Learning
Chelsey Voorhis
What is it?
Includes options, flexibility, and alternatives in the
curriculum
Keeps all students appropriately challenged
Helps all students succeed, regardless if they are gifted or
struggling
Result: less students have “disabilities” and more students
are successful
Principle 1: Provide multiple
means of representation
Students should be able to perceive the information
Students should be able to understand the language
Options for comprehension should be provided
**Students need to be able to turn the instruction into
usable knowledge
Principle 2: Provide multiple
means of action and expression
Students should have the option for physical
involvement
Students should have the chance to display their
expressive skills and fluency
Options for executive functions should be provided so
every student can express what he/she knows
Principle 3: Provide multiple
means of engagement
Students should become interested in learning
Options should be given to keep students’ interest and
persistence
Students should be provided with options for self-regulation so
students can be motivated by their goals
**Students differ in what engages them personally, so options
should be provided so all students can be interested
