grassroots sustainable community-based
ecotourism best practices in Bali, Indonesia.
“Sustainable Dynamics” are the forces and
propertiesthatenable a community to coexist
and operate interdependently.

forces and properties of our corporate/

4. WOW Bali International Initiative Briefing Note 01 | 4
Corporate/ BusinessOutreach and
IntegrationProgram (CSR)
WOW offers a new dynamic approach to
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with
our offerings and solutions. Our CSR
integration process has two tiers: 1)
Sustainable Human Development, and 2)
Sustainable Business Development.
1) Sustainable Human Development
This tier focuses on the organization’s
Human Resources (HR), following our
adherence to ‘human-centered
designs’ and ‘holistic participation’.
Along this area of integration, WOW
has developedprogramsandsolutions
basedon itsactive researchesandcase
studies of organizational and
community best practices. The
program aims to define and develop
sustainability in wellbeing of both
management and employees of a
business or corporate organization—
from the personal, financial, talent,
creativity, productivity, and other
aspects. Dynamic Wellness serves as
the flagship program of WOW on
Sustainable Human Development.
2) Sustainable BusinessDevelopment
This tier involves the sustainable
perspectives of products, services,
supplies, clients, and markets that are
integrated and interdependent
solutions to transform the business to
foster sustainability principles. This
dynamic balance is an integral part of
WOW’s Sustainable Dynamics for
optimum results in “regenerative
development”. The process will walk
the organization(boththe management
and employees) through the different
key dynamics of a sustainable
community. By the end of this session,
necessary steps and action points will
have been laid out for the corporation
or business to integrate into the Smart
Center Sustainable Eco-village Project
of WOW Bali in Indonesia thru CSR.
3) SME Partnerships
WOW International Initiative
collaborates with SMALL and
MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES (SMEs)
through the Sustainable Dynamics
Collective (SDC). SMEs play a major
role in both local and global
economies. Cumulatively, they
outnumber big corporations and
generate jobs for the population and
within WOW’s ‘sustainable dynamic’
framework can develop optimum
results on the ecological and social
environments that can hardly be
ignored. Top SMEs are already
operating at these dynamics!
Our partnership with SMEs are aimed
at innovating regenerative,
sustainable, and conscious products,
services, and processes to exemplify
economically sound dynamic. WOW
Sustainable Dynamics through
mutualism and creative economics
enhancesbothshort term dynamics to
marketplace and long term returns in
investment. The sharing of resources
engages business developments at a
faster rate to market; positioning new
brand development as first to market,
these executions play an important
role in brand recognitions and
positioningof brandleadership, not to
mention execute socially responsible
and ecologically friendly business
practices.
III. Evolutionof the Human
Biodiversity Framework
From its inception as an alternative learning
program up to its recent development into an
internationally recognized wellness program
and top sustainability framework, the
followingprovides timelineof eventsthathave
contributed to the evolution of the Human
Biodiversity Framework of WOW Bali.
What is the framework all about?
5. WOW Bali International Initiative Briefing Note 01 | 5
The “Human Biodiversity” Framework is the
accumulation of knowledge and applications
stemming from over fifteen years of
researches and developments in experiential
and interdisciplinary alternative learning
models as well as case studies of sustainable
grassroots best practices. It is focused on
‘sustainable human development’ as the key
towards the global issue of massive loss of
ecological biodiversity,thus,the integration of
both human-level and systemic solutions for
the sustainable development of the people
and the planet.Whatthese yearsof researches
point towards is that sustainability requires
regenerative and evolutionary system that
fosters a ‘holistic participatory’ approach.
Although the recent evolution of the Human
Biodiversity Framework is inspired by the
Balinese Tri HitaKarana philosophy, it adheres
to a human-centered design that is inclusive
and adaptive,allowingvariousstakeholders to
collaborate with one another to co-develop
sustainable eco-solutions.
Building blocks of the Human Biodiversity
Framework
2006: Celebrations Program
Celebrations Program is the backbone of the
Human Biodiversity Framework. Initially
developedasan after-school program for at-risk
youths,the Programfeatureslearning processes
inspiredbymodern-daynewmediatoolsandthe
internet.Digital tools enable learners to design,
document, and access every learning exchange,
therebypromotinglearningineveryexperience.
In 2006, Celebrations Program was applied
during the UNESCO Youth Digital Ambassador
Program for 20 of the brightest youths in
digital media. It has been recognized as the
"mostdynamic youth programs, " according to
UNESCO and ZeroOne.org at the ISEA
Symposium sponsored by Adobe, Inc.
In 2009, Celebrations Program was enhanced
as “edutainment” and WOW Adventure Camp
program based on earlier case studies by the
National Alliance of New Media Arts and
Culture (NAMAC.org) when it was used as a
mentoring program at the first digital new
media lab for at-risk youths ran by WOW Bali
Co-founder and Creative Director Hai Dai, in
Maui, Hawaii,USA.Thiswas alsoappliedinthe
implementationof the WOW StylisticLearning
and Go Green Project for Balinese children.
2012: The Sustainable Dynamics Framework
Developed in 2012 based on accumulated
knowledge through case studies of sustainable
community-based ecotourism best practices
and actual experiences in implementing
sustainable projects in Bali, this framework
providesa systemic, holistic, interdisciplinary
and participatory model for collaboration
between and among various stakeholders. Tri
Hita Karana (Three Sources of Happiness)
provides an underlying philosophy for
Sustainable Dynamics, owing to the
framework’s embeddedness within the
Balinese culture. SustainableDynamicsbringsa
whole new perspective and inspiration to
collaboration and sharing of resources for the
cultivation of sustainable culture and
communities. Here, one has to define the
forces and properties that make a certain
collaborationprojectsustainable, as these are
the same elements that will make it work
dynamically.
2013: WOW International Initiative
This year marked the international initiatives
to share WOW Bali’s efforts to the global
community. Local collaboration projects of
WOW Bali have been case studied and
presented in various international fora and
recognized by international organizations.

WOW Bali and Yayasan Tri Hita Karana were
case studied by Presidio Graduate School for
Sustainable Management for HCDConnect of
IDEO.org (sponsored by the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation). WOW Bali programs in
partnership with local farmers headlined:
Permaculture to Save a Disappearing Culture.
This case study readapted Human-Centered
Designs into WOW solutions applied into its
development projects. The human-centered
dimensionof the local Balinese Tri Hita Karana
philosophy allows for more inclusive and

the planet recognizes human impact on the
ecology.
Thismajor issue in sustainability consolidated
