Presentación exclusiva para la organización UxTIC que busca compartir experiencias de investigación en tecnología de las universidad de Colombia. Esta presentación hacemos una referencia del concepto de la singularidad tecnológica (Definida como “El periodo donde el avance de la tecnología va a cambiar tan rápido, y su impacto será tan profundo que la vida humana será irreversiblemente transformada”), concebido por el matemático Jhon Von Neumann y revitalizado por Ray Kurzweil en su libro “La singularidad esta cerca”. Además hacemos un recorrido por el conjunto de tecnologías a las cuales se les aplica la ley de los retornos acelerados, afirmando que el crecimiento de ciertas tecnologías es de tipo exponencial y no lineal. Y finalmente hacemos un planteamiento de las posibilidades para los bogotanos para aprovechar la singularidad y prepararse para la era en que las computadoras superen la capacidad cognitiva del ser humano.

He warned us of the threats posed by advanced technologies, and suggested we should slow down their advancement. Many today agree with Joy. The evolution of our knowledge about nature and the evolution of nature itself have come to a historic crossroads, others claim. It took billions of years for nature to produce our universe, a planet called Earth and a living species able to ask questions and create answers. It took humans just decades to develop a technology to bring our collective knowledge back to life deep within the brains of super computers and show it on the screens of Ipads and smart phones. With digital technology, an astonishing transformation is taking place right in front of our eyes. Since the Big Bang, nature has been the sole creator of the future. Until humans came along and unraveled nature’s tricks, enough so to take away its monopoly, and bring us to the most important crossroads in the history of our universe.

How do we communicate with trillions of machines? We don’t. It is up to them to find ways to aggregate the information they collect and present it in ways that humans can use. It is the duty of the localization industry to lead the development of guidelines for these interfaces that implement best practices for clarity, cross-cultural understanding, accessibility and usefulness worldwide. In this session we will present examples of how this can be achieved while preserving and enhancing the value of the localization industry and its participants. Talk delivered at Localization World on April 15, 2015 in Shanghai, China.
