be time consuming and many
individuals will be needed to complete pollination to ensure optimal plant growth and development
(K, 2011).
Both aeroponics and aquaponics can grow the same plants: tomato, eggplant, lettuce, kale, zucchini,

that they cannot grow produce that requires underground growth (i.e. carrots, potatoes, beets).

Clockspeed Summary Essay
Summary of Clock Speed: Winning Industry Control in the Age of Temporary Advantage by Charles
H. Fine Introduction In order to conduct a scientific study, you set a baseline then introduce changes
in order to understand the impact of the change. Unfortunately, the rate of change, or clock speed, in
many studies (human evolution as an example) is too slow for one person to have time to introduce
multiple changes and measure the results. Biologists have found by studying fruit flies (a rapid clock
speed with a life span of days rather than years), they can reach conclusions faster by studying
multiple life spans in a short amount of time. As with the fruit fly, some businesses also have a rapid

For example, if computer buying slows down, the demand for chips drops rapidly creating a large
drop for the manufacturers' equipment used in making the component. The author goes on to give
solid examples of how and why this effect is in place. The second law – clock speed amplification –
is in contrast to the first. As you get closer to the end customer of the supply chain, the clock speed
increases (Fine, 1998, p. 97). Computer software serves as a classic example. As computers become
more powerful, more feature rich software becomes the expectation. The result is a "race" to provide
more features to take advantage of the new power of the latest hardware. The end result is as supply
chain design may ultimately be the competitive advantage as much as the product it produces.
Supply chain design must now be part of the overall strategy for an organization rather than
something that "just happens". Using the supply chain design, market orientation (vertical vs.
horizontal) and industry clock speed, specifically fast ones, organizations may find an advantage in
their ability to concurrently design products, processes and capabilities (Fine, 1998, p. 127). When
companies do not consider supply chain design and engineering as a concurrent activity in product
design, they are setting themselves up for future issues. The author points out a similar relationship

Contributions Of Industrialization
Industrialization was a time period where the process of manufacturing goods became easier
because of technological innovations. The changes during the Industrial Revolution contributed to
the rise of big business because industries wanted to expand their efforts. Industrialization assisted
manufacturing industries by making production more mechanized and efficient. Technological
innovations due to industrialization caused a rise of factories and employment opportunities in
America. The benefits of industrialization did not come easy; sacrifices were made which resulted in
unfair conditions for laborers. The rise of big business led to calls for the reform of industry because
monopolies were overthrowing other companies, which is unfair for these companies.
Industrialization led to the rise of big business, however it resulted in injustice.
As companies continued to gain high profits from their industrial endeavors, they wanted to grow
bigger and bigger. When companies realized that they were in control of all parts of their business
they could make the most profit; this is known as horizontal and vertical integration. John D.
Rockefeller, co–founder of the Standard Oil Company, "pursued a strategy that came to be known as
horizontal integration, in which a dominant corporation buys or forces out most of its competitors"
(Shi and Tindall 632). "Instead of depending upon the products or services of other firms, known as
middlemen," the company owns everything it needs in

Andrew Carnegie : A Hero Or A Hero?
Andrew Carnegie was Scottish immigrant who became one of the most famous businessmen and
was a self–made man during the Gilded Age in 1870's – 1900's. He grew up poor and worked as a
messenger for a local telegraph company until he was noticed by Tom Scott, the president of
Pennsylvania Railroad, who later become his mentor and made him the superintendent of his
company (Film). With the help of Scott, he later made a fortune in steel company. But, was Andrew
Carnegie a hero? Andrew Carnegie was a hero because of his business practices and his
philanthropy however he was not a hero because of his relationship with his laborers.
One of the reason Andrew Carnegie was a hero is because of his business practices. From 1875–
1888, he drove down the price of the production costs from $65 to $32 which is about 50% (Doc.
D). He was also pioneer of vertical integration. He buys the company that has supplies needed for
his steel. He owned Frick coke fields and mining company which are use some of the supplies need
to make steels. He controlled "the production process from raw material to manufacture and sale of
finished product" under the vertical integration (Doc.G). From the 1870's to 1900's, the increased of
the steel production in the U.S was about 10,000 tons and ⅓ of it were Andrew Carnegie's
production ( Doc. E). Business practices is one of the reason why he's a hero because with the

Vertical Farming : The Solution For Water Shortage
Tanner Gohl Professor Karen Fitts English 101 11/15/16 Vertical Farming: The Solution to Water
Shortage "If we do nothing, we shall all surely perish!" You have probably heard this phrase spoken
by many a doomsayer and have thought nothing of it. Dismissing it as folly, you content yourself by
believing that it is "Simply nonsense!" or more commonly, "It won't happen during my generation."
However, this view, when contrasted with our current situation, is detrimental to all of us. While it is
understandably difficult to accept the reality of the situation, the truth is that we are digging our own
graves. We are on the verge of environmental catastrophe with the nearest one being water and food
shortages, in addition to the mass extinction of life caused by rampant pollution. However, it doesn't
have to be this way. If we can change ourselves, if we can change our ways of life, we can co–exist
with our planet without selfishly destroying it. If we do not do this, there is no denying the truth,
"We shall surely perish." Now how can we combat these issues? Well, to do that we must first find
the root cause of the issues. While it is understandable that we may think the solution to water
shortage is simply to use less of it as the media would lead us to believe, the truth of the matter is
that we have plenty of freshwater. However, the water we do have is being polluted and inefficiently
used by our current environmentally unfriendly, modern agricultural practices. While hotly

