3. CONTENT
In this documentary I will be showing how my life is impacted
by religion. I hope to explore the depth of my religion
especially from my denomination (NTCG) New Testament
church of god , also look at Pentecostalism and how it
effects me being under a denomination of the church that
believes in this ideology. I would want to include how youth
around me are impacted as well as controversial opinions
to the idea of believing in a religion and also if its valuable
in a permissive society to have a faith that one is
committed to
4. IDEA 1 :HOW AM I EFFECTED BY
RELIGION
-The primary target audience would be young people because while the
documentaries is about how religion impacts ones life it is going to be centred
around me who is considered a young person in church.
- Also I will be interviewing other young people in the same age bracket of 16+ and
including archive footage of us being at church events targeted at young people.
- Therefore the language used in this documentaries apart from when I am
interviewing specialist in the field of music or pastoral ministries will be slang.
- I believe the above appealing to the desired target audience.
- Also the secondary target audience might be people older that love watching
religious documentaries and films this documentary may enlighten them on how
young people respond to religion and cope with a permissive society.
5. IDEA 1 :HOW AM I EFFECTED BY
RELIGION
Presenter- I will be presenting doing the main voice overs and also introducing places of importance in my
life ill be including myself in the shots using the camera and also in archive footage to show my personal
engagement
Voxpops- I will be doing them in church where I can find out there opinions about being a young person
and Christian in a permissive society
Interview- I will be interviewing my pastor in his office or next to his pastors chair on the pulpit because of
how sacred that area is that will contribute and help communicate his importance
Music- in this video I will be using gospel tracks and also hip hop instrumentals to help communicate a
youthfully theme and appeal to the target audience ( guvna b , lecrae)
Sound- I would want the sound from outside the church to be evident in my archive footage to build up a
sense of anticipation as I go into service.
Cutaway footage- I will be filming cutaways of churches in my district and final my church that I go to and
the furniture inside my church probably before filming my voxpops and also interviews
Editing/graphics- I will use basic transitions and also I will use astons and also logos to show my
denominations brand also titles to show who's speaking and what district they come from
Cinematography- in terms of the mise en scene I will be doing close ups in the interviews to show/
emphasise moments of importance and meaning also I will be using panning shots or establishing shots to
show a large congregation and also using archive footage to show me at special events also to show the
personal connection in this documentary
Conventions
6. IDEA 1 :HOW AM I EFFECTED BY
RELIGION
The mode of address
I will speak to my primary audience of young people in a way that will engage them me
being the presenter I will talk casual not with slang however it will be slightly funny
and relaxed because I desire to show the less up tight and rigid side of Christianity.
Also in voxs pops the language that will be heard will be slang depending on what
type of young person I talk to , however I would want to show diversity.
Style
In terms of style I will be wearing as a presenter casual clothes because I don't want
people that watch this documentary to think church is all about being dressed up. I
want the audience to fell that religious young people such as I are actually normal
just like them.
I might when editing use premier to add certain filters/overlays to make the colour of
the images look a bit more modern and up to date. also the font of the as tons wont
be to crazy but just a little bit more creatively presented to add a professional flare.
7. Primary research I conducted a survey/questionnaire on how people think religion is portrayed
these were the questions and these were the responses I received from 15 people
Do you identifying your self with a religion
Yes 6 no 9
Do you think religion is portrayed badly in the media
Yes 10 no 1 maybe 4
Do you think do you think what is portrayed in media its an honest representation of religion
Yes 3 maybe 6 no 6
Do you think young people are effected a lot by religion in today's society
Yes 6 no 9
Do you think a documentary on how young people are effected by religion be interesting or
insightful.
Yes 10 maybe 3 no 2
IDEA 1 :HOW AM I EFFECTED BY RELIGION
Observation
I observation during the focus group and also in conversations with other youth is that the 21 century young people are becoming
more agnostic or atheist and there is quite a decrease in the amount of people who even identified themselves with any religion and
freedom in what you chose to believe without worrying about someone else not being tolerant in some ways are more common
8. IDEA 1 :HOW AM I EFFECTED BY RELIGION
For secondary research I looked at videos and facts also statistics on how people
think religion is portrayed.
I looked at a video that really inspired me called saint sinners because it showed
different opinions about turning a church into a night club called Halo. thus researching
how religion spaces are being changed from something that contrasts religious
teaching such as a night bar in a church. Also the way how that documentary was set
up it shows different opinions about how people viewed that concept from a religious
man to other people in vox pops. I would want to adapt this style in my documentary
https://humanism.org.uk/campaigns/religion-and-
belief-some-surveys-and-statistics/
I read this article and it talked about how “Numerous
surveys indicate that the proportion of individuals
who do not hold religious beliefs is steadily
increasing and perhaps now represents the majority
of the UK’s population.” the opening line really got
me because it showed the current trends arising that
it is more common for people to not really have a
religion. Also I found on this page these statistics the
population which describes itself as belonging to no
religion has risen from 31.4% to 50.6% between
1983 and 2013 according to the British Social
Attitudes Surveys 31st report issued in 2014.
9. The purpose of this documentary is to
show how I am religious. I want to share
through this documentary how religion
impacts me.
- Socially
- Mentally
- Spiritually

