and to include a greater emphasis on creativity in the learning and teaching process.

The teachers work on topics with small groups of pupils while the rest of the class work on
self–selected activities. Projects are often open–ended and therefore curriculum planning is flexible
and is sometimes teacher–directed and sometimes child–initiated. This philosophy is inspiring and
can be partially transferred to the different framework of the British primary school. Whole–school
approach to developing 'creativity'
For school leaders the first step in developing a creative school is the fostering of a whole–school
approach. Creativity is not an add–on and it cannot be imposed by the headteacher. There needs to
be discussion, involvement and ownership. The debate should be based around some of the
following points:

the creation of a school with creativity at the heart of the learning process
enhancing the motivation for staff and pupils
fostering the professional development of all the staff, both teaching and non–teaching
involving governors and parents in a whole–school approach to creativity and showing how this
philosophy supports school improvement and high standards of achievement
getting the pupils involved in school issues (regarding the curriculum and the learning, perhaps

When I first think of education making an impact on my life, my immediately goes to the teacher
that inspired me to pursue the field of education: Mr. Quesenberry. The truth is, I never expected
to enjoy his 8th grade Civics class. Though I had many wonderful social studies teachers before
8th grade, each year history was always one of my least favorite subjects, and I expected Civics to
be the same. Before I took his class, I thought that the government was just a bunch of old rich guys

The most challenging obstacle on my educational journey was learning to love to read. When I was
in first–grade reading was a struggle: I refused to sound out words, I was easily frustrated, and I
simply didn't enjoy it. Needless to say, my parents were worried. Reading is the foundation that your
entire education is built on, and I refused to even try. Knowing this, my mom signed me up for
summer reading camp. The summer before my second–grade year was spent in a classroom learning
strategies to sound out words and read faster. Immediately, there was not much change. In

Suddenly I was doing more reading than watching TV. By sixth–grade, I was reading at the same
level as a senior in high school. I continued to gobble down books as fast I could get my hands on
them. Sixth–grade was the year I discovered the magical world of "Harry Potter". Needless to say, it
changed my young life. Since the sixth–grade, I have read the Harry Potter series a total of six times.
Today some of my favorite authors include Sarah J. Maas, Victoria Aveyard, Katharine McGee,

Personal Narrative: My Educational History
My educational history is very diverse. I went to Catholic school from kindergarten to sixth grade,
then went to public school from seventh to twelfth grade. The transition from Catholic school to
public school was very complicated but at the same time it was effortless. I did not have to wear a
uniform, go to church, or learn religion anymore. I have a disease called Lupus, so my immune
system was really bad which made attendance a little bit of an obstacle throughout high school.
Although, most of my grades were A's and B's I was still reprimanded when it came to absence;
that was the bad part of my educational history definitely. Sometimes I would have to miss four
days in one week which made whichever tests I had at the end of the week or the beginning of the

At my old school, I took classes that were more geared to my major like biology 121 and
mathematics 109. Then I came here and had all gen–eds I keep hearing that it's because i'm a

Unlike reading, when writing, it is important that grammar, spelling and vocabulary terms are
used correctly, therefore restricting me from writing in the way that I would prefer. The most
stressed phrase while in high school was, "It is not the content of the essay, but rather the
mechanics of grammar and speech that are most prominent." Unfortunately, I have never been
one to enjoy the art of writing. In fact, I was recently given a diagnostic test, determining at which
level I write and whether or not I should be upgraded to a higher achieving English class.

Everyone had their own educational journeys before they attend their dream colleges. They have
gained experiences to prepare for college, and they can adapt to college environment well. I did
enjoy my time at elementary school, junior high school, and high school as well. I have gained some

No, not at all! It empowers me to work twice as diligently as everyone else, I'm motivated by the
competition in front of me as hard work will be rewarded with success. Life is set up in order for
the successful families to remain prominent while the disadvantaged face tremendous barriers to

The Early and latter stages of Literacy Development
Learning to read and write as a child is an experience that all can relate to. The average child
learns to read and write at the early ages of three and four. Developing literacy at an early age is
crucial to academic development as well as to performance in life. Early development can be just
what a child needs to stimulate their minds, which in turn is assisting in the evolution of their future.

