2.
Man’s relationship with God, the Father, the Holy
One – Eloyhim--began at the beginning— in Genesis!
This relationship is illustrated in the Old Testament
by the Theophany-(Greek)- the visible manifestation
of God to man.
3. God Created Man
Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God created
the heaven and the earth.” (KJV)
Gen. 1:26: “And God said, “Let US make
man in our image after our likeness…”
(KJV)
4. God Created Man
Gen. 1:27: “So God created man in His
own image, in the image of God created He
him: male and female created He them.”
(KJV)… “and man became a living soul.” Gen.
2: 7 (KJV)
5. The Serpent Challenges God’s Commands
Gen. 3:1 “Now the serpent was more subtle than
any beast of the field which the LORD God had
made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God
said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
Gen. 3:2: … “We may eat of the fruit of the trees
of the garden:
6. The Serpent Challenges God Commands
Gen. 3:3: “But of the fruit of the tree which is in
the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall
not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”
(KJV)
Gen. 3: 4: “And the serpent said unto the woman,
Ye shall not surely die:” (KJV)
7. Eve is Beguiled by the Serpent
Gen. 3:5: “For God doth know that in the day ye
eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye
shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (KJV)
8. Eve is Beguiled by the Serpent
Gen. 3:6: Eve allowed the serpent to beguile her
and she ate the fruit of the “The Tree of the
Knowledge of Good and Evil in the midst of the
Garden of Eden. Eve gave it to Adam and he did
eat. (Paraphrase)
9. SIN ENTERS THE WORLD
**At that very moment in time the
SIN of Disobedience entered into
the world and Sin was extended to
All mankind.**
10. Adam Makes Excuses
Gen. 3:9: “And the Lord God called unto Adam,
and said unto him, „Where art thou?‟ and he said: I
heard thy voice in the garden and I was afraid,
because I was naked and I hid myself.” (KJV)
11. Adam Makes Excuses
Gen. 3: 10-12:
First, God asked Adam if he
ate of the Tree of Knowledge of God and Evil,
and Adam responded that, “The Woman whom
thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the
tree, and I did eat.” (Paraphrase)
12. Eve Made Excuses
Gen. 3:13: When the Lord asked Eve, “What is
this that thou hast done?” Eve responded: „the
serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.‟ (Paraphrase)
Then the Lord imposed the punishment for all
three of the participants in this act of
disobedience:
13. God Imposes Punishment
Gen. 3:14: “And the LORD God said unto the
serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed
above all cattle and above every beast of the field;
upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat
all the days of thy life:” (KJV)
14. God Imposes Punishment
Gen. 3:15: “And I will put enmity between thee
and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed;
it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his
heel.” (KJV)
15. Jesus, the Atonement for Our Sins
**Gen 3:15 is a direct reference to Jesus,
who would be the redemptive sacrifice to
save all mankind from sin!**
16. Consequences of the Sin of Disobedience
Gen. 3:16-24: The women would have “sorrow
during childbirth” and the man would have to eat
“by the sweat of his face.”
17. Consequences of the Sin of Disobedience
God sent Adam and Eve out of the Garden of
Eden so that they could not eat of the Tree of
Life and therefore live forever. God placed
“Cherubims and a flaming sword which turned
every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
(Paraphrase)
18. The Final Analysis:
**The summation of Genesis 3 is found in
Romans 5:12: “Wherefore, as by ONE man sin
entered into the world, and death by sin; and so
DEATH passed upon ALL MEN, for that ALL
have SINNED:” (KJV)
19. “Why is a Quest for Holiness Needed?”
WE need to return to the close relationship that
man had with God in the beginning. “The Quest
for Holiness for the Children of God” is vital, it is
crucial, it is very essential, and it is critical as the
Lord prepares His People for His IMMINENT
RETURN!
