 Encouraging sustainable practices by facilitating partnerships between
local businesses, residents, schools and government within the Danville
Area.
 Focused on fact-based win-win, non-partisan initiatives and solutions
that are relevant to our community.
 Demonstrating how sustainable lifestyles and responsible operations
are financially advantageous to our community.
 Encouraging buying from local businesses that provide quality
information about their products and services.
 Recognizing what our community ‘already does well’ and figure out
‘what we can do better’

SDA Bicycle Initiative
 Encourage Town of Danville to adopt a comprehensive
Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
 Purpose of plan - Leverage network of bicycle and
pedestrian trails throughout community to provide
better access to transit, schools and shopping
destinations.
 Develop policies to provide ample bike parking and
other support systems for bicycling and walking in our
community.
 Expand education and encouragement programs to
help Danville residents learn to bicycle and walk safely.

Bicycle-Friendly Community
 Automobile traffic poses the greatest threat to the quality of life in Danville
 Growing parking congestion throughout downtown discourages visitors
 Danville has ideal Topology and Climate for Bicycling and Walking
 Reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG’s) helps the town meet its Climate
Action Goal
 Positions Danville as forward thinking while retaining small town values
 Honors commitments of the Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan and
General Master Plan
 Adoption of Contra Costa Countywide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan 2009
may qualify local bike facility projects for Measure J funding
 Encourage visitors from Iron Horse Trail to add to our local economy
 Healthy and beneficial activity for our residents and visitors

 Amend with applicable recommendations for the Town of
Danville

include recommendations from National Complete Streets

commercial development to include bicycle parking
 Require event organizers to provide temporary bicycle
facilities (i.e. valet services) for events that attract 500 or more
participants
 Include Capital Improvements to purchase, install and
maintain permanent bicycle racks strategically placed
throughout town
 Include Capital Improvements to place directional signage
throughout town and near Iron Horse Trail to welcome visiting
bicyclists and encourage safe ridership
