This document provides information about new ArcGIS Image Server and ArcSDE - MS SQL Geodatabase capabilities at H-GAC. It summarizes available aerial imagery and map services, as well as details about the CE Geodatabase, Transportation Geodatabase, and Global Geodatabase. H-GAC users have read-only access to commonly used feature classes in the Global Geodatabase. The document also notes that H-GAC has begun limited testing of ArcGIS 9.3 and plans to upgrade users by the end of the year.
1. New ArcSDE – MS SQL GeodatabasesandArcGIS Image Server June 2008 Data Services
2. ArcGIS Image Server Allows image files to be viewed in mosaic directly from the file folders. Utilizes service overviews (similar to pyramids) to allow for fast image navigation and processing. Available to all ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop clients at H-GAC. Option to expand availability to ArcGIS Explorer clients in the future.
18. To be added as a user, see department administrator (Eric Boulet/Frank Pagliei)Global Geodatabase ~250 commonly used, final draft feature classes. Read access setup for all H-GAC GIS users. To submit data, fill out form on Support page. Connection instructions also on Support page. Also used as workspace for STAR*Map editing.
19. Global Geodatabase Layer file Access Organized by thematic category. Every SDE feature class is represented, as well as image services. Many layers are given a default symbology, based on common usage, such as demographic data. Metadata search can be performed on entire directory. GIS users are automatically mapped to folders on N: drive.
22. ArcGIS 9.3 H-GAC has already been given the opportunity to begin limited testing on 9.3 products through the candidate release program. ESRI usually releases new versions around the time of International User Conference, in August. Data Services is planning on upgrading H-GAC users by the end of the year.
As most of you know, new SQL SDE databases are now up and running, as well as ArcGIS Image Server, which was rolled out in late May. We wanted to take this opportunity to demo both of these new products, and answer any questions that you may have about them.
Just click through pictures – don’t have to state each year/service.
Open ArcMap.Show how to bring in the Add Image Service button.Show how to view properties before adding image service.Add 2006 Aerial Imagery and show.Add Collared Topographic Maps and show how closest to center mosaicking works.
After collaborating with other departments, we came up with a 3 database setup – and I really want to thank CE and Transportation for all of their help on this project.
If you have not been automatically mapped to N:, please let me know and I’ll walk you through making a manual connection.
Open ArcCatalog.Show adding Database Connection.Show layer folders. Do a metadata search on layer folders – use TCEQ.
There is a lot of information shown here, but the main idea is to show how the various hardware is utilized and structured.
Please note one correction on the handouts. The path to the Global database layers has been changed from Z: to N:.