Difference Between Zara And Operational Effectiveness
Operational effectiveness According to Porter, the reason so many firms suffer aggressive, margin
eroding competition, is because they've defined themselves according to operational effectiveness
rather than strategic positioning. Operational effectiveness refers to performing the same tasks better
than rivals perform them. Everyone wants to be better, but the danger in operational effectiveness is
in can be copied. At its heart Zara is building on a vertically integrated demand and supply chain,
while most other textile chains rely on outsourcing and cheap labor in China. It enables company to
short turnaround times and achieves greater flexibility, reducing stock to a minimum and
diminishing fashion risk to the greatest possible extent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the model itself is often very easy to replicate, technology is essential to creating and
enabling novel approaches to business that are defensibly different than rivals and which can be
quite difficult for others to copy. The fashion market has changed considerably over the past few
decades. Fashion products, which used to be an elite consumption product and now, are mass
consumption market, are embodying what has been called "the democratisation process of fashion".
In the last years the fashion market has polarized. On the one hand there are producers and retailers
of premium products on a high price level offering luxury products. On the other hand the low price
young fashion producers, often foreign international operating chains like the Swedish chain H&M
(Hennes & Mauritz), the Dutch chain C&A(Clemens and August ), the Spanish chains Mango and
Zara or the American chain Gap. Zara is considered as an example of the relationship between
technology and strategic positioning. Inditex describes Zara in this way: "Zara is a high fashion
concept offering apparel, footwear and accessories for women men and children, from newborns to
adults aged 45. Zara stores offer a compelling blend of fashion, quality and price offered in
attractive stores in prime locations on premier commercial streets and in upscale shopping centers.
The in–house design and production capabilities enable us to offer fresh designs at out Zara stores
twice a week throughout the year. "Zara's target market is very broad because they do not define
their target by segmenting ages and lifestyles as traditional retailers do. Its target market is a young,
educated one that likes fashion and is sensitive to fashion. Today, people around the world through
various communication devices have more access to information about fashion.

Vertical And Vertical Types Of Vertical Farming
Vertical Farms– Vertical farming is a component of urban agriculture and is the practice of
producing food in vertically stacked layers or vertically inclined surfaces. Advantages of Vertical
Farming Minimum Input – Maximum Output Vertical Farming is a revolutionary approach to
producing high quantities of nutritious and quality fresh food all year round, without relying on
skilled labour, favourable weather, high soil fertility or high water usage. Vertical Farm Systems
growing cycles are consistent and reliable, allowing commercial growers to confidently commit to
delivery schedules and supply contracts. In a well–managed Vertical Farm System, there are no such
thing as 'seasonal crops ' and there are no crop losses. Vertical Farm Systems are fully enclosed and
climate controlled, completely removing external environment factors such as disease, pest or
predator attacks. It also means our farms are not dependent on fertile arable land and can be
established in any climatic region globally irrespective of seasonal daylight hours and extremes in
temperature. The use of high efficiency LED lighting technology ensures minimum power usage for
maximum plant growth. Computer management of photosynthetic wavelengths in harmony with
phase of crop growth further minimises energy use while ensuring optimised crop yields Greatly
reduced energy usage for climate control is the direct result of not requiring sunlight inside the

Gymnastics Springboard
The topic of this experiment is to determine which type of gymnastics springboard will give the
highest elevation. There are two types of springboards used in vaulting the traditional springboard
and the air board. Based on research the hypothesis states that if a gymnast jumps on an air board
then the height off the board will be higher than if jumping on a traditional springboard.
To begin with, the vault has been in the Olympics for men since 1896 and for women since 1952.
The vault requires a gymnast to run down a runway, jump on a springboard, and flip over the vault
table. The springboard is a very important piece in the vault. It is made up of a platform and springs
and is used to help get the gymnast up in the air. This experiment was chosen to determine if one
type of springboard gives and advantage over the other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the traditional and air springboards are widely used and sanctioned by USAG guidelines. The
traditional springboard uses up to six vertical springs while the air board uses up to 40 horizontal
springs. Gymnasts appear to defy gravity when they are doing their flips but it is really physics and
Newton's 3rd Law in action. When a gymnast jumps on a springboard the springs compress and then
decompress pushing the gymnast into the air. This is an example of Newton's 3rd Law of Motion
which states that "every action has an equal but opposite reaction"(tackk.com/c003hs). Before the

Pros And Cons Of Netflix
Monopolies
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
James Coward Abstract Most Americans tend to put very little thought into the companies that
supply them with their goods and services, however, even less tend to think about how those
companies have a monopoly on the market and what affect that has on small businesses and local
producers and consumers. Aside from the game of Monopoly, few people have had any real desire to
control a market or hold a majority of the shares in a particular sector; these following companies
have a monopoly on their respective markets and it is typically taken for grated by the general
population. Luxottica is the biggest manufacturer of glasses in the world. Netflix is working on
becoming a monopoly based on how often people tend to utilize their services over traditional ...

