• Weak – WA, WB (two way arrow – equilibrium, partially dissociate)
• Non- electrolytes (no recognizable ions)
• Polar and soluble (usually contain O, N, Cl or F atoms)
• nonpolar not soluble

Water can hydrate ions and polar molecules – energy to separate more than made up by energy of attraction (release)
Non-polar substances – more energy involved to separate water and separate the np substance (especially water ) than is gained from the attraction