12. IDEA 2: HOW DOES THE MUSIC THAT THE BLACK CULTURE LISTEN
TO EFFECT THE BLACK SOCIETY
This documentaries will be named Black Music Black Culture. I
will be exploring if the music that the black culture endorses
and listens to effect the black society. I will be looking at how
black artists are portrayed in society. Also how black
entertainment brands like BET portray black artist .
Furthermore I would like to explore the opinions within the
black community finding out about the impact that music has
on there everyday life.
13. IDEA 2: HOW DOES THE MUSIC THAT BLACK
CULTURE LISTEN TO EFFECT THE BLACK SOCIETY
- My primary target audience will be young people because of the
archive footage that will be shown people creating music from
music genres which appeal to the young black community
- the language used in this documentaries will be slang even
when I talk to people who are artist much of the people that
are artist that I will interview have a lot of influence in street
culture.
14. IDEA 2: HOW DOES THE MUSIC THAT
BLACK CULTURE LISTEN TO EFFECT THE
BLACK SOCIETY
Presenter- I will be presenting doing the main voice overs and also introducing places of importances
cutaways are being shown it will mostly be me doing the voice-over not being visually seen on camera.
Voxpops- I will be doing them in an urban surrounding like Brixton other places on the street asking young
black people about how music effects them also if the person desires to be blocked out I will take that into
consideration before and when editing.
Interview- I will be interviewing my uncle who is a music producer who produces for niche artist and also
personally has connections with artists like yungen chipmunk and others. Also ill film these questions in his
recording studio so the background has a link also I might show cutaways of him working.
Music- in this video I will be using hip hop and trap tracks and instrumentals to help communicate a
youthfully theme and appeal to the target audience ( drake, meek mill, yungen, kendrick lamar)
Sound- I wouldn't want that much background sound only fading in and out the music tracks
Cutaway footage- I will be filming cutaways of urban areas and well known concert spots like the 02 in
Brixton ect
Editing/graphics- I will use basic transitions and also I will use astons and titles to show who's speaking
and what district they come from.
Cinematography- in terms of the mise en scene I will be doing close ups in the interviews to show/
emphasise moments of importance and meaning when talking to artists.
15. IDEA 2: HOW DOES THE MUSIC THAT BLACK
CULTURE LISTEN TO EFFECT THE BLACK
SOCIETY
Mode of address
I would want to be the presenter of my video and I would want to use only my voice
over to be able to use more cutaway footage and images of celebs music artists
and urban surroundings. However the main language that will be used will be
informal because of the people featured in my voxs pops I will be using the also
using artist that I know to give interviews and there idiolect is not formal but rather
informal. Thus relating to the primary target audience.
Style
In terms of style people in my video wont be shot wearing smart clothes because they'll
all be young people probably congregating on the road. ill use these type of people
in urban surroundings to share there opinions about the link between urban genres
of music and the black community. Also in this video their will be a lot of archive
footage because it will be an observational documentary to establish links between
music and behaviour patterns.