A lot of people rely on them without even realizing it. Some of the cons of monopolies include price
fixing that is associated with a monopoly being able to set whichever price they choose for a product
or service simply because the law allows them to do so and there is no viable substitute that can
compete with the monopoly company's product. As has been stated multiple times, monopolies
control the market and are able to provide inferior goods if they so choose at the standard rate.
Monopolies are able to reduce operating costs while keeping prices fixed or elevated. Competition
typically breeds innovation. Companies are searching for the newest and greatest product that will
continue to keep them on top of the market. When a monopoly has a grip on a market, the need to be
innovative and appealing to their customers can quite often disappear. Until the next generation of
technology comes around that allows customers to have an acceptable substitute for the monopoly's
product, customers can be stuck with inferior technology for much longer than is

Steve jobs the CEO of Apple, thought that implementation of forward vertical integration is one of
the most significant tactics that grant Apple a leading competitive position. No doubt Apple has too
many competitors, but forward vertical integration has been realized as a tool that distinguishes
Apple from others. It has been decided that the less Apple depends on others the more competitive
they are. This made Apple possess their operating system. Apple could successfully get rid of the
middle man. This means they distribute their own products through their Apple retailers that do exist
all over the world. Through making use of the forward vertical integration, Apple assures that their
some of the products entirely controlled by them from to bottom. Apple distinguished itself from
existing rivals (Lyons,2010).Another thing that Apple benefited from forward vertical integration is
that Apple could gain a marvelous competitive position in the global market. This is attributed to
fact that Apple became four companies in one. Apple includes four diverse companies. It's a
hardware company, a software company, a services company, and a retail company. Being a retailer
makes them control prices of their sales. This adds a competitive edge to Apple (Bajarin,

Zara broad offering meets its customer's demands quickly. This is due to management's almost
instantaneous response to changes in customers' needs (Ghemawat et al, 2006).
Zara's prices consider the cost of exporting and market conditions of the store's location (D'Andrea

Zaras inventory turnover is higher than their direct competition (at 10.67% versus H&M at

visits to stores per customer (Kotler et al, 2009).

Case Study Of Hitachi, Ltd.
Hitachi, Ltd. follows the principle of Centralization as it is a Japanese firm and the Japanese are

Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller: Captains of...
Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller; Captains of industry, or robber barons? True, Andrew
Carnegie and John D Rockefeller may have been the most influential businessmen of the 19th
century, but was the way they conducted business proper? To fully answer this question, we must
look at the following: First understand how Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller changed the
market of their industries. Second, look at the similarities and differences in how both men achieved
domination. Third and lastly, Look at how both men treated their workers and customers in order
achieve the most possible profit for their company. Let us first look at Mr. Andrew Carnegie.

Although Carnegie liked to be the tough businessman, he was not a monopolist and did not like
monopolists. On the other side of the pool, Rockefeller was dominating the oil industry with no

He helped coin the term 'ruin or rule.' Rockefeller had a great belief in ruthless business, yet
Carnegie did not. But in the end both had the most successful companies in their industries.
Although their industries were booming, customers and workers felt the cruel and harsh treatment
the two leaders had to offer. Rockefeller treated his customers as Carnegie treated his workers, cruel
and harsh. Rockefeller wanted desprately for every company to buy his product. He would use
ruthless tactics such as start his own chain of grocery stores to put local merchants out of business if
they did not buy from his standard oil company. Carnegie dealt with his customers better than
Rockefeller did but Carnegie dealt with his own workers like ants on an ant farm. Carnegie treated
his workers as nothing; he gave them nothing but a cold lack of diplomacy and consideration.
Carnegie encouraged rivalry amongst his workers for he thought it helped turn a better profit. These
rivalries became so important to the workers that many involved would not speak to each other for
years. Although both Carnegie and Rockefeller used tactics that may have

Nike Supply Chain Essay
Forecasting in the fashion industry is usually a complicated due to the fact that it's characterized by
high demand, short product life cycles and different varieties of product lines. Consequently,
managing customer demand tends to be difficult, for organizations have to avoid large volumes of
stock. In this industry, there's intense competition and consumers are price conscious; accordingly,
these factors have slowed the growth of this industry. As a result, this made it difficult for the
companies to create brands which can offer high quality products with cheap prices (Fernino et al.,

The Length And Vertical Jump Test
Introduction
A vertical jump test is used, both by athletes and the general public, to determine a variety of
functional actions. For example, it is commonly used to determine the development of elastic leg
strength (Mackenzie, B., 2007), jumping ability and it may even be used to asses recovery prior to
or post–training (Baggett, K., 2004). In this investigation, the vertical jump test is being used to
determine whether there is any correlation between leg length and vertical jump height. The vertical
jump, sometimes known as the Sargent jump test, can either be performed from standing as is in this
investigation, or as a running vertical jump test which allows a run up prior to the jump.