I soon began to excel in writing the alphabet as well as short words. My mom went on to teach me
how to write my name, and I soon moved on to learn numbers. I enjoyed writing and began to
choose that over playing outside. The following year, I started school and I enjoyed learning more

When I was a kid, school for me was waking up early in the morning. I also have to study a lot in
school, then after school I have to do homework. I remember my first day at school. My mom and
dad, both were so happy and prepared but I was so nervous and cheerless. I didn't like to wake up

Frederick Douglass Education Essay
In Frederick Douglass's narrative, "Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass", he speaks of how
he gained his education. He discusses who helped him and who discouraged him from getting an
education. He mainly taught himself how to read and write, but he would have been nothing without
the help of one of his master's wife, Mrs. Auld. This narrative has shown that even the slightest
education can be very abundant and meaningful. Through this essay it becomes evident that

Education is Our Foundation
The opportunities education gives to individuals is remarkable, many careers and life lessons come
from having a great education and educators. In the education system, many are taught valuable
attributes that will live on with them for life times to come. There is a fine line between which life

In the Working class schools, Knowledge was described as a set of facts to be learned. Creativity
was not important enough to be incorporated into the curriculum. During Elementary and Middle
school we were taught to sit still and memorize facts,information and that there is one way of doing

A very valuable aspect I learned this summer was how to gracefully except criticism. In the past, I
haven't responded to criticism well if it wasn't from someone in my close inner circle. I can take
criticism personally instead of focusing it on my work. My mid–evaluation was a good learning
lesson. I was nervous about the evaluation because I knew I would hear constructive criticism.
But, the meeting went well and I learned valuable information about my performance.
Additionally, when I listened to what my supervisors had to say and implemented their advice, I
found myself doing better. For example, Marti and IngriQue said that I needed to expressive
myself more and not be as passive. When I listened to them, it felt good to express what I was
thinking instead of bottling it up. I really did enjoy my assignments. I particularly liked the tasks

This story has to begin in my middle school years. At this age, I was already being tested annually
amongst my peers. My parents had already received grades from the prior year letting them know
that I was excelling in math and science. This year was different, this year they kept emphasizing
on how it counts. And how it did. The grade I had received on these standardized tests statewide
were enough to push me to the next level. My parents received letters in the mail that informed
them how well I was doing statewide. These letters showed my test grade in comparison to
everyone else in the New York State. Next was the meeting with the guidance counselor who
offered advanced classes based on my grades to progress my placement. I never thought anything of
it. I actually felt like, "great they finally see how boring this is to me!" I was enthusiastic to embark
on a new journey, something that may actually challenge me. My first year of junior high school was
something I will never forget. My parents never really had to attend parent–teacher conferences for

My education story starts the same as most every person that went to public schools in the United
States. I attended elementary, middle, and high school. For the most part, those time were
uneventful. Of course from time to time I experienced little hiccups along the way. A subject that no

I was considered a middle–average student. I only averaged a low C in grade school and middle
school math. Why? I was bored with it. Doing long division in your head is stupid. So freshman
algebra rolled around and I loved it. After two weeks in the class I was three and one half chapters
ahead of the teacher. He would only assign the odd problems for homework, but I'd do them all.
Geometry was even cooler. But thinking back, not one of the teachers even commended me for
doing so well. My father noticed I was good at it, but I thought he had to tell me I was good; he
was my father. The next year, my junior year, I started to become a more social person. Not
having the proper guidance to balance my education and social life, I started slacking. I pretty
much gave up on school, moved out of my parents' house at 17, and thought I had the world
figured out. Somehow I still managed to graduate with a 3.2, but I never gave college a half a
thought. I was busy being an idiot. My father always encouraged me to do well in school, and he
was very proud of me. He always told me the importance of math and how being good at it would
offer me a good career, but I was a teenager. To me, him telling me to do my math so I can get a
good job ranked right next to him telling me to take out the trash. I needed more encouragement. I
needed proof that math was actually used for something. Not one teacher ever pulled me aside and
