Liceul Teoretic Tudor Arghezi
1. SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
“Tudor Arghezi” high school is situated in the city of Craiova, in the
south-western part of Romania. The school is situated in the north part of
Craiova; we have a total of 1297 students and 84 teachers. The age of our
students ranges between 7 and 19 years old. Our school provides primary
(24%), secondary (26%) and high school classes (50%), but 11% of them
are students enrolled at the Maximum Security Penitentiary who present a
high risk of social exclusion; they are aged and have learning difficulties. In
school there are specializations: literature, social sciences, mathematics and
computer science and natural sciences. Every year about 60 students pass
an examination for a professional certificate in computer science. The
Informatics department consists of three teachers, we have a psychological
department and four graduates of the Faculty of Psychology who collaborate
for counseling and guiding our students.
In the Tudor Arghezi Theoretical High school in Craiova, counseling is
done both individually and in groups by a counseling teacher, who spends a
total number of 14 hours a week in her specialized office. During this
project, she applied questionnaires to secondary school students, and she
counseled the 8th
graders in choosing their specialties and high schools.

Conclusions of the study
Most of the 112 students at the “Tudor Arghezi” Theoretical High School
who filled in the questionnaire would choose the theoretical branch (83%). 32% of
them prefer Informatics, and their options for the other specialties mentioned in
the questionnaire are:
- Automotive: 25%,
- Electrical equipment: 19%,
- Trade and services: 16%,
- Textiles: 11%.
As for their appreciation of the high schools in town, 33% of the responding
students think that Tudor Arghezi is a very competitive school.
63% of the responding students are interested in having career tests
applied.

According to the activity plan designed for this project, a number of 6 students who chose
mathematics and informatics out of the total number of 45 students were selected for further study
Two of them admitted that they were directly influenced by their family tradition in choosing their
job, in the sense that they intend to train for the jobs that some of their relatives already have.

After having been informed of the high schools and specialties in the county of Dolj, the students
were counseled as for what high school to choose, by filling in the above grid. The students chose 3 of
the high schools presented above and ranked them according to each criterion in the grid, depending on
how much the respective high school met the respective criteria. They gave points to each option,
added them, and used the resulting numbers to reach the final result in terms of high school and
specialty.

In the case of 3 students the highest number of points was awarded to the Carol I National College,
the second in ranking was the Fratii Buzesti National College, while 1 of the 6 students chose the Tudor
Arghezi Theoretical High school.
5.Description of the chosen profession: necessary skills and educational path.
Each student filled in their career plan with information regarding their chosen profession,
with mentions of the necessary skills, the specifics of the respective activity and the educational
path that needs to be taken in order to specialize in the respective profession.