Then, using the tape measure, the length of the leg was measured from the hip to the heel of the
foot. The length of the leg was then recorded. The participant raised their hand and the vertical leap
test equipment was adjusted accordingly. The participant then jumped and hit the measuring
component of the vertical jump equipment (see diagram 2) and the height reached was recorded.
This process was then repeated a further three times for each participant.
Ethical And Safety Considerations
The primary safety concern during this investigation was injury due to the nature of the
investigation and improper use of the equipment. There was potential for muscle injury during the
phase in which the participant was jumping, and improper use of the equipment could potentially
have caused injury such as concussion. As a precaution, the investigation was conducted in a
location where first aid officers were available and the equipment was placed on a level surface and
the participants were told how to use the equipment.
Participation in this investigation was voluntary, all results were kept anonymous and the

Vertical Farming: The Demand is Rising
Vertical Farming: The Demand is Rising According to an extensive projection research project, the
population of America is expected to increase to approximately 438 million citizens by the year
2050 (Passel). This is a sharp increase in today's population of roughly 315 million. If this projection
is accurate, it looks like our nation is at a high risk of overpopulation. Imagine living in a town
where you can't drink tap water without the risk of contracting numerous illnesses from it. Where
the only food that hasn't been put through countless forms of processing is far beyond your budget.
Where going outside isn't refreshing because the place you live in is so crowded you feel like you're
going to suffocate. This is just a taste of what overpopulation looks like. However, there is a huge
step we can take to prevent dangerously crowded cities. We have a lot of land that is being used for
farming, and this farmland could be renovated into cities. Vertical farming could be the key
improvement to our country's rise in population. In his book The World is Flat, Thomas Friedman
wrote of numerous techniques that the most successful individuals and businesses use to ensure they
remain at the top of the food chain. Using these techniques decrease the likelihood of an individual's
job being outsourced or automated, and help companies stay successful. Vertical farming has great
potential because it requires a vast amount of synthesis between workers, and it applies to

In a competitive market to which Johnson and Johnson operates, the smallest of errors can lead to
consequences which can cut revenue. When large mistakes occur, millions of dollars are lost, and
even worse, there is a loss of customer confidence. Johnson and Johnson has had numerous recalls

and diminished its profits. These recalls have hurt Johnson and Johnson's stocks and cost the

The vertical integration of J&J into health services was a win–win for the company, employers
targeted as customers, and employees (Sarasohn–Kahn, 2008). The expanded growth capability
through acquiring companies in the downstream will continue to help the organization offer more
products and services. The current problem is that with various product offerings the quality and
safety guidelines may have been overlooked. The product recalls have been a result of poor quality
management and errors in the manufacturing process. The key benefits of backward vertical
integration are: more control over the manufacturing of J&J products, advanced technology, and
more trusted industry experience. If J&J has greater control over the upstream (selection of raw

quality goods will be sent to retailers.

which is priced at a competitive rate to attract lower and middle sized veterinarians. The production

Hence, manufacturing department should not interfere in the distribution department, and the latter

Strategic Alternative 2– Backward Integration
Backward integration is a type of vertical integration in which a company takes control over its
suppliers. It is a form of acquisition of the intermediary players involved in supplying the raw
materials used in the production process of the firm. Raw materials, intermediate manufacturing and
assembly are controlled by the firm whereas distribution to the end customer is done by a third party
company. In this way, company increases production efficiency and gains a competitive advantage
by lowering its production cost.
Bergerac can opt for the buy option and implement its backward integration by acquiring
GenieTech. GenieTech can provide the company with eight efficient molding machines for the
acquisition price of $ 5.75 million. The price includes experienced labor force and management.
Bergerac can fulfill its chemical reagent demand by using 4 out of 8 moulds provided in the
acquisition. Rest of the presses can be used in the expansion process or can be used to meet the
demand of a third party. This investment can result in the reduction of overhead expenses by twenty
six percent per unit. Bergerac can pay the amount over a period of five years making the project

Should Businesses Use Aggressive Forms of External Growth...
Should businesses use aggressive forms of external growth (such as takeovers) or should they rely
on less hostile options (such as mergers)? There are two ways a business can expand, internally
(which is also referred to as organic) and externally (which is also referred to as inorganic). In this
report, I'm mainly going to be focusing on external growth. Firstly, what is meant by 'external
growth'? "External Growth is when businesses grow by integrating (joining) with another business."
(Exercise Book) There are also two ways of externally expanding; merging or taking over. "Merging
is when two (or more) businesses reach an agreement to join together and operate as one business. It
tends to be mutually beneficial to both businesses. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reduce redundancies Beneficial to a struggling company by helping it to survive. Making a strong
presence in the domestic markets. Financial Resources Sources: http://kalyan–
city.blogspot.com/2012/08/what–are–advantages–of–mergers.html Once again, "A takeover is when
one business buys another business. This tends to be more hostile as the buying business is the main
one to benefit." There are some advantages you can gain from this. Firstly, likewise to merging,
there can be international growth. "Businesses can make their services or products available globally
by acquiring businesses in various locations internationally. For instance, Belgium brewing
company, InBev took over Budweiser for $52 billion in 2008 in order to expand its presence in the
U.S. market and create one of the largest consumer beverage companies in the world, according to
The Times. Due to the acquisition, profits of the company rose by 11 percent in 2011, according to
France 24." (http://smallbusiness.chron.com/) Another advantage from a takeover that I also
mentioned earlier is Diversifying Products. "One example is Kraft 's 2010 takeover of Cadbury for
$19.5 billion. The acquisition diversified Kraft 's candy line with more than 40 brands, increased
revenue and sales as well as the company 's international presence, especially in

