3. Mast head remains the same with each issue
published making it so easily to recognize
adding an element of identify to the magazine.
The typography of the mast head is sand serif
with he letters b, o and d being filled with the
colours red, blue and yellow making the
magazine more appealing to a younger
audience. This may also highlight how diverse
the magazine is as it covers all genres, which is
rare as usually most music magazines only cater
toward one genre
The Feature headline “RIHANNA”, is written in
capital letter, in a bold font and is written
along the width of the magazine in italic. In a
bigger Font than the masthead. Being that its
written in white against a blue/purple
background it makes her stand name stand
out. This corresponds with the cover line
above as Rihanna's constant need to reinvent
her self makes her stand out as an individual.
Being that her name is in a bigger font than
the masthead this may also indicate that
Rihanna is bigger than the magazine itself.
The main image is of the music superstar
Rihanna dressed in a crop top, leaning over
to the right hand side, with bright red hair
and lips looking directly at the camera. As her
image is overlapping the masthead it indicate
the magazine is extremely recognizable. The
colour red is commonly connoted with
danger with correspond with her gun tattoo
on her ribs. However is also is associated with
lust which is appropriate as she is posing in a
seductive manor, eyes slightly lowered and
her lips slightly parted. As her hair is covering
her eyes it adds an element of mystery to her
which corresponds with the following cover
line “My fans don’t really know who I am”.
The cover lines are all written in the same font
of the masthead and are all consistent in size
with the titles highlighted in white and written
in black. This minim change, i.e. reversing the
colours the texts written in, allows the cover
line title to stand out whilst not draining our
attention away from the main image to much.
The skyline is written is a bring yellow font helping it
stand out against the background and therefore stand
out to the audience and promoting other feature
stories within the magazine itself. Being that its
written at the top of the magazine it may suggesting
this particularly article is more important or one of the
main articles as not only is it positioned above the
other cover lines but its also written in a different
colour, making it stand out against the other
5. The headline GQ is written in a large bold
font with he main image Kanye being put
in front of the masthead. As the
masthead is the same n every issue it’s a
well known magazine and therefore
recognizable. Being that the magazine is
called “Gentleman quarterly” its target
audience is primarily men hence the male
main image.
The main image is of the artist Kanye
west, he's dressed in a nude coat,
white t-shirt and jeans, his relaxed yet
fashionable style of clothing suggests
how effortless fashion forward he is.
The colour of his clothing fit the colour
scheme of the magazine with very
neutral colours, however he still stands
out due to his body language (his
hands on hips) as well as his facial
expression (eyebrows slightly lifted
and jaws clenched) which gives him an
element of arrogance relating to the
cover line “dress like a god” as well as
“the bold look- how to grab everyone's
attention” both being appropriate
articles as Kanye is known for grabbing
everyone's attention good or bad.
The cover lines are written on either side of the
main image varying in font size but all in sand
serifs and in a similar style adding some sort of
consistency to the cover. The importance of each
cover line is highlighted through the use of bold
text making it stand out and gets he audiences
attention. The colours of the text co-ordinates
with the colours scheme of the article. The
heading of each cover line is highlighted through
the use of a bigger font as well as the use of
punctuation such as an exclamatory.
Kanye west’s name is written in a bold white
font as is placed on the left side of him
where thee e are few cover lines indicating
its one of the most important stories in the
article. Also the sub text is written in a
completely different font all together making
it stand out to the audience. The line “dress
like a God” is appropriate for the article as
the article is centred around men's fashion.
Being that Kanye is a designer and has
multiple fashion lines alongside his music. As
well as showcasing his “big headed” nature.
7. The typography of the headline
begins written in serifs in a black
font “The gospel according to” but
then transition is a bold large pink
font “Nicki Minaj”, being written in
a dark pink font it makes her name
stand out against the otherwise
light pink font. The large font may
refer to her being incredibly
famous and having a big
personality, it’s the largest text on
the double page spread
suggesting she is very important
and therefore also iconic (which
refers to the ring she's wearing)
The main image consists of Nicki Minaj
dressed in a zebra print body suit,
wearing a pink lipstick with elbow bent
and flashing a bold ring with icon
written on it. Her outfit is a little
unusual fitting the rappers style as she
is notorious for wearing bizarre
clothing. The ring is a reference to her
as she is incredibly successful
incredibly (as unfortunately many women are in magazines) it adds an element of
power to her image as she doesn’t necessarily need to be overly sexualised in order
to sell, which refers to her comment “I’ve toned down on the sexual stuff”. The
colour scheme of her clothing matches the colour scheme of the article (Pink, black
and white) adding an element of consistency to the magazine.
The text itself is written with sand serifs and is
in the same font through out the article.
However the more important texts and quotes
are either
written in bold making them
stand out and therefore drawing
the readers attention or its
highlighted. The article is slit into
a variation of topics and are
paragraphed accordingly making
it easy for the reader to read and
making the article look
organised and not cluttered.
The colour scheme of article
is pink, black and white, the
colour pink suggest this
article may be primarily being
catering towards females as
pink is often associated with
femininity. Also it is refection
of the artist herself as she is
known for her girly
tendencies.
9. The main image consists of a medium close shot of the artist Lady Gaga. She’s not
wearing any clothing and has her hands across her chest. She’s has multiple
necklaces draped across her neck. Being that her image takes us half of the double
page spread, it highlights her importance. Through it being done in black and white
and her hair having a “just
woke up” feel, it indicates
that she's just effortlessly
glamourous as the image is
incredibly minimalistic.
However lady gaga here is
presented in a very
sexualised manor, with her
lips slightly parted and eyes
lightly lowered and lack of
clothing, this may have been
done to highlight how
comfortable lady Gaga is
with her skin or to appeal to
a male audience (which is
more or less always the case)
The main headline is lady gaga,
with lady being written in
lowercase italic serifs Writing an
Gaga written in Upper case sand
serifs this may have been
purposely done to grab the
readers attention as she’s is
known for being “gaga” and
usual.
The article itself is all
written in the same font
as well as all in sand serifs
This makes the article
seem as though it is
important all together as
nothing is highlighted or
written in bold except the
letters S and I. Due to the
extent of writing within
this article perhaps it
indicates that its written
for an older target
audience as there aren’t
any vivid colours or
images that would be
generally used to
captivate a younger
audience. The article has a
large L that goes across
the text. The l is written
in bright red making it
stand out. It stands for
the artist name (Lady
Gaga) and is something
which has almost become
an identity stamp as its
something which is
regularly done with any
featured artist’s interview.
The space in the headline indicates that she is so well known
that her name speaks for itself and stands out by itself.
