A Self-Publisher's Guide To Computer Data Back-Up
Are you looking to find the best system to back up your home computer? The above points should
help you maintain your data backups safe and secure. Click the Backup files button under Back up
files or your entire computer.
Backing up your data should be an essential part of your daily routine. Unfortunately for many
businesses this simply isn't the case. The only time data backup crosses their mind is when they
have a hard disk crash or a serious spyware or virus infection. Unfortunately by this stage it's
already too late to do anything about it - the data is gone and you're then looking at several hundred,
if not several thousand, dollars to have the data rescued and restored.
Although you may not lose all your data during a crash, many of your files could become corrupt.
Without having a data backup, these files would be totally lost. In the event you did indeed lose some
valuable files or documents, and if you had a backup, you could just go to your hard drive backup
and restore the files.
Many people take their work with them on laptops, smartphones or tablets but it's difficult to get all
your files onto those devices to work with them. Having an online backup solution allows you to
access all your files when you need them. You can also work on a file when you're mobile and then
sync that file so it updates on all your devices that need that file.
Most companies rely on either DVD, external hard disk or tape drive data backup companies locally.
These provide fast, cost effective storage for most small companies and are also very easy for even
the IT novice to operate. In the case of any data being lost it's simply a matter of restoring the data
from a previous backup point and the user can then continue working.
The typical life span for a hard drive is 3 to 5 years. And they are inexpensive enough to be replaced
before they fail. For less than $50, you can get a drive that will hold all your pictures, documents
and everything else. Replacing them on a routine basis before there is a problem means you won't
have to go through the stress of trying to get your files back when your drive fails.
Backing up every day before closing the business is the best way to have all your data back in place
after a disaster. Backing up can be done on CD, DVD or hard disk all of which will cost you some
money considering you will have to do it every day. If you have an online backup service, it will be
mush economical and easy. Just upload the file on the net and they locked in safe place.
Your data will be stored in an encrypted format when it is backed up to the cloud at the storage
company, which should prevent a hacker from easily accessing your information. If you require a
greater level of security, you can use your own private encryption key to further reduce possible
exposure to data intrusion. The likelihood of a server like Apple's, or Amazon's, or Google's going
down is far less than the possibility that your own hard drive or local backup will fail.
Are there multiple locations for data storage? - Many online backup services have more than one
physical locations in case there is a disruption at one.
There are also options to set an automatic data back-up too. If prompted, type your administrator
password and click Continue. Believing "Oh I will do it next month" is at some point going to be one
month too late.