Netball Research Paper
Netball:
At the elite level, netball is a skilled and fast–paced game. It requires the use of the anaerobic
systems that are assisted by the aerobic system during recovery aster short bursts of play (AIS
Sports Nutrition, 2013). The game consists of seven players on court at any one time, that are
limited to a particular court space, depending on their position. The game consists of four, fifteen–
minute quarters with three–minute breaks between the first and second quarter, then again between
the third and four quarters. A five–minute break occurs at half time.
Nature of the Activity:
Netball is predominately a running sport, with multiple short, explosive sprints incorporated to lose
the defending player and receive the ball from the attacking teammates. However, this solely
depends in the position of the player. As players are limited to particular areas of the court, the
activities and the intensity at which they are performed differ.

However, for repeated high intensity runs and jumps throughout a quarter of netball, in which in
movement lasts longer than 10 seconds, the anaerobic glycolysis pathway energy system would be
considered the dominant system. Conversely, for periods of low intensity such as periods between

It can then offer a product as its own brand name at a lower price. Business would find this important as they don't have to rely on suppliers and are less likely to face disruptions. They can avoid labor disputes. Another reason companies would vertically integrate is, so it has economies of scale. This allows the business to produce in bulk for less. (Amadeo, ... This concept can be related to that of spatial scale as mentioned in a previous lecture. It is able to reduce the amount of land needed to farm, yet still feed thousands of people. Not only that but it reduces scale in terms of imports. In Canada, we do not have the outdoor climate year round to produce fresh produce, therefore in the winter months we rely on imports from other countries to meet our demand. With their focus on remaining positioned as just a "baking company," they have acquired and partnered with several different companies to defragment the industry and expand their product lines and capabilities. This paper will explore the current successful strategies that Bimbo is utilizing, the threats that Bimbo is facing, and finally give some recommendations on moving forward as a company. Bimbo has been successful over the past several years due to three main strategic elements: analyzing the external environment, utilizing their best resources, and vertically integrating parts of their supply chain. They have analyzed their external environment through overcoming barriers to entry, utilized their best resources by engaging their human capital and reinvesting in their factories to produce at a higher quality, and vertically integrated the flour mill into their factories to ensure quality control and the protection of proprietary information. Grupo Industrial Bimbo is also facing threats all around. These threats include changing consumption habits, the switch from mom–and–pop stores to large supermarkets, and the competitors in the baking and snacks industry. The consumption habits are a threat because consumers are switching from largely processed, pre–packaged food to healthier, fresher options. The switch from mom–and–pop stores to supermarkets ... • 25. Pros And Disadvantages Of Vertical Farming : Advantages... Introduction Many communities in the northern portion of Canada's provinces and territories do not have access to fresh produce (fruit and vegetables) year–round. Produce shipped to these locations is expensive to transport, especially when items are out of season, and have a shorter shelf life due to additional time spent in transport. Vertical farming is an urban farming technique used to maximize agricultural output in a smaller area than traditional agriculture requires (Crops Review, 2015). Epting (2016) supports the statement by stating that urban farming can yield up to five times the amount of vegetables than traditional faming can using them same amount of land–base. Natural lighting is the cheapest source of lighting, however, depending on the facility natural light may not be sufficient for optimal plant growth and artificial lighting will be necessary. Even though there are drought tolerant plant species, the majority do need regular watering so a water delivery system must also be included in the design. Each system must also include a vertical containment system where the plants will reach mature. To fully mature, plants need to be pollinated. In a controlled environment, like vertical farming, pollination cannot occur naturally unless beehives are part of the facility, so it must be done manually (K, 2011). This can be time consuming and many individuals will be needed to complete pollination to ensure optimal plant growth and development (K, 2011). Both aeroponics and aquaponics can grow the same plants: tomato, eggplant, lettuce, kale, zucchini, herbs, strawberry, and watermelon (Halais, 2015; SF Gate, 2017). One drawback of these systems is that they cannot grow produce that requires underground growth (i.e. carrots, potatoes, beets). Aeroponics Background Plants grown by aeroponics develop and mature on a growth medium (i.e. cloth material made from recycled plastic bottles), without the presence of soil, and misted with water and nutrients (AeroFarms, 2017). Fine Introduction In order to conduct a scientific study, you set a baseline then introduce changes in order to understand the impact of the change. Unfortunately, the rate of change, or clock speed, in many studies (human evolution as an example) is too slow for one person to have time to introduce multiple changes and measure the results. Biologists have found by studying fruit flies (a rapid clock speed with a life span of days rather than years), they can reach conclusions faster by studying multiple life spans in a short amount of time. As with the fruit fly, some businesses also have a rapid cycle making them a prime target for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, if computer buying slows down, the demand for chips drops rapidly creating a large drop for the manufacturers' equipment used in making the component. The author goes on to give solid examples of how and why this effect is in place. The second law – clock speed amplification – is in contrast to the first. As you get closer to the end customer of the supply chain, the clock speed increases (Fine, 1998, p. 97). Computer software serves as a classic example. As computers become more powerful, more feature rich software becomes the expectation. The result is