17. For Primary research I conducted a focus group on how may urban styles of music can impact the black community
and here are my notes from the focus group with 5 people.
Do you think that the music young black people listen to can effect them
- Behaviour
Yes because it cause them to “act rowdy and antisocial”, threatening to the public and society . Others said it
impacts them to achieve and is quite motivational to make it out of street and gang-life depending on who you listen
to.
- Clothing trends
Definitely people like drake started wearing pink and other people thought it was creative and copied that style , in
terms of hair cuts the man bun is a really popular style because of black entertainers like Quincy and Chris brown. I
said I like Bryson tiller hat collections also his style.
- language
It can make people have bad language because half of the time you don't understand what they are saying and
when you do it is not in clear English its in slang enforcing a bad example for the black community making us look
stupid. everyone else agreed. How ever they do think it is fun and exiting to listen to and because of the musicality
behind those genres such as hip hop house trap and others they sill enjoy listening to that sort of music.
Do you think a documentary on this would be interesting to the desired audience of young people?
They said yes because it will be interesting to gain a more vast opinion especially from those people who listen to
those genres and have a different reaction to them.
IDEA 2 : HOW DOES THE MUSIC THAT BLACK CULTURE LISTEN TO
EFFECT THE BLACK SOCIETY
Observations
I've observed that even in the urban community of Brixton where I live I see large groups of young
people that are of different ethnicity within the black community all singing well known hip hop trap
songs together. While I find it funny other the general public might find it offensive or threatening.
18. For Secondary research I watch a video called “ life how we live in” an in this video even though it
talks about the struggles for young ethnic groups of people in the urban community it still touches
on a theme that came up in my primary research of young people finding there music a way to
make a better life and living for themselves . Thus supporting the fact that urban styles of music can
have a positive effect on the black community. the small documentary communicated this by
showing scenes of them making music videos dancing to music that fit the urban genres like trap,
hip hop and rib.

Some similarities in opinions were
found when I conducted my secondary
research to when I conducted my
primary research and that was opinions
like “Young adults between the ages of
16 and 30 are the most likely age group
to consume rap/hip-hop music, and in
turn, may become desensitized to the
derogatory lyrics condoning relationship
violence and sexual aggression”.
19. IDEA 2: HOW DOES THE MUSIC THAT BLACK

theme is to show how music can impact
someone from the way how they conduct
themselves.

