2. An Auburn University alumnus, Courtland Lee
Rudolph joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch more
than three decades ago and now serves as the vice
president of Merrill Lynch Municipal Markets in
Tampa, Florida. He oversees municipal bond market
activities for the southeast region of the United
States. Aside from his career, Courtland Lee Rudolph
is an avid hunter and a member of the Quality Deer
Management Association.
The Quality Deer Management Association promotes
ethical deer hunting and the conservation of healthy
deer herds. Knowing that these efforts help provide
good hunting for them, responsible hunters
cooperate in the following ways:
3. 1. To track specific groups of deer and how the herd
improves over time, hunters record the weight and
gender of their kills and where they shot them.
2. Tracking fawn recruitment is an important gauge
of the potential growth of the herd. Hunters therefore
check does for lactation. This must be done before
the peak of the rut to determine the likelihood of a
doe’s fawn surviving that year.
3. Healthier deer have kidneys covered generously in
fat. To collect data on kidney fat, hunters cut the fat
off the organ at each end. Any fat that falls off gets
discarded, while the remaining fat is peeled off and
weighed.
