The St. Lawrence Corridor Economic Development Commission Annual Report 2020 highlights our regional economic development strategy, progress and activities. Its purpose is to communicate and share our efforts and mandate with the respective member municipal councils and the broader community. Completing the report puts this tumultuous year in perspective and clarifies the importance of our renewed strategy and focus on creating jobs and regional prosperity. It also testifies to our resilience as a community. I am certainly grateful for the time, energy and commitment to our commission's Board of Directors.

St. Lawrence Corridor Annual Report 2020
1. Message from the Commissioner
2020 was a challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic
forcing us to work remotely since March. Nevertheless, we
maintained a “business-as-usual” approach, and our virtual
and digital efforts continued to attract new investment and
helped local companies grow. We managed 26 ongoing
clients and supported the creation of 29 jobs. Moreover, 2021
has more than $127 million in investment and 396 jobs in the
pipeline.
Overall, we had a very successful year. We created a
Regional Industrial Leadership Team which collaborated
to develop new regional supply chain connections and
fostered new business to business relationships. Likewise,
we supported regional firms by finding access to capital
through government grants and subsidies. Our digital
marketing efforts have focused on attraction activities and
our campaigns have set new records for organic traffic
and total views. 2020 was a challenging year, but the work
of rebuilding our regional economy has never been more
important. The SLCEDC is confident that we have built the
foundation for a successful 2021. Doubling down on our
strategy - through regional collaboration - will be critical to
driving recovery.

The year 2020 will long be written as the most disruptive health and an economic year in multi-generational memory. The
COVID-19 health crisis sparked a response across all facets of the economy that will forever change the way we do business.
The Work-From-Home trend recognized during the past decade became the normal way of doing business and Zoom became
part of our meeting vernacular. On the commercial and industrial side of the economy, we saw extreme opportunities and
crisesoftenonthesameday. AttheSt.LawrenceCorridorEconomicDevelopmentCommission,ourroleistoidentifyandfocus
on the opportunities as they are presented. As a board, in the short term, we needed to focus our organizational energy on the
sustainability of our existing employers. We pivoted in the early spring of 2020 to provide advice and counsel to companies in
our region. At the same time we recognized that global supply chains were dramatically and negatively impacted with goods
stuck in ports across the globe. The identification that supply chains must shrink and reform to be as local and controllable
as possible prompted the formation of an industrial leadership team. This group represents the employment of over 2,500
individuals and over $1B in revenue. Our team of industry leaders continues to find opportunities to reform their collective
supply chains and maximize the procurement from local sources.
2020 was a year of crisis and a year of opportunity. We are entering 2021 with vaccines on the way and greater certainty in the
marketplace. The crisis will remain for the majority of this year and the opportunities will be present for those that are both
observant and swift.