21. IDEA 3: THE INFLUENCES OF ART IN LONDON
My title for this documentary could be called “ Is London a
canvas” . Under this theme I would like to explore the
different art forms found around London possibly
integrating architecture and how landmarks such as
schools collages and skyscrapers are viewed as artistic
and can be inspiring for art idea. I would use people who
study art and interview them for there opinions, also art
teachers for the professional opinion on London being a
piece of art .
22. IDEA 3: THE INFLUENCES OF ART IN
LONDON
My primary target audience will be art specialists and young
people who look at the architecture structure of iconic places
for artist research , also people that are interested in graffiti
and its evolving presence /influence in society these type of
people will fall into the secondary target audience along with
people that are a bit older but still have a artistic mindset.
23. IDEA 3: THE INFLUENCES OF ART IN
LONDON
Presenter- I will be presenting doing the main voice overs and also introducing places of importance in
London also I will be included in the beginning shots as the presenter I would be dressed smart casually.
Voxpops- I will be doing them in an artistic space outside place like musemes or iconic buildings in London
Also I will be asking artistic people so they can give me a artistic view on art as well as normal passers by to
have a contrast of opinions.
Interview- I would want to interview an art teacher on there views because they would have set projects that
involve collecting images of iconic buildings and there opinions would be valuable to my documentary I could
film these interviewers in a classroom setting
Music- in this documentary I would want to use music choices that evoke feelings that match the emotion or
time period of a piece of art for example I would use classical music for traditional art pieces gallery's or
buildings.
Sound- I would want the sound from travelling underground or overground or from the buses to be panned in
and out to show the journey to and from places.
Cutaway footage- I will be filming urban societies where graffiti is welcomed or unwanted also iconic
buildings I will take a shot of the skyline to show when I start and finish my documentary might speed it up
while talking over the clip with my voice-overs
Editing/graphics- I will use basic transitions and also I will use astons also titles to show who's speaking.
Cinematography- in terms of the mise en scene I will be doing close ups in the interviews to show/
emphasise moments of importance and meaning also I will be using panning shots or establishing shots to
show the skyline over Vauxhall where the bridge is also the London eye and other surrounding skyscrapers
from a high council flats.
24. IDEA 3: THE INFLUENCES OF ART IN
LONDON
Mode of address
the presenter of my video would be me because I am a art student so I know special art terminology
and key words that would appeal to the desired target audience. I would want to use only my
voice over the cutaway footage (landscapes, art work and urban surroundings). However the
main language that will be used throughout my documentary will be formal-language because
people that will be featured in my voxs pops and interviews will be people that know how to
critically analyse art
Style
In terms of style people in my video wont be shot wearing smart clothes because they'll all be young
people creative people however they may be some people who dress smart casual. Ill use these
type of people in urban surroundings to share there opinions about the how they think different
movements of art influences London. This documentary will be therefore observational because
I will be using a lot of cutaway footage of influential landscapes, landmarks and art movements
in London
25. IDEA 3: THE INFLUENCES OF ART IN
LONDON
I feel like the purpose behind me making this documentary is to
show my artistic interest and because I do take an art a level
course currently, I would like to show how I as well as other
people think London is changing and becoming consumed with
art from an architectural and street art point of view.

27. For Primary research I conducted a focus group on the influence of art in the city of London what I notice came up is
a lot of places I could film because the individuals in my focus group gave me places to film.
My first question was do you think London is like a canvas for artist to express themselves?
One individual said yes because everywhere you turn you see an interesting building that was constructed to be a
land mark or a well known spots to draw attention. another person explained how graffiti has made its mark in more
urban areas of society and is now praised by the surrounding councils as artists and not really a criminal offence.
I asked what places are good for filming cutaways and showing of this point in a creative way?
-Big Ben
-Sky scrapers in London the shard ect
-I said my old school was designed by zaha hadid and it was inspired by our logo
-Bristol for the growing graffiti art from artist like Banksy
-Also places underground in east London and also parts of the south like Brixton
Observations
IDEA 3 : THE INFLUENCES OF ART IN LONDON
28. For secondary research I found some articles online that talked about the artist intent behind the
construction of the buildings that are iconic in London. also I looked at some well known spots
where graffiti art is being displayed. Also in my area there is graffiti art displayed and in the
community.
IDEA 3 : THE INFLUENCES OF ART IN LONDON

Author :Hannah al-Othman
Date:
Summary:A branch of
McDonald's fast food restaurant
in Brixton has come under great
criticism after its walls were
adorned with fake graffiti.
Impact: how this influenced my
idea is that it is an opposite
opinion to the great movement
of graffiti art that is shaping
urban societies in London

