The Wider Horizons Programme was established in 1986 by the International Fund for Ireland to foster mutual understanding and improve employability among unemployed young people in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland. The program involves cross-community and cross-border partnerships, accredited training, overseas work experience, and support upon returning home. Over 17,000 people have participated in the program, with 71% finding employment or entering further training after completing it. Participant evaluations show that the program has significantly improved understanding and opportunities for those who have taken part.
