  2. 2. Introduction • David W. Deeds, currently Technology Specialist for American International School of Egypt in Cairo • Almost 20 years in education, K to college, wide variety of edtech roles • Briefly, my COVID saga: Teacher again!
  3. 3. Crossroads • Honestly? Most educators just want a return to “business as usual.” • Even if COVID 19 vanished tomorrow, I’m not sure this is desirable/possible. • Benefits of online teaching/learning now obvious (despite issues/denial).
  4. 4. Crossroads • Mechanics first, not methodologies: The Digital Divide -- Internet access, hard/software, etc.
  5. 5. Tangibles • Some type of Learning Management System (LMS) will be an integral component of teaching/learning.
  6. 6. Tangibles • Some students won’t/can’t go back to F2F, at least not completely. Online is better for various reasons.
  7. 7. Intangibles • Some say edtech can cover every aspect except the human connection, but this isn’t necessarily true…
  8. 8. Intangibles • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the most important factor that will be facilitated via educational technology.
  9. 9. Virtual Future • I’ve been promoting virtual worlds for 14 years, now people finally get it! ;)