30. IDEA 4: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON
YOUNG PEOPLE
The title of this documentary would be called filtered reality. I
will use this title because I want it to reflect the themes of
people making themselves look the best way on social
media sites such as instagram, snap chat and other
sites/apps to attract attention. I will also be contrasting
this with reality for example social media memes such as
the Gordon Ramsey and the kardashian filter comparison.
I will be interviewing young people about why they feel
the need to present themselves on social media as
something they are not and how it effects them in
everyday life .
31. IDEA 4: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL
MEDIA ON YOUNG PEOPLE
- My primary target audience will be young people in the age
bracket of 16+ to 25 because of the archive footage that will
be shown of me and a group of friends being silly adding
videos to our snap and instagram accounts targeted at young
people.
- the language used in this documentaries apart from when I
am interviewing specialist in the field of sociology and
psychology will be slang.
- My secondary target audience will be probably professional
researchers of behaviour and who would find this
documentary a way of understanding the mindset of young
people for studies and statistics
32. IDEA 4: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL
MEDIA ON YOUNG PEOPLE
Presenter- I will be presenting doing the main voice over's and also introducing people over the cutaways
when going to interviews.
Voxpops- my vex pops will be of young people who post a lot on social media . These voxs pops will
probably be in urban surroundings /community e.g. on the road, in estates .
Interview- I will be interviewing people who specialise in the field of Psychology these interviews will
probably happen in there office somewhere that is formal. also I might chooses to interview someone who is
a youth with active presence on social media sites like instagram and snap chat about there opinions.
Music- in this video I will be using pop hip hop and trap instrumentals to reflect apps such as musical.
People use musical to post little clips of videos onto there online accounts
Sound- I would want the sound from people passing by young people laughing and talking to be in the back
ground possibly faded in before cutting towards a shot. Theses sounds will be picked up in my archive
footage.
Cutaway footage- I will be filming cutaways of people posting pictures on social media sites also I might
blur there faces out for confidential reasons. also surrounding areas or events I go to where we as a group
of friends post a lot of pictures.
Editing/graphics- I will use basic transitions and also I will use Astons to reflect the filters used in on social
media sites I may use overlays and filters on premier as well.
Cinematography- in terms of the mise en scene I will be doing close ups in the interviews to show/
emphasise moments of importance and meaning. further more I could do close ups of different features
such as eyes mouth hands as there talking to help emphasise a certain emotion. Also I will be using
panning shots or establishing shots to show the area that I am filming in.
33. IDEA 4: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL
MEDIA ON YOUNG PEOPLE
Mode of address
In this video I will speak more formally because I don't intend to be shown as the
presenter but rather just do a voice over introducing different sections and people .
I would want it to be in this way to bring about preservational analytical style to my
documentary as I asses the behaviours of young people. Also the language used
might be a little informal because my group of friends and other archive footage
that will be shown will be us speaking informaly also I may show texts in what are
status say when we post some of the status might involve slang.
Style
Because my video will involve observing the behaviour patterns of young people and
posting on social media I will have a lot of archive footage I would want it to be my
own personal experience looking in on how we post pictures almost in a vain
manor with are friends and how that can make us look to the public on the road.
Therefore my video will involve a lot of archive footage.
34. IDEA 4: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL
MEDIA ON YOUNG PEOPLE
I use a lot of social media accounts therefore I would like to show
how I think it can take over your life and how it effects are
behaviours and daily routines. furthermore how it can effect
our confidence and self esteem in a positive or negative way.

36. IDEA 4: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL
MEDIA ON YOUNG PEOPLE
Primary research I conducted a survey/questionnaire on how much people think that social media impacted
them these were the questions and these were the responses I received from 15 people
Do you use any sort of social media
Yes 15 no 14
How often do you use social media sites/apps

Do you think social media effects ones behaviour in any way
Yes11 maybe 2 no 2
If so is it a positive effect or a negative effect
Positive 7 negative 8
Do you think a documentary on how young people are influence by social media would be interesting or
insightful.
37. IDEA 4: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL
MEDIA ON YOUNG PEOPLE
I conducted secondary research on an article talking about the effects of social media on the
youth by nick mcgillivray. The date it was pulblished/updated was October 12, 2015.This article
shed some interesting light on the pros and cons of social media and its effect on young people
today how it impacts there behaviour and conduct in society. This impacted my idea because the
article stated some statistics that I found useful to my idea process for a potential documentary
like
“For every 93 minutes over the average 106 minutes spent on Facebook daily, college students’
grades dropped .12 points” and also how it effects them form going into higher education
“Possible negative effects on college admission: 35% of admissions officers scan prospective
students' social media and report discovering information that affects their admissions decision.”
