8. Getting Windows 10
There are three ways to obtain Windows 10
– buy a new PC with Windows 10 preloaded,
– buy a license key to Windows 10 online,
– or upgrade an existing Windows 8.1 or Windows 7
PC.
If you have a legitimate version of Windows 7 ,
Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, Microsoft is giving a
free upgrade if you upgrade before July 29 2016
If you upgrade, your Windows 7 or 8 will
disappear.
If you want to keep your old system and install
Windows 10, it will cost $119 for Windows 10
Home and $199 for Windows 10 Pro

Before you do anything, we’re going to give you
our standard advice: back up your data
If you own a qualifying Windows PC, you had
the option of “reserving” a free copy of
Windows 10. At some point, Microsoft will
invite you to begin the upgrade process

Creation Tool

Microsoft has changed the “activation
process” for Windows with Windows 10.
(Digital Entitlement or Product Key)
After installation of Windows 10, Microsoft
will remember the details and no further
activation codes will be required.
Starting with the November update, Windows
10 can be activated using some Windows 7, 8
or 8.1 Product Keys

To make life easier on Windows 7 and 8.1 converts,
Microsoft will allow you to rollback your Windows
10 installation to the previous operating system for
30 days post-upgrade.

This will not work if you have done a “clean install”
of Windows 10
You can still re-upgrade to Window 10 until July
29, 2016

Open the Start menu, select the Settings app, and go
to Update & Security > Recovery.

If you want to keep your old Windows
version, you may continually get Microsoft
messages to upgrade.

Microsoft has set a goal of having Windows
10 on a billion devices within three years.
Gossip says that “in January, Microsoft will
make installing Windows 10 a
“recommended update”.
If true, Windows 10 will automatically

In Windows 10, you say goodbye to
Windows Media Center and with it, the
ability to play DVDs
Windows DVD Player. $14.99 and it does
not work perfectly
Better solution. Download VLC from
VideoLan. Once your DVD inserted, click
on Media > Open Disc then just sit back and
enjoy your DVDs.

All updates are automatically
downloaded to your machine and then
scheduled to install when your PC is idle.
Microsoft will let you decide when your
system actually restarts to install the
updates.

Some Recommendations
If you are happy with Windows 7, your
programs work and you don’t want the
hassle of a new Operating System, stay
with Windows 7. It will be maintained until
2020
If you use Windows 8 or 8.1, Windows 10
is better. I recommend that you upgrade to
Windows 10.
