About this Research
CompTIA’s 4th Annual Healthcare IT Insights and Opportunities study was conducted to build on previous CompTIA
research in the healthcare space and further explore HIT (Healthcare IT) trends, challenges and opportunities. The
objectives of this research are:
• Understand current and future HIT investments
• Understand the HIT sales process, including customer (e.g. doctors) pain points
• Understand market drivers and hurdles to HIT investments especially in the area of EMR/HER
• Understand the need for HIT training and education

The study consists of four sections, which can be viewed independently or together as chapters of a comprehensive report.

Section 1: Healthcare IT Market Overview
Section 2: EMR/EHR Adoption Update
Section 3: mHealth Trends
Section 4: Managing the IT Function

The research consists of a quantitative online survey of 375 doctors, dentists and other healthcare providers or
administrators. The sampling intentionally focused on small healthcare practices. Data collection occurred during
November, 2012. The margin of sampling error at the 95% confidence level for the results is +/- 5.2 percentage points.
Sampling error is larger for subgroups of the data.

As with any survey, sampling error is only one source of possible error. While non-sampling error cannot be accurately
calculated, precautionary steps were taken in all phases of the survey design, collection and processing of the data to
minimize its influence.

About this Research CompTIA’s 4th Annual Healthcare IT Insights and Opportunities study was conducted to build on previous CompTIA research in the healthcare space and further explore HIT (Healthcare IT) trends, challenges and opportunities. The objectives of this research are: • Understand current and future HIT investments • Understand the HIT sales process, including customer (e.g. doctors) pain points • Understand market drivers and hurdles to HIT investments especially in the area of EMR/HER • Understand the need for HIT training and education The study consists of four sections, which can be viewed independently or together as chapters of a comprehensive report. Section 1: Healthcare IT Market Overview Section 2: EMR/EHR Adoption Update Section 3: mHealth Trends Section 4: Managing the IT Function The research consists of a quantitative online survey of 375 doctors, dentists and other healthcare providers or administrators. The sampling intentionally focused on small healthcare practices. Data collection occurred during November, 2012. The margin of sampling error at the 95% confidence level for the results is +/- 5.2 percentage points. Sampling error is larger for subgroups of the data. As with any survey, sampling error is only one source of possible error. While non-sampling error cannot be accurately calculated, precautionary steps were taken in all phases of the survey design, collection and processing of the data to minimize its influence.
