  3. But to be a great teacher and to live a great life, we have to understand that first we must realize we can control ourselves and that we an aim for greatness. But expectations are tied to our aim. Let’s look at them for a moment.
  4. In his book Pymalion in the classroom, Dr. Robert Rosenthal of Harvard University shared his experiment from the late 1960s. Beginning of school year three teachers were called into the office and told that “because of their teaching styles you are the three best teachers in the school as a special reward we are going to give each of you one classroom of the brightest children in the school selected based on IQ tests – we expect them to jump 20-30% in academic achievement. Keep this confidential, we don’t want anyone to know.” Teachers were psyched. They were enthusiastic. At the end of the year.

  9. Student speaking: Levi Another thing we do is make movies. We all learn to write scripts, produce, direct, and edit our own movies. Movies are the modern essay. People respond to movies.

  11. Do you have the heart to be a great teacher? Is your heart still in it? Or have you lost heart? Some teachers are just going through the motions. they’ve lost it. They don’t know how to find it again. More than many want to admit - great teaching starts with a heartfelt passionate love and a commitment to do whatever it takes for the benefit of kids. But how? How do we know where to focus? How can we get our heart back?
  12. Vicki Davis will introduce students one at a time as we move through this presentation. The emphasis is several points: If you can refer back to anything you heard in the keynote to reinforce, that is great. Student should be able to explore their interests using technology. Students have such untapped potential. Creativity is important. remember - YOU are what they are observing. Be confident but people don’t need tiny details. We only have 20 minutes, so I’m going to keep you moving along.

  14. Person speaking: Brent In our class, we don’t just use apps, we make them. Can mention about first app - was fun and about nachos (a kind of food w/ chips and cheese), but that you got serious and leveled up.
  15. Speaker: BRENT We collaborate and connect with people around the world as we do. Here, you can see pictures of a student from our school who is leading a team of students from around the world. We connect and work with other students (a tad about collaboration.)
  16. Person speaking: Jonte At our school, we want everyone to code. In this picture, I’m helping a younger student learn how to code. During my time in Computer Science, I programmed a video game in Scratch, programmed apps, made videos, and programmed apps. We’re not afraid of coding, it is what we do. It is almost like we speak a different language. (Or add something about what you think and how you learned.)

  18. Person Speaking: Spence After we make our apps, we compete in these events called Shark Tanks to see which apps get funded and go on the app stores in the United States.
  19. Person speaking: Spence Overview: Here, you can see me and my friend Jay starting to speak about our app, the Brave app. We not only collaborate with kids around the world, we present with them.
  20. Speaker: Spence I was graphic designer on the Brave app. On our projects, each student takes a role that suits their talents and interests. (About how each person brings their strengths in.) Our app was about ____ because we wanted to help people be more brave.
  21. Speaker: Peyton One thing that is important about what we do is that we write and do things for people outside our classroom: No wastebasket work Look for our passions - talk about the ebook and graphic design pieces.
  22. Speaker: Peyton Here are covers of ebooks. (Can mention a few topics) We are encouraged to pick topics that are important to us We are taught graphic design principles to help things look good Encouraged to find our voice.
