Dr. Andrew Walkingshaw gave a presentation on June 27, 2008 at the University of Cambridge's Unilever Centre for Molecular Science Informatics Department about plotting the future of scientific data and informatics. Informatics studies the structure, algorithms, behavior and interactions of natural and artificial systems that process information digitally. It also develops its own conceptual foundations and utilizes foundations from other fields. Since computers increasingly process information digitally, informatics has computational, cognitive and social aspects, including studying the social impact of information technologies.
