 Energy use has
changed a great deal
since people relied
solely on the sun,
their own strong
bodies or animals as
energy resources.
Long ago, people
learned how to use
water power to
turn paddle wheels
and wind power
for transportation
and irrigation.
People learned to
use the chemical
energy stored in
materials like
wood to cook and
heat their homes.
 But machines and
technologies
introduced during
the Industrial
Revolution of the late
18th century required
the use of other
energy resources,
especially fossil fuels.
Fossil fuels like
coal, oil and
natural gas are
considered to be
nonrenewable
energy resources.
PROBLEMS CAUSED BY OVER
CONSUMPTION OF ENERGY
HEALTH
PROBLEMS
HIGHER GLOBAL
TEMPERATURES
DAMAGE TO
PLANTS
Other problems from the pollution from
burning fossil fuels:
 Lead poisoning has been shown to affect the development
and progress of children living near motorways
 Dust and gases in the air can lead to smog above large
industrialised cities
 A hole is developing in the ozone layer which will not filter
out harmful ultra-violet rays from the Sun
What are the problems with global
warming?
The average
temperature of
the Earth will rise
This can lead to
droughts
Extremes of
weather will
occur like
hurricanes and
storms
 Our fossil fuel
reserves formed over
millions of years from
decaying plants and
animals.
 As we use them up,
they will not be
replenished in our
lifetimes.

DEVICES
 USE ENERGRY SAVING
LIGHT BULBS
 TURN OFF LIGHTS
 CLOSE THE FRIDGE
 TURN OFF THE WATER
UNPLUG ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Do not leave
the television
or stereo on if
you are not
using it.
USE ENERGRY SAVING LIGHT BULBS
These last a
long time and
use much less
energy than
other light
bulbs.
TURN OFF LIGHTS
 Turn off the lights
in your bedroom
when you leave.
Make sure you turn
off all the lights in
the house when you
out
 Turn off the lights if
no one is in a room
CLOSE THE FRIDGE
Do not leave the
fridge door open
because the
things inside
warm up and
fridges use a lot of
energy to make
them cold again
TURN OFF THE WATER
 Using simple water
conservation techniques
can help cut your water
usage by more than half. If
you commit just a little
extra effort each day you
alone can make a
difference
 Turning off the water when
you are brush your teeth is
a great way to start
conserving energy

Energy conservation

  • 2.  Energy use has changed a great deal since people relied solely on the sun, their own strong bodies or animals as energy resources.
  • 3. Long ago, people learned how to use water power to turn paddle wheels and wind power for transportation and irrigation.
  • 4. People learned to use the chemical energy stored in materials like wood to cook and heat their homes.
  • 5.  But machines and technologies introduced during the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th century required the use of other energy resources, especially fossil fuels.
  • 6. Fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas are considered to be nonrenewable energy resources.
  • 7. PROBLEMS CAUSED BY OVER CONSUMPTION OF ENERGY HEALTH PROBLEMS HIGHER GLOBAL TEMPERATURES DAMAGE TO PLANTS
  • 8. Other problems from the pollution from burning fossil fuels:  Lead poisoning has been shown to affect the development and progress of children living near motorways  Dust and gases in the air can lead to smog above large industrialised cities  A hole is developing in the ozone layer which will not filter out harmful ultra-violet rays from the Sun
  • 9. What are the problems with global warming? The average temperature of the Earth will rise This can lead to droughts
  • 10. Extremes of weather will occur like hurricanes and storms
  • 11.  Our fossil fuel reserves formed over millions of years from decaying plants and animals.  As we use them up, they will not be replenished in our lifetimes.
  • 12. HOW CAN WE HELP  UNPLUG ELECTRONIC DEVICES  USE ENERGRY SAVING LIGHT BULBS  TURN OFF LIGHTS  CLOSE THE FRIDGE  TURN OFF THE WATER
  • 13. UNPLUG ELECTRONIC DEVICES Do not leave the television or stereo on if you are not using it.
  • 14. USE ENERGRY SAVING LIGHT BULBS These last a long time and use much less energy than other light bulbs.
  • 15. TURN OFF LIGHTS  Turn off the lights in your bedroom when you leave. Make sure you turn off all the lights in the house when you out  Turn off the lights if no one is in a room
  • 16. CLOSE THE FRIDGE Do not leave the fridge door open because the things inside warm up and fridges use a lot of energy to make them cold again
  • 17. TURN OFF THE WATER  Using simple water conservation techniques can help cut your water usage by more than half. If you commit just a little extra effort each day you alone can make a difference  Turning off the water when you are brush your teeth is a great way to start conserving energy
