2. Welcome To The Zoo
How are you doing today? Welcome to your first day at the
Texas zoo. You will be placed to maintain and take care of the
African lion habitat and the elephant’s habitat. These two
animals take a lot of care because they are the main attraction
to the zoo. You will first maintain the lions then you will move
on to the elephants.
3. The African lions
First let me inform you on some basic
facts about the African lions such as
there names
• Scientific name - Panthera Leo
• Common name – African lion
4. Maintenance
Because the African lion is such a large animal it is going to take a large amount of
time of your day to maintain this animal. You will have to make sure that there is
food, clean habitats ,and also cleaning the lions .For the food the African lions eat all
meat because they are carnivores in the wild. The most common foods that we feed
them are deer meat that they are use to eating in the wild bush. We feed the
animals twice a day once in the Morning and once in the evening. For cleaning the
habitats this will be done when the lions get there medical treatment .You will clean
the habitats once every two weeks. How will you clean the habitats? You will start
by cleaning up there feces, maintaining trees and scrubs, and cleaning up whatever
they left behind from there feedings. The last thing you will have to do for
maintaining them to clean them and to groom them .Do not worry though the will
be drugged on medication while doing this so they will be asleep. You will spray
them down with a water house and scrub there fur down with a special shampoo
and you will also groom there nails and the fur.
5. Medical Treatment
In the medical treatment aspect for the lions you will check up on them
every two weeks. The things that you will have to check for are most
commonly found in all captive lions .Such as the following sicknesses canine
distemper virus, feline immunodeficiency virus, and feline infectious
peritonitis. These sicknesses are common to captive lions that’s why we
have to check them when they have signs of weakness and not eating to
there full potential.to prevent those viruses from happening we take the
lions in every two weeks and give them shot to prevent the viruses from
coming back or prevent them from happing. Also if the lion were to get
injured in any way we will immediately take them to are big animal vet at
the zoo.
6. African lion viewing
• Public safety viewing
The lion viewing area meets all of the requirements its take to make a habitats. It is
the safest zoo to the public. The lion habitat is surrounded by a 20 foot fence around
the perimeter and before the metal fence there is a wire fence. The lions habitat is
also surrounded by a river that goes all the way around it that is 30 ft. wide so
nothing will be able get to the fence easily. Also all public standing has a rail the
separates you from the fence and the water. You will also have to be sure to warn
and tell people to stand back front the rail and no leaning on the rail.
• Handicap accessibility
Handicap accessibility is available all around the zoo and viewing areas. There will
be ramps at every part of the zoo so there will no worries of hard traveling upstairs
or down stairs. Also there will zoo helpers that will assist you and make your way if
needed.

elephants are the most popular animal that is
wanted to be seen. So that is why we have
great workers and habitats for the elephants to
keep them in great condition and give them a
good viewing area

The elephants are taken care of every part of the day. From feeding
, cleaning , and maintaining there habitat. The elephants are feed three
times a day and cleaned twice a day. We feed the elephants stacks of hay
that are located on every corner of there habitat. Also the elephants have
trees that that they can feed off of too . The elephants are cleaned in the
morning before the crowd of the zoo arrives and they are cleaned at night
when they are put up. They clean the elephants by spraying them down
with a disinfecting water and they also scrap anything that should not be on
there feet. The last thing that they do is maintain the habitats that they live
in . They clean the habitat once a week. They clean it by picking up
feces, cleaning the excess food they do not eat, and they groom the trees
and the scrubs. Also they clean the water of the ponds that are located in
there habitats.

means African horse sickness. This viruses has been passed on from
elephants that come from Africa.it is from is an insect-borne disease of quid it
was passed on from a bug in Africa that was brought here. to treat the spread
of this sickness the elephants receive a shot every six months to keep it from
effecting them or keep it from spreading. We also have a big treatment center
for the elephants because they get injured from playing with each other and
also sometimes fighting. Also another big treatment that we have done to the
elephants are cleaning they feet so they do not get cut and get infected.
