Photographing miniatures requires getting the right exposure, sharp focus across the entire miniature, and neutral, soft lighting to accurately represent the miniature without any artistic interpretation. The key aspects of getting proper exposure are understanding aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and how they work together based on the camera's light meter. Soft, diffuse lighting is best to avoid shadows and highlights not intended by the miniature's painter.
2. FUN FACTI started to learn photography to make great
pictures of my miniatures. Then I became a
better photographer than a miniatures painter.
And I’m finally a professional photographer…

5. Photographing miniatures is not an art. Painting the miniature is
the art. The photographs should show the miniature the most
« honest » and real as possible without any interpretation.
THE ART OF
NEUTRALITY
6. What makes a miniatures
photograph great?
- Right exposure
- Sharp deep of field
- Global, neutral & soft light
- A great miniature :-)
39. Light… we experience it everyday.
When there is any light there is nothing. We observe it since
we are kids but it’s still so hard to understand and master.
59. RAW or JPEG?
RAW JPEG
- flat but neutral
- more flexible
- more contrasty and good
looking straight from camera
- less flexible in photo
manipulations