a "race" to provide more features to take advantage of the new power of the latest hardware. The end result is as supply chain design may ultimately be the competitive advantage as much as the product it produces. Supply chain design must now be part of the overall strategy for an organization rather than something that "just happens". Using the supply chain design, market orientation (vertical vs. horizontal) and industry clock speed, specifically fast ones, organizations may find an advantage in their ability to concurrently design products, processes and capabilities (Fine, 1998, p. 127). When companies do not consider supply chain design and engineering as a concurrent activity in product design, they are setting themselves up for future issues. The changes during the Industrial Revolution contributed to the rise of big business because industries wanted to expand their efforts. Industrialization assisted manufacturing industries by making production more mechanized and efficient. Technological innovations due to industrialization caused a rise of factories and employment opportunities in America. The benefits of industrialization did not come easy; sacrifices were made which resulted in unfair conditions for laborers. The rise of big business led to calls for the reform of industry because monopolies were overthrowing other companies, which is unfair for these companies. Industrialization led to the rise of big business, however it resulted in injustice. As companies continued to gain high profits from their industrial endeavors, they wanted to grow bigger and bigger. When companies realized that they were in control of all parts of their business they could make the most profit; this is known as horizontal and vertical integration. John D. Rockefeller, co–founder of the Standard Oil Company, "pursued a strategy that came to be known as horizontal integration, in which a dominant corporation buys or forces out most of its competitors" (Shi and Tindall 632). He grew up poor and worked as a messenger for a local telegraph company until he was noticed by Tom Scott, the president of Pennsylvania Railroad, who later become his mentor and made him the superintendent of his company (Film). With the help of Scott, he later made a fortune in steel company. But, was Andrew Carnegie a hero? Andrew Carnegie was a hero because of his business practices and his philanthropy however he was not a hero because of his relationship with his laborers. One of the reason Andrew Carnegie was a hero is because of his business practices. From 1875– 1888, he drove down the price of the production costs from $65 to $32 which is about 50% (Doc. D). He was also pioneer of vertical integration. He buys the company that has supplies needed for his steel. He owned Frick coke fields and mining company which are use some of the supplies need to make steels. He controlled "the production process from raw material to manufacture and sale of finished product" under the vertical integration (Doc.G). From the 1870's to 1900's, the increased of the steel production in the U.S was about 10,000 tons and ⅓ of it were Andrew Carnegie's production ( Doc. E). Vertical Farming : The Solution For Water Shortage Tanner Gohl Professor Karen Fitts English 101 11/15/16 Vertical Farming: The Solution to Water Shortage "If we do nothing, we shall all surely perish!" You have probably heard this phrase spoken by many a doomsayer and have thought nothing of it. Dismissing it as folly, you content yourself by believing that it is "Simply nonsense!" or more commonly, "It won't happen during my generation." However, this view, when contrasted with our current situation, is detrimental to all of us. While it is understandably difficult to accept the reality of the situation, the truth is that we are digging our own graves. We are on the verge of environmental catastrophe with the nearest one being water and food shortages, in addition to the mass extinction of life caused by rampant pollution. However, it doesn't have to be this way. If we can change ourselves, if we can change our ways of life, we can co–exist with our planet without selfishly destroying it. If we do not do this, there is no denying the truth, "We shall surely perish." Now how can we combat these issues? Well, to do that we must first find the root cause of the issues. While it is understandable that we may think the solution to water shortage is simply to use less of it as the media would lead us to believe, the truth of the matter is that we have plenty of freshwater. However, the water we do have is being polluted and inefficiently used by our current environmentally unfriendly, modern agricultural practices. While hotly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the model itself is often very easy to replicate, technology is essential to creating and enabling novel approaches to business that are defensibly different than rivals and which can be quite difficult for others to copy. The fashion market has changed considerably over the past few decades. Fashion products, which used to be an elite consumption product and now, are mass consumption market, are embodying what has been called "the democratisation process of fashion". In the last years the fashion market has polarized. On the one hand there are producers and retailers of premium products on a high price level offering luxury products. On the other hand the low price young fashion producers, often foreign international operating chains like the Swedish chain H&M (Hennes & Mauritz), the Dutch chain C&A(Clemens and August ), the Spanish chains Mango and Zara or the American chain Gap. Zara stores offer a compelling blend of fashion, quality and price offered in attractive stores in prime locations on premier commercial streets and in upscale shopping centers. The in–house design and production capabilities enable us to offer fresh designs at out Zara stores twice a week throughout the year. Vertical Farm Systems growing cycles are consistent and reliable, allowing commercial growers to confidently commit to delivery schedules and supply contracts. In a well–managed Vertical Farm System, there are no such thing as 'seasonal crops ' and there are no crop losses. Vertical Farm Systems are fully enclosed and climate controlled, completely removing external environment factors such as disease, pest or predator attacks. It also means our farms are not dependent on fertile arable land and can be established in any climatic region globally irrespective of seasonal daylight hours and extremes in temperature. The use of high efficiency LED lighting technology ensures minimum power usage for maximum plant growth. There are two types of springboards used in vaulting