Notes de l'éditeur
A lot of graduates have shown interest in library work and about 3 have gone onto study for PG qualifications, mainly at John Moores Local Welsh Assembly member received a letter from one of our graduates about the lack of provision in this area GU has been involved with FDs since their national inception in 2002 we run over 25 in many diff subjects SMT and School of Computing support GaLW – gateways to libraries in Wrexham; our regional co-operative scheme. Good links with local FE and public libraries We also currently have 2 volunteers Aiming for CILIP accreditation after one cohort has been through the course CILIP’s Framework of Qualification report due? This will show where FDs sit
Will mention current students a little bit later on All intents and purposes a professional but lacks a qualification – some have degrees but all are working in libraries Want to go onto the next step
Meetings and discussions were held across all sectors Are we covering the right subjects at the right depth and level Distinctive delivery model Library 2.0 combined with traditional skills – cat and class (DDC) = web 2.0 (metadata)
4 themes – information, traditional library skills, customer relationship and information / knowledge management (LLUK 2007 employers survey about skills gaps in the profession) Assignments – relevant to their workplace and hopefully of benefit to both the student and employer 120 credits at level 4 and 5 30 credits = 300 hours = 30 hours of face to face contact (1 week) Group presentations / group poster session
Induction, intro to the course, IL, different types of sources, accessing and evaluating information Looking at libraries in different sectors, library organisation CILIP, JISC Customer rel skills – focus groups, surveys, different types of customers Also collection development
Web 2.0 in a library context Digital literacy and digital copyright Plan, prepare and organise a library event; set up a reading group Developing confidence to manage and supervise
Lots of interest 12 signed up Good mixture – some degrees, some ECDL 9 from Wales and 3 from England 4 HE (one of those work in the Careers Service) 5 public libraries 3 FE Keen to take the next step Lots of interest for 2010
