asked this question because this helps me find out
about the people answering the questionnaire.
Since the majority of my audience are below 25, if I
design my magazines based around the most
popular answers I will be aiming it at people under
25.

3. Are You Male OR FEMALE?
11 Males & 4 Females answered this questionnaire. This means that the
more popular opinions will be the ones that are favoured by men.
Because of this I will be getting more information on what males want in a
music magazine & so I would be able to design a better magazine
basing it around these ideas.

This question shows that my sample group is nearly split into half who read
magazines regularly & half that never do. This means the other questions are split
between answers that people actually get from magazines & half what they want
from a hypothetical.

This question was used to find out what the price of my magazine
should be, by seeing what customers would be willing to pay or what
they already do. This sample size most popular price was £3 & If this
sample turn out to be people that would be interested in a punk
magazine this should be my price.

This question is used to see how many pages the sample size would
expect in a weekly magazine. As a general rule; fortnightly, monthly
& quarterly magazine should have more content as there is more
time between each issue & bi-weekly magazines will have less.
Knowing that they expect around 100 pages for weekly I can round
up to 130 fortnightly or down to 70 for bi weekly. This question was
deliberately made to be relevant to other frequency magazines as
the result of this questionnaire will determine the frequency of my
own.

This question was to see if I should be listening to the preferences & advice of the people
answering the questionnaire, as they may not listen to the styles of music that my magazine
contains. This would make their input less relevant. Looking at this data, Two of the groups most
popular genres, Punk & Metal, are the main genres of my magazine (However Pop, Hip Hop &
Electronic will feature in crossovers). This gives me confidence that I can rely on the results of
this questionnaire to help design my magazine.

I used this to help think of any possible colour schemes that could fit
with the content & misc en scene in my magazine. Black & red were
both chose a lot so I think my colour scheme will be based on these
two colours with a third adding detail, design & individuality to the
separate articles & pages.
9. What words do you associate with punk?
Some of the words that people said they associated with punk included, “Anarchy”
“Riot” “Violence” “Rebellion” “Teenagers” “Loud” “Aggressive” “Noisey” “Alternative”
“Headbanging” These majority of these words represent an alternatie lifestyle that
punk is known for & these themes should definitely be showcased in my magazine.
I asked this question to get ideas for the name of my magazine, after looking at these I
definitely have ideas, however I am going to wait to choose the name as this is a very
important decision.

This question was to see how frequent the readers want magazines to
be. As the data shows “Weekly” Is the most popular & this is combined
with the most chosen price of £3.00 & publishing with 100 pages, the
average magazine size(also most popular size). This means new issues
of my magazine will be out very quickly, making sure to keep on to top
of breaking news. But it will also have a high issue size for a weekly
magazine & an affordable price to be spending weekly. With this
frequency, issue size & price, my magazine may be able to compete
with big, regular cheap magazines such as “Kerrang!”
11. What do you dislike about current music
magazines?
Answers to this included everything from specific details (“I don’t like how they front
covers are laid out”) to the very general (“I’d rather be listening to music”). One of the
biggest dislikes was how the magazines do not focus on the music enough, this was also
shown with interviews & reviews being the preferred article. These are the biggest
features I will be using in my magazine & I feel I have counteracted the issues & gained
new customers.
The second problem was that people would rather be “listening to music than reading
about it”. This is also shown with CD’s being the joint 1 st preferred free item from
magazines. To solve this problem, as a lot of my sample size were not interested in
buying magazines, I will be giving away free cds with the magazine to encourage people
who prefer to listen to buy it.

This question was to see what type of articles should be prominent in my magazine. These
are four ideas, I was planning on using the more popular two as feature articles, which is
now “Interviews” & “Gig Guide”. I am planning on using an feature interview for my double
page spread , I am also going to try to show off or advertise the gig guide on the contents
page as much as possible with design features. Reviews & Buyer’s guide will now be regular
content. This will include reviews of new albums, EP’s, Gigs, & Local/unsigned reviews.
Buyer’s guide will be a weekly guide with help on what to look for when it comes to buying
microphones, amplifiers, guitars, anything music related really.

This question was to determine what free item would be the best at attracting new
customers. Even though there is a joint first with CD’s & Posters, I am choosing to
give out CD’s, as CD’s will also attract the sample people that said they never buy
magazines, & that was more than 5. I may consider giving away a poster as well but
this might bring my magazine out of the price range I have chose for it.

I asked this to help with the general font style of the articles.
The most chosen one was “Chiller” which was not a surprise as
right away I found it was the one that fit in best with what the
group said about punk (Anarchy, Violence, Etc.)
