Filipino and foreign chemist
1. FILIPINO AND FOREIGN CHEMIST
Julian Banzon
Julian Banzon - Filipino Chemist:
Filipino chemist, Julian Banzon researched methodsof producing
alternative fuels. Julian Banzon experimented with the production of
ethylesters fuels from sugarcane and coconut, and invented a
means of extracting residualcoconut oil by a chemical process rather
than a physical process
Francisco Santos
Filipino agricultural chemist, Doctor Francisco Santos
studied the nutritive values and chemical composition of
local foods from the Philippines. His data was used to help
detect and solve problems with Filipino diets.
Lourdes Cruz
Doctor Lourdes Cruz has made scientific contributions to
the biochemistry field of conotoxins, in particular the
toxins of the venom of the marine snail Conus geographus.
Lourdes Cruz documented the biochemical characterization
of the homologous highly toxic monomeric peptides with
internal disulfide bonds including: Conotoxin GI, Conotoxin
GIA and Conotoxin GII. Lourdes Cruz has helped develop
conotoxins for the purpose biochemical probes for
examining the activities of the human brain.
2. charles Goodyear
Was the first to vulcanize rubber, a process which he discoveredin
1839 and patented on June 15, 1844. Although Goodyear is often
credited with its invention, modern evidence hasproven that the
Mesoamericans used stabilized rubber for balls and other objects as
early as 1600 BC.
Goodyear discovered the vulcanization process accidentally after five
years of searching for a more stable rubber
Arnold Johannes Wilhelm Sommerfeld
(5 December 1868 – 26 April 1951) was
aGermantheoreticalphysicistwhopioneered developments
inatomicandquantum physics, and also educated and groomed
a large number of students for the new era oftheoretical physics. He
introduced thefine-structure constantintoquantum mechanics
Dr. Quirino O. Navarro
,
a Filipino chemist born March 29 1936, graduated with a
degree in Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the
University of the Philippines in 1956, He recieved his Ph.D.
in Nuclear Chemistry at the University of California in
1962. Dr. Navarro's significant contribution to science is
the determination of nuclear properties in the isotopes of
californium, einsteinium and dysprosium using cryogenic
techniques. Hisfindings were cited in two books and three
international tomes of nuclear science and later confirmed
at theUniversity of California at Berkeley with the use of
advanced instrumentation. Dr. Navarro has also worked
onneutron spectrometry and crystallography; and
electronics and instrumentation process.
3. JOSE O.JULIANO
Dr. Jose O. Juliano is a famous Filipino scientist, born on October 16th
1932, and most famous for hisresearch into nuclear chemistry and
physics. He received a TONYM award for his involvements in thisfield
in 1959. He is also an affiliate of the American Nuclear Society,
American Physical Society and theAmerican Chemical
Society.Through his contributions a better understanding of nuclear
science has come about. He has published aremarkable fifty print
research works, and a one of the most notable examples is 'Rapid and
Non-destructive Analysis of Sulfur and Calcium by Radio activation
and Photo neutron Counting andDisintegration of Iron-52 and Iron-

JOHN DALTON
john Dalton (1766-1844), English chemist and
physicist,(1793), developed atomic theory. His theory
(1805) accounts for the law of conservation of mass, law
of definite proportions, and law of multiple proportions, he
also reduced the first table of atomic weights
LUIS FEDERICO LELOIR
Luis Federico Leloir (1906-1987), Argentine
biochemist and winner of the 1970 Nobel
Prize for research into sugar nucleotides,
metabolism of carbohydrates, and renal
hypertension