the traditional springboard and the air board. Based on research the hypothesis states that if a gymnast jumps on an air board then the height off the board will be higher than if jumping on a traditional springboard. To begin with, the vault has been in the Olympics for men since 1896 and for women since 1952. The vault requires a gymnast to run down a runway, jump on a springboard, and flip over the vault table. Later on, Korea and Taiwan experienced strong economic growth; as a result, Nike ended up relocating in Thailand, China, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam (low cost countries). With this supplier development, Coca–cola ensures that their supplier will be able to bring them what they need and that their suppliers can offer competitive market pricing. Coca–Cola does a full analysis of the company 's current business practices and then works with them to develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP). The IDP outlines objectives, action items, timelines and milestones to ensure the supplier is on track. It also educates their supplier where they need to be heading for their own growth and ensures their continued partnership with Coca–Cola. Looking at Appendix A and B you can see that Coca–Cola's suppliers and supply chain reaches towards all areas of the product and continues past the purchase of the product by the customer, because Coca– Cola is such a large brand and working on environmental areas of the company are part their supply development plan they need to create continual growth with a full circle approach. Recycle, reprocess, recover, and reuse are integral parts of the IDP when created between Coca–Cola and their individual suppliers. • 67. The Length And Vertical Jump Test Introduction A vertical jump test is used, both by athletes and the general public, to determine a variety of functional actions. For example, it is commonly used to determine the development of elastic leg strength (Mackenzie, B., 2007), jumping ability and it may even be used to asses recovery prior to or post–training (Baggett, K., 2004). In this investigation, the vertical jump test is being used to determine whether there is any correlation between leg length and vertical jump height. The vertical jump, sometimes known as the Sargent jump test, can either be performed from standing as is in this investigation, or as a running vertical jump test which allows a run up prior to the jump. To perform a vertical jump, there is both hip and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, using the tape measure, the length of the leg was measured from the hip to the heel of the foot. The length of the leg was then recorded. The participant raised their hand and the vertical leap test equipment was adjusted accordingly. The participant then jumped and hit the measuring component of the vertical jump equipment (see diagram 2) and the height reached was recorded. This process was then repeated a further three times for each participant. Ethical And Safety Considerations The primary safety concern during this investigation was injury due to the nature of the investigation and improper use of the equipment. There was potential for muscle injury during the phase in which the participant was jumping, and improper use of the equipment could potentially have caused injury such as concussion. As a precaution, the investigation was conducted in a location where first aid officers were available and the equipment was placed on a level surface and the participants were told how to use the equipment. Participation in this investigation was voluntary, all results were kept anonymous and the participants had the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Vertical Farming: The Demand is Rising Vertical Farming: The Demand is Rising According to an extensive projection research project, the population of America is expected to increase to approximately 438 million citizens by the year 2050 (Passel). This is a sharp increase in today's population of roughly 315 million. If this projection is accurate, it looks like our nation is at a high risk of overpopulation. Imagine living in a town where you can't drink tap water without the risk of contracting numerous illnesses from it. Where the only food that hasn't been put through countless forms of processing is far beyond your budget. Where going outside isn't refreshing because the place you live in is so crowded you feel like you're going to suffocate. This is just a taste of what overpopulation looks like. However, there is a huge step we can take to prevent dangerously crowded cities. We have a lot of land that is being used for farming, and this farmland could be renovated into cities. Vertical farming could be the key improvement to our country's rise in population. In his book The World is Flat, Thomas Friedman wrote of numerous techniques that the most successful individuals and businesses use to ensure they remain at the top of the food chain. Using these techniques decrease the likelihood of an individual's job being outsourced or automated, and help companies stay successful. Vertical farming has great potential because it requires a vast amount of synthesis between workers, and it applies to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vertical Integration at Johnson & Johnson Johnson & Johnson: Planning Vertical Integration Team Synergy April 4, 2011 In a competitive market to which Johnson and Johnson operates, the smallest of errors can lead to consequences which can cut revenue. When large mistakes occur, millions of dollars are lost, and even worse, there is a loss of customer confidence. Johnson and Johnson has had numerous recalls in their consumer healthcare division recently, which rocked the organization's once sound image, and diminished its profits. These recalls have hurt Johnson and Johnson's stocks and cost the company about $900 million in sales last year (Rockoff, 2011). Opportunity For Johnson and Johnson to continue being an industry leader, change is needed. An overhaul of the company's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The vertical integration of J&J into health services was a win–win for the company, employers targeted as customers, and employees (Sarasohn–Kahn, 2008). The expanded growth capability through acquiring companies in the downstream will continue to help the organization offer more products and services. The current problem is that with various product offerings the quality and safety guidelines may have been overlooked. The product recalls have been a result of poor quality management and errors in the manufacturing process. The key benefits of backward vertical integration are: more control over the