 This is Jonas. In the book, The Giver, Jonas
and many of his friends receive special
training when they are the age of twelve.
 Jonas is selected to be a Receiver of
Memory. In his training The Giver gives to
Jonas memories of the past about pain joy
and colors that Jonas had never seen
    before.
 In the memories Jonas learns that the world
he lives in now was not always like that.
 In his training he learned so much about
what there was and what is coming.
 He even found it harder to understand his
friends and the actions made by the elders
of the community. He also wanted to share
the memories he received with the entire
    community.
 In the text it states that Asher and Fiona were
playing a game that made Jonas recall on a
memory of war. He felt uncomfortable and
he told them not to play it again.
 To overcome this problem Jonas
  did an outstanding thing.
 In the text Jonas found out that his
  father was the one releasing
  children.
 He was worried about Gabriel and
  he couldn’t share the memories
  with the community like he
wanted to so he took Gabriel and
they left the community to go to
  “Elsewhere”.
 I think it took Jonas a lot of
courage to leave his family and
friends in the community. He still
  overcame his feelings and
  abandoned his community taking
all of the memories with him.
 Adam is a boy who likes to
run, because of this he is given
    the nickname Zebra.
 His nickname compares him to
    a zebra running through the
    African plains.
 One day his love and passion
was taken away from him as
he ran into a moving car.
 After the incident he was taken
to the hospital and he found
out that he had broken his
    arm.
 In the text it states he was
running down a hill when he
was about to turn a corner an
he was hit by a car.
 Adam meets a man named
    John Wilson.
 He helped Adam deal with his
    problem.
 John was a veteran of the
Vietnam War and that is how
    he lost his arm.
 John goes to Adam’s school
and applies to be an art
    teacher.
 In the text John asks Adam if
he is interested in the summer
art class and Adam takes it
    and learns to accept
 What happened to him and
to not take it as his fault.
 John Wilson played a big part
    in Adams change of nature.
 Lance Armstrong is an
    actual person who wrote a
    book called It’s Not About
    the Bike.
 Lance used to have
cancer but he was also a
    famous cycler.
 His disease was very
    aggressive and it almost
    pushed him off the edge
    but he kept fighting.
 In the text it states that his
    doctors and nurses were
very kind to him and that
    they were like angels sent
    from above to help him.
 Lance Armstrong held tight
  and managed to survive
cancer with a little bit of
  help from his doctors.
 In his hospital he probably
  thought about his cycling
days ahead of him that he
could not afford to give up.
 In the text it states that he
  would train extremely hard
  for these competitions.
 I guess that Lance didn’t
want his hard work to go to
waste so he fought on to
  overcome the disease and
  he did.
 These three people have
  struggled in some point
  of their life.
 They all had difficult
  problems to face.
 Each and every one of
  them could have given
  up but they didn’t. They
  kept going in spite of
  problems they face
  along the way.
 These three people
  actually mirror the
  concept of
  perseverance.
