KAMEHAMEHA I --- The Passenger and Cargo Interisland Ferry for Hawai`i
1. KAMEHAMEHA I
KAMEHAMEHA I is a development to provide a Passenger – Cargo
Interisland Ferry for Hawai`i.
Several able, willing, qualified investors and banking groups have
presented their financial portfolios for consideration. Financially, a
Passenger – Cargo Interisland Ferry for Hawai`i is achievable and
will yield higher than market rates of return for their investment.
In-depth and detailed research, due diligence and investigation
Mandates that the Passenger – Cargo Interisland Ferry Project be
Terminated for the well-being and future of the State of Hawai`i, the
people and businesses of Hawai`i and all who love the pristine,
wondrously captivating beauty of this place called Hawai`i.
The guiding principle for KAMEHAMEHA I is environmental
stewardship. The Hawaiian core value of kuleana is a personal
responsibility and privilege of stewardship, environmental
awareness and activism conferred onto each and everyone with the
express expectation that we do our very best to preserve, protect and
maintain the `āina - the precious and priceless resources of the land,
rivers, streams, forests, watersheds, air, ocean, and the bounty nature
has blessed us for today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
The specific reason for the decision to terminate development of the
Passenger – Cargo Interisland Ferry for Hawai`i is our unequivocal
Pledge and Commitment, specifically,
2. ALIEN INVASIVE SPECIES - ALIEN SPECIES
The introduction and transportation of alien invasive species
and alien species to and within the Hawaiian Islands poses an
identified and continuing biosecurity risk and threat.
To implement the latest strategies and operational methods to
minimize the introduction and carriage of alien invasive species
and alien species, our Alien Species Prevention Team will work
with Federal, State and local agencies and citizen groups.
To the extent feasible a holistic outcome will be implemented.

The Passenger – Cargo Interisland Ferry can provide to
residents and visitors an alternative to travel by air, the convenience
of having their own vehicles available upon arrival at their
destinations, and for business a faster means of getting their products
to market.
Three airlines provide regularly scheduled interisland air
service, Island Air, Mokulele Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
Four maritime shippers provide regularly scheduled direct and
transshipment of cargo within the State of Hawai`i Port System –
Matson Navigation, Horizon Lines, Young Brothers, Pasha Hawai`i.
3. Published tariff rates are available for regularly scheduled
direct and/or transshipment of cargo within Hawai`i by Matson
Navigation, Horizon Lines, Young Brothers, and Pasha Hawai`i.
Tariff rates for interisland shipping are within the jurisdiction
and authority of the Hawai`i Public Utilities Commission. The past
and current exercise and enforcement of regulatory and rate making
jurisdiction and authority by the Hawai`i Public Utilities Commission
has created the vacuum and void, negatively and adversely
impacting, on businesses seeking revenue and cost justified shipping
rates that will allow them to compete in the market place.
The conveniences and the maritime travel experience offered by
the Passenger – Cargo Interisland Ferry are outweighed in priority
and significance by becoming a major contributing cause for wider
spreading of irreversible harm, damage and devastation to Hawaii’s
ranches, agricultural farms, export industry and Hawaii’s natural
environment , our island showcase for visitors and residents.

THE HAWAI`I INVASIVE SPECIES COUNCIL
HAWAII’S UNIQUE BIOSECURITY NEEDS
“Naio thrips or Myoporum thrips (Klambothrips myopori) was
first detected in Waikoloa, Hawaii in 2008 attacking the native
Myoporum sandwicense, locally known as naio. Distribution of naio
thrips in the State is currently restricted to the Hawaii Island, where
the pest is causing extensive dieback and mortality of naio plants
across a range of habitats.
4. Given the frequency of inter-island transport of goods and people,
and the precedence of pest range expansions, this species is likely
to spread beyond the Hawaii Island. Naio is distributed across all of
the main Hawaiian Islands, and is present from sea-level to 3000m …
The purpose of developing early detection and rapid response plans
for naio thrips on Kauai, Maui and Molokai is to provide
organization and facilitate cooperation between relevant resource
management agencies and collaborators in the event that naio thrips
are detected outside of Hawaii Island. The movement of this pest
species will result in a significant biological and structural loss to
native habitats, as well as ornamental plantings. Developing and
implementing island-specific early detection and rapid response
plans increases the likelihood of early detection and successful
eradication of this damaging pest species. A plan recently developed
for the island of Oahu will serve as a model for other islands.”

“The Little Fire Ant is currently found on the Hawaiian
islands: Hawaii, Maui and Kauai. The Red Imported Fire Ant
(present in 13 US states) has a multi-billion dollar annual impact.
It is present in every US state where climatic conditions favor
development, except Hawaii. It is also an established in major
international trading partners (China, Taiwan and Australia).
Additional species of quarantine concern include the black Carpenter
Ant (Camponotus pennsylvanicus) and the Hairy Crazy Ant (Nylanderia
fulvus). A recent arrival (Tapinoma sessile) has been detected in Maui
and threatens neighbor islands.” [Emphasis Supplied]
“Myrtatceae rust (Puccinia psidii), also known locally as ohia
rust and in other parts of the world as eucalyptus rust, was first
detected in Hawai‘i in 2005 on a ohia seedling in a nursery on Oahu.
5. The rust quickly spread throughout the state and has been
found infecting over 30 hosts in the Myrtaceae family, including
several native species. The primary concern with this disease has
been the potential impacts to ohia, which is only minimally
susceptible in forest settings thus far. However, the introduction of
additional disease strains could be very damaging to ohia forests.
Due to this threat, action is being taken by state and federal
quarantine agencies to prevent importation of infected plant
material.” [Emphasis Supplied]
“Kauai Invasive Species Committee (KISC) continues to work
on goals outlined by the HISC Established Pests Working Group.
Priority is given to early detection, response, and control of various
plants, vertebrates, and insect targets. KISC’s top priority species
include miconia, mongoose, little fire ant, and coqui frog, as well as
other newly introduced plant species.” [Emphasis Supplied]
“Big Island Invasive Species Committee / US Forest Service.
With support of a legislative resolution an established stakeholder
coalition will remove invasive albizia trees threatening homes,
infrastructure, and native forest and contribute to development of a
strategic plan. The project will engage highway & power line
workers, real estate developers & homeowners associations to adopt
BMPs rather than the current costly and counter-productive attempts
at control.” [Emphasis Supplied]
“Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB), an invasive pest, was
detected Dec. 23, 2013 at Joint Base Pearl Harbor – Hickam on
coconut trees. A joint effort between USDA, UH at Manoa, U.S.
Navy, HDOA and other partners has mobilized and an Incident
Command System (ICS) has been established to respond to this pest
emergency.” [Emphasis Supplied]

If just for a day our king and queen
Would visit all these islands and saw everything
How would they feel about the changes of our land
Could you just imagine if they were around
And saw highways on their sacred grounds
7. How would they feel abouth this modern city life
Tears would come from each others eyes
As they would stop to realize
That our people are in great great danger now
How would they feel, could their smiles be content, then
cry
All the fighting that the king had done
To conquer all these islands now these condominiums
How would he feel if he saw Hawaii nei
How would he feel, would his smile be content, then cry
