seconds
No longer!
4. Plan and Prepare
Create a script before you start filming
Separate into sections
1. Introduction 2. Skills 3. Education
4. Work Experience 5. Hobbies
6. References
Film each section separately then compile using
Video editor. Our Mobile App will be launching in
November making it a lot easier to create your
CV Video.
5. Do
Dress accordingly
Maintain eye contact with the camera
Speak clearly and concisely
Make sure there is no background noise
Express your personality
Smile!
6. Don’t
Look away from the camera
Use too many hand gestures
Speak too fast
Use slang or use “umm” before a sentence
Be Boring!
7. Introduction (10 seconds)
Start with a picture and your name.
Then introduce yourself. This part’s quite easy
“Hi my name is _________ and I am currently
studying/working at ___________________”
Remember – Smile!
8. Skills/Qualities (20 seconds)
The most important part of the CV video.
You need to sell yourself! At this point the employer will
either switch off or keep watching.
Don’t just say “I’m punctual and responsible”
Back it up with evidence so for example “At school I had
100% punctuality and was elected a prefect which shows
I am punctual & responsible.”
9. Education (20 seconds)
Discuss what subjects you’re currently studying.
What grades are you expected?
What subjects do you excel at and enjoy the
most?
What would you like to become?
10. Work Experience (20 seconds)
Use this section to give a brief overview of
any work experience you have had.
Remember to include any voluntary work
Tell the employer what you learnt and how
your work experience helped you.
11. Hobbies (20 seconds)
Be creative. If your hobbies are football, cooking,
reading or shopping show how that makes you a
better person.
So for example you could say “At the weekend I help
babysit my niece and nephew which makes me more
responsible and creative.”
Don’t lie. Use your actual hobbies but think how your
hobbies contribute to you as
a person
12. References (10-20 seconds)
At this stage it would be fantastic to ask your
referees to give you a verbal reference on
camera.
Chasing up references is a task for employers so
provide them as part of your CV video.
Don’t use family members. Your school tutor or
someone you’ve worked for.
13. And Finally...
Be Creative!
Film in different environments. Don’t just stand in
front of the camera and film. Make it interesting.
Use photos as well as video. Use photo editing
software and add in between sections to provide a
summary. Your CV video says a lot about you. Make
it unique!
