In 1994, her daughter, Stacy became pregnant at 17 years-old, she was an honor student and a girl who loved the Lord. This was a devastating time for Rhoden family.
Stacy Rhoden considered abortion, but knew she could never go through with it. Stacy’s boyfriend stayed dedicated to her after he was informed about the pregnancy. It only took the couple one intimate encounter for Stacy to get pregnant.
The new baby girl, Alison was born September of Stacy senior year of high school. Stacy and her boyfriend were married in July of 1995. The couple had to live with Wanda in order to continue their education.
Wanda Rhoden wanted Stacy and her boyfriend to learn how to become a family on her own so she searched for ways to stay out of the house. Wanda discovered PSS through a friend, after experiencing an unplanned pregnancy with her daughter she decided to volunteer as a client counselor.
“Executive Director Mimi Every wanted me to work for PSS. We talked and prayed for the right decision to be made. I volunteered and then I went into fulltime ministry,” said Rhoden
While working with the PSS ministry two, of Wanda’s nieces still in high school got pregnant and one of the girl’s parents had decided they were not helping with the pregnancy. Rhoden counseled both girls through their pregnancy. She became a substitute grandma by allowing the young girl without parental support to come live with her.
It was evident to Rhoden that being involved in the PSS ministry had come full circle within her family and she has been there 12 years. According to Wanda Rhoden, while giving her testimony at the banquet she had a great deal of compassion for the audience because of abortion many of them did not experience the blessing of granddaughter. She shared that all her family is serving God now and her daughter, Stacy is a youth worker with her husband (father in unplanned pregnancy).
Biography
The banquet’s guest speaker William Graham Tullian Tchividjian is a Florida native and senior pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Tchividjian and his wife have three children together.
Tchividjian is a visiting professor at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and is the grandson of Ruth and Billy Graham. The speaker may not be familiar to you, but I will be surprised if, in the next few years, he doesn’t become a forceful Christian voice in this increasingly post modern culture.
In March 2009, Tchividjian was called to lead Coral Ridge, resulting in a merger with New City Council, which he founded in 2003. He is only the second pastor in Coral Ridge history.
Tchividjian was brought up going to Coral Ridge with his parents, but at age 16 he abandoned his home and family values to live in the sin saturated area of southern Florida. At 21 God made his presence known and in the end saved Tchividjian from his selfish desires.
Tchividjian turned his life around and had a new passion to serve the Lord. He is now the author of three books, the most recent, “Unfashionable.” In this book Tchividjian describes that God calls the body of Christ to lay down their lives for those who hurt or hate us, to serve instead of be served, to seek last place instead of first, to be unfashionable. He continues to dedicate his life to his ministry with his wife in Flordia.
