The National Honor Society chapter at St. Lucie West Centennial High School outlines requirements for the 2008-2009 academic year. General meetings will be held monthly, and attendance at 6 meetings is required. Executive committee and committee meetings will also take place monthly. The induction ceremony for new members is scheduled for March 25, 2009. Students wishing to run for officer positions must submit a letter of intent by April 1. Elections will be held during the following week.

General Meetings: A general meeting is for all NHS members. All members are required to
attend a minimum of six (6) meetings for the current school year. (Seniors: If you do not
attend the minimum number of required meetings, complete the required minimum service
hours and maintain a 3.2 or better GPA, you will not be eligible to wear the NHS stole at
graduation.) All meetings will be held in Portable 8 from 2:15 until 2:45 p.m. Meetings will begin
promptly at 2:15, and all members are required to sign in. Any member who fails to sign in cannot
be considered present. The officers will generally conduct the meetings. If unable to attend, please
obtain information from your elected officers or see Mrs. Kind before or after school.
General Meeting dates for the remainder of the school are as follows: October 13, November
18, December 15, January 12, February 9, March 16, April 21, and May 18.
Executive Committee Meetings: Officer meetings are mandatory. These meetings are for the
elected officers only. They will be held in Portable 8.
Committee Meetings: Committee meetings will be held in Portable 8 the week prior to each
General Meeting. Atteandance at these meetings is mandatory for all standing committee members.
The Induction Ceremony for new members will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in the
auditorium from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
NHS Officer’s Letter of Intent: Any member wishing to run for office for the 2009-10 school
year must write a letter of intent and submit it to Mrs. Kind in Portable 8. The letter of intent must
include your name, position for which you are running, why you think this position is ideal for
you, and what you would do (ideas you may have) if you are elected to the position. Deadline for
submission of the letter of intent is April 1, 2009 at 2:15. Letters received after this time will not be
accepted.
Election Week: Election week will be from April 6-9, 2009. The election will be held at the April
meeting. Votes may be cast for approved candidates only, and only members in good standing may
vote. Officers for the 2009-10 school year will be installed at the May meeting.
