“Intelligent Conversations: A mindset shift
towards a developed Africa, she is co-author of

A survey of women from 19 G20 countries, conducted by
international pollster Ipsos MORI, revealed that there are
five major issues for women in the workplace:

perception among many female workers that
the top office is a man's world, and in order to
succeed in that world, they need to emulate
men.

When you're asked, "Who are you?" what is your
answer?
 Is it what you do, what your social station is, or how
you see your function in life.
The Authentic self
The authentic self is the you that can be found at
your absolute core. It is the part of you not defined
by your job, function or role. It is the composite of all
your skills, talents and wisdom. It is all of the things
that are uniquely yours and need expression, rather
than what you believe you are supposed to be and
do.

Find time for a half day or full day away for a personal
retreat and prayerfully reflect, review and respond to
these questions on paper. Develop a road map of you

say and do – and how you do it!

Complete your own personal SWOT analysis and thereafter
get another individual or two who can objectively do a
SWOT analysis of what they think of you. Submit
assignment to mentor(s) and discuss results

 Personal Appearance - Including clothing,
hygiene and attractiveness.
 Personality - Your values, goals, identity and
behavior.
 Competencies - These are cognitive, business,
communication and technical skills that enable
you to perform your job responsibilities.
 The Differentiator - Offering a unique value
proposition or benefit to your target audience.

Representing Christ means we are committed to the
task of bringing or presenting Christ to others (2
Corinthians 5:19-20).
Representing Christ in the workplace typically takes
either a verbal or nonverbal expression
 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost
his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is
thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and
to be trodden under foot of men.
How is the CHRIST brand reflecting through

There Are Four Types of Christians. Which one are
you?
Christian who is simply trying to survive.
Christian who is living by Christian principles.
Christian who is living by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Christian who is transforming their workplace for
Christ.

Representing Christ in the Workplace
1. Be joyful
Joy transcends emotion; it’s rooted in the hope we have
in Christ and the knowledge that his faithfulness is
constant and enduring. Within this context, we are
able to better live in the present moment and
dispense with the anxieties that come from focusing
too much on either the past or the future
2. Strive for excellence
Who do you work for? Ultimately, it’s not just a
company, a boss or even your family. We all work for
the Lord. So that carries with it a responsibility — we
should always do our best in human terms.

3. Support others
If your work involves other human beings there are people
around you experiencing difficulties. Although we can’t fix
everything, we can often be sources of support and
encouragement — quietly and unobtrusively. This can be
as simple as an understanding smile, willingness to listen
patiently for a couple minutes during a busy day, or an
encouraging word
4. Forgive
If you’re interested in workplace evangelization, there are few
ways more authentic than through forgiveness. Forgiveness
is frequently necessary in the workplace, and as Christians
we need to ask for it and receive it. The words “I’m sorry” are
among the most powerful we can use, and when it’s our turn
to forgive, we’re called to do it from the heart.

5. Be grateful
Gratitude is a powerful aspect of our faith. We can use it in
unlikely circumstances, too.
6. Be humble
There are no limits to the benefits of humility in the
workplace. In fact, if we want strong teams, we need to play
off the strengths of others, rather than their weaknesses.
This requires humility, because we’re recognizing that our
own skill set isn’t the be-all and end-all.
7. Pray
Perhaps the best thing we can do is pray for others we
encounter in our work. Let’s resolve to approach our daily
work as a means of loving God, our neighbour or co-worker,
and effectively serving our employer

8. Treat others with respect. The highest value of the
Christian faith is love. That doesn't mean you go around
hugging people, it means you treat them with respect,
value their opinions, treat them like you'd want to be
treated.
9. Get clear on your core beliefs. One of the most
fundamental beliefs of the Christian faith is that each
ordinary believer represents the faith. This means that
you have to do your job with integrity. That means being
honest, even if it costs you something.
The 4C’s of etiquette
 Courtesy – listening over talking, not interrupting. Using
phrases such as “Please”, “Thank you”, and “Pardon me”
 Consideration – acknowledging other people with whom
you share space. Involves keeping the office bearable to
work in
 Camaraderie – thinking of yourself as a team player vs
constant self promotion
 Class – concerns demeanor, being pleasant and doing
your best to please regardless

What is chivalry today?
It is made up but not limited to, the following elements:
* Good Manners
* Kindness towards others
* Consideration of any and everyone around you
* Thoughtfulness towards others
* Generosity of spirit and with physical things
* Doing something for someone before it is asked of you
* Showing grace and elegance in response to an act of
chivalry

Practice basic Chivalry
What is a lady?
A well-mannered and considerate woman with high
standards of proper behavior.

 Be charming. A true lady doesn't just sit there quietly and let the
world pass her by. She engages with other people, carries
stimulating conversations
 Don't use profanity, overeat or drink excessively. Being a lady
requires having self-control and will power
 Be respectful when visiting others‘ spaces. When you are a guest
in somebody else's office/home, allow the host/hostess to tell you
where to sit, where to leave your purse, whether or not to take off
your shoes,etc.
 Hold the door open for others.
 Stay calm, cool, and collected. Avoiding lashing out at others if you
are annoyed, angry, or upset. Remain poised, and handle the
situation rationally and calmly.