manufacturing of J&J products, advanced technology, and more trusted industry experience. If J&J has greater control over the upstream (selection of raw materials, production, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution) then greater stability and higher quality goods will be sent to retailers. Implementing Solutions In order for Johnson & Johnson to achieve success in its vertical integration process, they need to create a new position under CEO, William Weldon to manage the Signature of Quality Committee members (SOQ) and to oversee the full supply chain processes. This role will be known as the Senior Director of Quality. Within the next 30 days, a Cross functional team made up of the CEO, the Vice President of HR, and Ajit Shetty (in charge of operations for J&J pharmaceuticals, medical device and consumer segments) ... Bergerac is a company producing equipments used for testing pet patients in the veterinarian clinics. Omnivue is one of the most successful equipments produced by the company, which is priced at a competitive rate to attract lower and middle sized veterinarians. Hence, manufacturing department should not interfere in the distribution department, and the latter should be experienced in distribution of products like Omnivue to the end customers. Strategic Alternative 2– Backward Integration Backward integration is a type of vertical integration in which a company takes control over its suppliers. It is a form of acquisition of the intermediary players involved in supplying the raw materials used in the production process of the firm. Raw materials, intermediate manufacturing and assembly are controlled by the firm whereas distribution to the end customer is done by a third party company. In this way, company increases production efficiency and gains a competitive advantage by lowering its production cost. Bergerac can opt for the buy option and implement its backward integration by acquiring GenieTech. GenieTech can provide the company with eight efficient molding machines for the acquisition price of $ 5.75 million. The price includes experienced labor force and management. Bergerac can fulfill its chemical reagent demand by using 4 out of 8 moulds provided in the acquisition. Rest of the presses can be used in the expansion process or can be used to meet the demand of a third party. This investment can result in the reduction of overhead expenses by twenty six percent per unit. Bergerac can pay the amount over a period of five years making the project ... • 75. Should Businesses Use Aggressive Forms of External Growth... Should businesses use aggressive forms of external growth (such as takeovers) or should they rely on less hostile options (such as mergers)? There are two ways a business can expand, internally (which is also referred to as organic) and externally (which is also referred to as inorganic). In this report, I'm mainly going to be focusing on external growth. Firstly, what is meant by 'external growth'? "External Growth is when businesses grow by integrating (joining) with another business." (Exercise Book) There are also two ways of externally expanding; merging or taking over. "Merging is when two (or more) businesses reach an agreement to join together and operate as one business. It tends to be mutually beneficial to both businesses. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other Advantages of Mergers Increasing the confidence of the shareholders of the merged company. Reduce redundancies Beneficial to a struggling company by helping it to survive. Making a strong presence in the domestic markets. Financial Resources Sources: http://kalyan– city.blogspot.com/2012/08/what–are–advantages–of–mergers.html Once again, "A takeover is when one business buys another business. This tends to be more hostile as the buying business is the main one to benefit." There are some advantages you can gain from this. Firstly, likewise to merging, there can be international growth. "Businesses can make their services or products available globally by acquiring businesses in various locations internationally. For instance, Belgium brewing company, InBev took over Budweiser for $52 billion in 2008 in order to expand its presence in the U.S. market and create one of the largest consumer beverage companies in the world, according to The Times. Due to the acquisition, profits of the company rose by 11 percent in 2011, according to France 24." (http://smallbusiness.chron.com/) Another advantage from a takeover that I also mentioned earlier is Diversifying Products. "One example is Kraft 's 2010 takeover of Cadbury for $19.5 billion. The acquisition diversified Kraft 's candy line with more than 40 brands, increased revenue and sales as well as the company 's international presence, especially in ... • 77. Netball Research Paper Netball: At the elite level, netball is a skilled and fast–paced game. It requires the use of the anaerobic systems that are assisted by the aerobic system during recovery aster short bursts of play (AIS Sports Nutrition, 2013). The game consists of seven players on court at any one time, that are limited to a particular court space, depending on their position. The game consists of four, fifteen– minute quarters with three–minute breaks between the first and second quarter, then again between the third and four quarters. A five–minute break occurs at half time. Nature of the Activity: Netball is predominately a running sport, with multiple short, explosive sprints incorporated to lose the defending player and receive the ball from the attacking teammates. However, this solely depends in the position of the player. As players are limited to particular areas of the court, the activities and the intensity at which they are performed differ. Athletes that are predominately in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept is otherwise known as interplay, where one energy system is dominant to the other systems depending on the intensity and duration of the activity. When considering netball, athletes may engage in short duration of high intensity efforts in which the ATP–CP system would be the dominant energy system due to fast rate of ATP production as well as the short period of movement. However, for repeated high intensity runs and jumps throughout a quarter of netball, in which in movement lasts longer than 10 seconds, the anaerobic glycolysis pathway energy system would be considered the dominant system. Conversely, for periods of low intensity such as periods between points or whilst the ball is away from the player the aerobic energy system would be dominant and is an essential part of removal of lactic acid in the muscle and repairing the creatine phosphate ...