Professionals are flexible, courteous, competent,
helpful, responsible, well-groomed, efficient, patient,
and knowledgeable. They are good communicators,
listeners, and team players, and they consistently
demonstrate a positive attitude.

 A recent research study revealed that men and women

they make, but rather that work-life balance is the key
determinant on whether or not they have a successful
career.

 Making the right choice will determine your
interaction with the individual.
 A role model is an individual in which the behaviour
is observed from a distance.
 A mentor is someone that the individual works with
on a fairly regular basis. It involves observing the
mentor but also includes the opportunity for
discussion, evaluation and progress through 2-way
communication between the mentor and the
mentee.
 The individual and their coach on the other hand
have a task based relationship. A coach looks at you
work and gives you advice on how to improve your
results

  • 7. The Feminine Advantage While women have come a long way in the workplace over the years, there's still a perception among many female workers that the top office is a man's world, and in order to succeed in that world, they need to emulate men. What do you think?
  • 8. How well do you know yourself?  Do you know the brand called YOU?
  • 9. The Authentic self When you're asked, "Who are you?" what is your answer?  Is it what you do, what your social station is, or how you see your function in life.
  • 10. The Authentic self The authentic self is the you that can be found at your absolute core. It is the part of you not defined by your job, function or role. It is the composite of all your skills, talents and wisdom. It is all of the things that are uniquely yours and need expression, rather than what you believe you are supposed to be and do.
  • 11. Personal leadership questions  Who AM I?  Why AM I here?  Where AM I going?  How will I get there?  What will be my LEGACY? Assignment (1) Find time for a half day or full day away for a personal retreat and prayerfully reflect, review and respond to these questions on paper. Develop a road map of you life for at least one year
  • 12. Assignment (2)  Write a eulogy to be read at your funeral. It should feature every important and significant thing you would like to hear being said about you as you are being carried to your final resting place

  • 15. The Personal brand  Your total perceived value, relative to competitors, as viewed by your audience.  Your personal brand is how you present yourself and your career to the rest of the world

Personal Branding EVERYONE has a Personal Brand Your Personal branding is what sets you apart from the world It’s what makes you stand out in a world where standards and quality differ Your brand is deeply routed in your authentic personal identity The goal is to be known for who you are as a person and what you stand for Your brand is a reflection of who you are Your values, and beliefs that are visibly expressed by what you say and do – and how you do it!
  • 17. Professional and Personal Branding What makes you distinctive? What makes you stand out from the crowd? Have you developed a clear sense of your own personal brand based on an honest and current self analysis?

Re-discover Yourself  Do some soul searching – ask yourself the questions  Do the SWOT analysis Assignment (3) Complete your own personal SWOT analysis and thereafter get another individual or two who can objectively do a SWOT analysis of what they think of you. Submit assignment to mentor(s) and discuss results

Elements of Your Personal brand  Personal Appearance - Including clothing, hygiene and attractiveness.  Personality - Your values, goals, identity and behavior.  Competencies - These are cognitive, business, communication and technical skills that enable you to perform your job responsibilities.  The Differentiator - Offering a unique value proposition or benefit to your target audience.
  • 20. How is the CHRIST brand reflecting through you? Representing Christ means we are committed to the task of bringing or presenting Christ to others (2 Corinthians 5:19-20). Representing Christ in the workplace typically takes either a verbal or nonverbal expression  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
  • 21. How is the CHRIST brand reflecting through you? There Are Four Types of Christians. Which one are you? Christian who is simply trying to survive. Christian who is living by Christian principles. Christian who is living by the power of the Holy Spirit. Christian who is transforming their workplace for Christ.   • 22. Representing Christ in the Workplace 1. Be joyful Joy transcends emotion; it’s rooted in the hope we have in Christ and the knowledge that his faithfulness is constant and enduring. Within this context, we are able to better live in the present moment and dispense with the anxieties that come from focusing too much on either the past or the future 2. Strive for excellence Who do you work for? Ultimately, it’s not just a company, a boss or even your family. We all work for the Lord. So that carries with it a responsibility — we should always do our best in human terms.
  • 23. Representing Christ in the Workplace 3. Support others If your work involves other human beings there are people around you experiencing difficulties. Although we can’t fix everything, we can often be sources of support and encouragement — quietly and unobtrusively. This can be as simple as an understanding smile, willingness to listen patiently for a couple minutes during a busy day, or an encouraging word 4. Forgive If you’re interested in workplace evangelization, there are few ways more authentic than through forgiveness. Forgiveness is frequently necessary in the workplace, and as Christians we need to ask for it and receive it. The words “I’m sorry” are among the most powerful we can use, and when it’s our turn to forgive, we’re called to do it from the heart.

Let’s resolve to approach our daily work as a means of loving God, our neighbour or co-worker, and effectively serving our employer

That doesn't mean you go around hugging people, it means you treat them with respect, value their opinions, treat them like you'd want to be treated. 9. Get clear on your core beliefs. One of the most fundamental beliefs of the Christian faith is that each ordinary believer represents the faith. This means that you have to do your job with integrity. That means being honest, even if it costs you something.
